Great to see. They still have a way to go, but smart of them to get it out there to hammer out the rough edges in the build up to Magnus.

So if I don't have an Xbox library why would I get a Magnus Xbox if I can get the full screen experience on any PC?

it is a mode they are adding to Windows that reduces the memory footprint and helps to improve game performance. MS introduced this for handhelds with Xbox Rog Ally and are now bringing it to all PCs.
Thx. I knew about the ROG Xbox Ally X thing OS.
I thought this was something new.

For those of you with experience with this feature: can you enable your system to boot straight into this? I would love to be able to turn on the PC and pick up the controller. I have a wireless keyboard with trackpad on my living room TV that I could use when needed - right now I have to use that every time (I messed with Playnite but found it a bit underwhelming).

Yes, you can boot right into this if you want

Why is it only on handhelds? That's just marketing right, anyone can enable this probably easily?

edit: Oh I see.... they are waiting to let you enable it on normal PCs..., how bizarre.

Beta testers I guess.

You wouldn't need Magnus unless you were buying a new PC anyhow and it fits your budget then it might be worth a look
It just seems like as time goes on, there's less and less unique selling points to the device. It seems it eventually just boil down to back compat if Sarah is to be believed.

Time will tell I suppose.

Coolio, I know I could have already tried it through means on my Ally X, but was holding off for the official release. Interested to see how it works, though I rarely am booted into Windows on the thing.

Thanks for the answers. I have no trust in Microsoft competency to make anything on pc work well so yeah

Time will tell I guess

Great stuff!
But I doubt it'll outperform Playnite on anything it tries to do. There is so much to improve going by the insider beta.

Being competitively priced vs other Prebuilts in that price range same as Steam Machine.

Frees up more of the CPU it seems as well. What's your takeaway from this:

Why did Cyberpunk receive such an uplift but not much on the other games tested

A nearly 10fps improvement just from OS level tweaks is nothing to sneeze at.

Maybe it makes living room play more viable with a controller if you're dead set on using the Xbox App?

Im getting a 2tb nvme to add my system, guess I can set up for it to boot this, if it sucks ill switch to Linux

Watch the video though. The improvement in most games are not as extreme as the screenshot. Still an improvement in most cases, but not this much

Why is it improving this much though? Is it because Cyberpunk is CPU heavy? I would think that kind of gain should have applied on Black Myth as well.

No idea. Just stating what is shown in the video. I imagine we will get a bunch more benchmarks when this is released to Windows Insiders.

Oh for sure it is content dependent. I just didn't even expect that type of performance increase in any situation.

Yeah.....that Cyberpunk 2077 difference is impressive no doubt about it

In the video he says the only difference he noted was the RAM usage. I guess there's some other under the hood tweaks going on there.

Will be interesting to see how it effects the broad swath of desktop testing.

Wish it would retrofit for Win 10 as well :(

I imagine it kills some processes which are using that RAM. Probably would have to take an inventory of task manager before and after to really see what is happening.

The encouraging thing to me is that this is their first go at it so I'm hoping they are able to move towards a debloated mode for gaming in Windows.
