Xbox inviting Xbox Members to test out the March Update (don't beg for invites)

We used to be able to sign up for these things, dammit.
It didn't really during the Xbox 360 updates, except for parties occasionally.
I believe the party system is the main thing getting an overhaul in this update so I would imagine that it will be affected.

It drives me crazy hearing Microsoft refer themselves as "Xbox" like it's a company. "We here at Xbox"....

It's almost as bad Comcast using "Xfinity" in an attempt to hide who is behind the service.

As has been the case in some Xbox 360 updates, users in the beta will be sequestered from the rest of the population. As the new features are focused on parties and friends, those in the test program won’t be able to receive party invites, use party chat, party matchmaking, and even party visibility.

Its missing "receive party invites/go on chat etc with people not in the beta" I assume, but its only for 2 weeks or so

Basically following the black screen of doom screw up they've realised they need more testers...

I had no idea how bad the party system was until the beta for Titanfall.
We had the hardest time partying up and all that jazz.

And now I am getting a weird notification.

"Xbox sign in me"
"Sign in using a controller"
"Couldn't sign you in?

This never happens. I always sign in by voice.

WHY IS IT ASKING ME FOR PASSWORD.

Somehow it lost my account password and I had to re-login with it.

You could say it's almost like they're laying the groundwork for the Xbox brand to be spun off on its own.

The worst is when the headset doesn't work and the voice chat is coming through your speakers even though the headset is connected and you have to reconnect it like 10 times in the hope that one of those times will fix it.

Also having two XBOnes on the same local network seems to present issues when partying up with intermittent lack of voice chat or even party invites not being seen. This is on my Apple Airport Extreme network with both XBOnes having confirmed Open NAT types.

It's sort of a standard way for companies to address themselves in the industry, even by editorial sites.

Every company does it, Even Sony with Playstation. The only time a company doesn't do it is if the product piggybacks off the company name. Every other time, if you have a product name, or a specific name for your division, a company will tend to use that because it helps when serving the news to where it needs to go.

I've been in several beta tests for them lately (360 updates, projet spark, titanfall,...) but I don't think I'd be useful for this one, since I never use the party system. I suppose they'll select the testers among those that are playing online a lot...

beta tested in the future

Sony should do this to prevent another brick situation like that one time with the PS3

Same happened to me a few mins ago.

I'll have to skip in case I get invited. I use party too much to go without it for 2 weeks. Unless of course my friends also get invited.

I can't remember the last beta that I DIDNT participate in, but sadly the majority of they guys I played online with haven't joined next-gen yet, so not sure how much use I'd be in this one.

Honest question as I know your no hater: does it bother you when any company does this, or just Microsoft. This practice is an attempt to keep the focus on the brand and not the company but is hardly unique to Microsoft.

There was a kinect update on 360 I believe that made the early tester unable to join parties with people who didn't have the update. Maybe it a voice quality thing, I don't remember exactly.

Last gen it sorta sucked when certain friends wouldn't get into the beta because they'd be locked out of party. On the whole, I only really party with a couple people nowadays and it's rare to have the crazy friday night parties where randoms are jumping in and out (although Titanfall Beta weekend brought back A LOT of memories). I'd probably be down to do it assuming I knew the update would be ready for Titanfall.

The one time It happened was back during NXE when Microsoft was replacing the entire Audio Codec to make it run faster, more efficient and sound cleaner.

They upgraded the Xbox voice codec, caused an incompatibility with user not on the update.

Can you elaborate on this? Is this where the screen goes black but you can still hear audio? Because I had this happen and I nearly lost my mind. I don't know what caused it or what fixed it exactly but I just turned everything off at the wall for about 12 hours and it then worked again.

Is there a known quick-fix for this if it happens again?

I had the same problem, had to delete and redownload my account to fix it.

They've done this countless times with new dashboard updates. Yet somehow it's a bad thing now?

Its not a bad thing at all, never said it was.

I'm pleased they're back to getting users to test stuff, as the Black Screen of Annoyance is doing my head in.

MS said they are aware of this. I believe it's quite rare.
They said hold in the power button for 10 seconds and it should go away. Or power off for 10 seconds(unplug).

The next update should fix the issue

Yeah its a know issue, its plaguing a few of us. Screen goes black, audio continues. Quick fix is to hold the power button for 10-15 seconds.

Thanks, I'll try that if I see it again.

I tried XboxSupport on twitter but they were useless and I then spent about 30 minutes searching the internet but all I could find was a bunch of people saying my Panasonic plasma had blacklisted the device for some HDMI issue.

It's no stranger than say ESPN calling themselves ESPN instead of Disney

Xbox is the name of the group and they put out a number of Xbox-branded products. They've always used Xbox as their name, it was never "Microsoft Xbox"
