Xbox 360 Will Have 512Mb Memory

The Xenon retail console will include 512 MB of UMA system memory. This is eight times the amount of memory that was available in the Xbox. The Xenon system software will still reserve six percent (32 MB) of total memory for system components, such as the visible features of the Xenon HUD, as well as the non-visible background system tasks.

Source: -_-; Team Xecuter

Good. Anything less than 512MB would be uncivilized!

But will launch titles be able to take advantage of the extra ram or are all those games based on the early 256MB spec?

Who's TeamExecuter? They work on mods, or..? And if they do, shouldn't it be a little worrying for MS that they have access to kits?

This is excellent news if true, of course.

Why is a mod chip team any kind of reputable source for information? They're probably just parroting back rumors and heresay.

What's that supposed to mean?

Yep, they do mod chips and the like.

I know a console is not like a PC, but 512MB should be great... but since my PC has 1024MB, I want 2GIG in my console now... I am a memory whore!

512 would be awesome for the simple fact that being the first out of the gate would "force" nintendo and sony to consider beefing up the ram in their systems as well.

True that. I really hope this is for real.

they could kill 2 birds with one stone with an HD Add-on that enable BC compatibility...

which would totally be lame, and i really have a feeling they will do this.

MS needs to take some sort of launch bump for the good of gamers everywhere. Bleed for us at launch to give us better hardware!

They do refer to some docs though.

Man, it would take probably 5 minutes to fill that much memory from the 12x DVD ROM :P

If this source knows so much, why are they still calling it xenon? :)

Because no OFFICIAL name has been released thus they're calling it by it's codename/project name.

well, it all depends on the team, i mean, this isn't some modchip only team that depends on others for bioses, this is team xecuter, their reputation preceeds them...

So how is this more official then the other things we see around the web regarding Xbox 2? Until MS release official specs, it's still just a website, a rather unknown one at that, posting info that may or may not be true.

Don't get me wrong, I want this to be true too, but I'm still taking it with a grain of salt until official specs are released.

It's going to take a bit more than a hard drive to make 360 backwards compatible with the XBox.

256 MB for Cell-CPU + 256 MB for Nvidia-GPU

I hope '__'
They would be stupid not to do it, that's for sure. I want to say *competition is teh good!* but I want to see this officially confirmed first, and then see Sony at least follow the suit!

I'm guessing that if the "add on" will make it BC, then there will be more than just an HD inside of it.

or..64MB for Cell, 448 for the GPU? :p ;)

According to a guy on B3D MS may even put more RAM into the system depending on whether it's needed after Sony's PS3 announcement..though I've not idea how credible he is, so take that with a grain of salt for now :) A spec war sure would be nice, though - all the systems should subsequently benefit.

hell yes! even more is always better but, 256 was complete crap. 512 should be adequae enough for the CPU and GPU to share

What would happen if Xenon has 512MB of RAM while PS3 and/or Rev have less even though they'll be released afterwards?

512 is adequate, but I'm far more worried about the DVD drive spec (I heard MS is only using 7GB DVDs next gen, a step DOWN from the 9.4GB DVDs) and the PPU unit (Physics will become just as important as Graphics as far as presentation goes, and I want to see some clothes and hair flapping in that godforsaken breeze).
