Xbox DVD Firmware hacked

Every hear of a 50 disc CD player? Ever hear of an iPod? Maybe no one has thrown a disc changer ot iPod in your dumper yet.

Having every game avaliable at the push of a button is something every console maker should invest in.
There is no question about the convenience of playing games off the hard drive. Whevenever I turn on the 360, I ususally just play an arcade game because I am too lazy to enter a disk (oh yeah, and the fact that the games out now suck). But the question is, who in their right mind would keep the disk that they never have to use it again. Additionally, there is a $30 credit to sell the disk. I don't believe anyone would keep it and furthermore, I don't believe anyone buys a game and copies it to their hard drive. What 99% of people do is rent a game, copy it and then return it. This all goes back to the question of how many people who play games and have a modded Xbox pirate them. 99% is my guess.

Keeping the hard copy of the game allows you to use that copy on any system; it is yours for life. What if you want to play that game at a friends house? Are you going to mod thier console and bring your hdd to their house?

Unless the modders have figured out how to speed up the Xbox CPU, it sucks. It can barely even play a lot of DIVX/Xvid in real time because the CPU is too damn slow to decode the video.
I have no trouble watching downloaded Divx/Xvid videos on XBMC. Plays smooth, audio syncs up perfect, and no frames get dropped. Have you even used it recently?

recently?

this guy is just making shit up, even two year old builds don't choke on anything except HD (720p+) content...

i mean look at his comment on the triggers being too sensitive...

maybe they;re sensitive if by "place my controller down" he means "toss my controller down a flight of stairs"

I've only encountered this kind of trouble when I asked it to play some 720p stuff. All the rest , just fine.

:lol What a load of bullshit

Speaking of XBMC, I just turned the xbox into a PVR. There is a python script that acts as a TV guide. You set programs to 'record', which sends a batch file to your PC and turns your cature card on. Once the program starts recording you can stream it back to the xbox. Pretty neat.

My pc with the capture card and my xbox are very far apart, so the script is a convenience for me.

Well I have not tried any build in the last 6 months but bassed on a comment above, I shouldn't have had these problems on a build that old. Could it be related to my bios? I do have a very old bios in the system (like 18 months old, Executer 2.1 I think).

Forget about fast fowarding it or rewinding because the player will just choke and freeze up on you. When it finally comes to, you will not be anywhere near where you wanted to be. And have they fixed the damn trigger buttons yet? Are they still so sensitive that when I put the controller down, it will register as a press and start fast fowarding? I really gave up on XBMC a long time ago. My PC and my nice 20" LCD is better for watching video on anyway.

And to clarify becaise I was misunderstood by so many, XBMC does not suck but rather the platform it is running on does. The CPU in the Xbox is just too slow to make XBMC an enjoyable media center. But if they have not fixed the sensitivity on the triggers, then that is certainly one aspect of XBMC that does suck and should have been fixed years ago.

Modders HAVE figured out how to OC the Xbox. Makes it worthless for games, but if you REALLY want to watch HD content on the Xbox you can do it.

Sounds like you were streaming files over a shitty network connection. I've only seen FF/RW less than perfect when it's streaming. XBMC has NEVER EVER faltered once on any SD video I've thrown at it, and it plays many HD and near-HD movies fine. And I've been using it for two years.

Just a week ago (I this thread) I was saying XBMC sucked. I have had a modded Xbox for 2 years already and I have always maintained this position).

You know what the problem was? That I kept installing crap CVS compiles that were not customized at all. Boy, does it suck out of the box. I was correct in saying that. Today I obtained a GasGiver custom XBMC and installed it. The difference is bigger than night and day. This is truely great.

Incidently, I have tried MCE 2005 since then and not surprising, it does not work very well at all. Limited file format support , streaming lags way too much and the searching functions are terrible. Maybe if I had a TV card that supported it it would serve some purpose above and beyond XBMC but I don't. This build of XBMC is awsome. I am sorry that I ever doubted anyone who ever said XBMC is bad ass. Can't believe how wrong I was for so so long.
