Xbox Half-life 2 Runs Improved on 360?

It seems there is light at the end of the tunnel for those of you who thought Valve were making a mistake releasing Half Life 2 for the Xbox instead of the 360.

It seems that not only will Half Life 2 (released on the 18th November) be fully compatible with the Xbox 360, but also that the game has upgraded textures and features built in that will only become available when the game is played on an Xbox 360, in a similar manner to Halo 2.

This is an uncomfirmed report, but it would make a lot of sense for Valve to do this as it would encourage early 360 adopters to buy their game even though it was primarily intended for mere Xbox owners.

Dunno if this is valid in any way shape or form. Less likely after seeing the Halo shots.

Just because Bungie doesn't redraw all their existing textures doesn't mean that Valve can't use their original PC textures :D

Makes sense, they already have all the high res art assets made for the PC version so it wouldn't take much to include them on the DVD.

Yep, exactly. Even though i've already played Half-File 2 on the PC, its going to be cool that the game can be played in all its HIGH visual settings with ease on the 360.

I don't see why they would bother with something like this, unless they actually have two completely different versions of the game on the DVD.

I vote fanboy wishful fantasy.

Although, what hes saying about Half-Life 2 hes also saying Halo2 does. Seeing what actually does happen with Halo2 when played on the 360, hes wrong on that front.

Well my assessment has nothing to do with the original poster's dumb comment about Halo 2 BC.

I'm just saying that if it's just the high res textures, it would kinda look stupid with the lower poly models and modified levels of XBox iteration. Come to think of it, I don't think the PC version textures would fit necessarily on the XBox models and levels. And if they had to modify the PC textures to work with the XBox models, then that already way too much work than including two completely different versions of the game: one for XBox and one for the X360.

And I don't even know if the XBox DVD has enough space to include both versions.....

I haven't played the HL2 Xbox version myself but I see were your coming from and I agree. It seems like alot of people think the BC of the 360 will be doing alot will be very dissapointed. Hell, i'm contempt just with BC compatible games having AA applied to them.

That would be really cool if true but I have my doubts (framerate boost too please!). I'm still getting the Xbox version to play on Xbox of course.

It's funny how console only gamers think about this stuff.

Both versions? Have you never played a PC game? They scale. They have low res content already there for people with assarific PC's and the high res stuff for high end PC's and it easily fit on a single DVD.

i would be happy if the version of the game that I have seen, which looks great btw, includes a 720p mode and full screen AA.

That would be awesome enough, and is probably exactly what this report is referring to.

You know, My gaming PC with P4 3Ghz, 1GB of PC3200 and X800Pro is gonna be really upset if it finds out that I was really a console only gamer..... ;)

I really don't think HL2 scales down to PCs with 64MB of system and video RAM. ;)

I also don't remember HL2's levels scaling down because of the hardware. XBox versions levels are scaled down version of the PC version. Again, it's only got 64MB of RAM.
