Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

More feedback on Judgement, quite far in now and some of the larger battles are making the game struggle, kind of expected but it's still playable.

Dirt 3 runs great (and looks just as good too) too bad about Gears 3 even in horde mode the game runs really bad

Color me impressed. I have been playing Just Cause 2 all day and tried Mass effect again.

I did have mass effect earlier when there was a loophole that allowed non-preview members to install and play BC games.

But these games at least are very playable.

I wish MS would atleast comment on something about Red Dead. I also wish a few people here on GAF wouldn't have hinted so hard that RDR was coming.

Has anyone tried Monday Night Combat?

Fired it up yesterday for 2 games but the framerate was constantly (!) under 20 frames or so. Will give it another try today, but I don't remember it this way. Was one of my favourite 360 games.

I've tried Mass Effect and the start of Fable 2.

Mass Effect runs a little shitty - does it improve later in the later in the game? I just got to the citadel.

Fable 2 feels pretty good so far, but I am only at the start.

MNC was the first game I tried, it runs well until you get a lot of stuff on the screen, blitz for example the first few waves are solid 60fps but once you start to get all the jackbots and gremlins running around everywhere the framerate drops into the 20's :(

Crossfire always has stuff going on so it drops even quicker.

Yeah I payed MNC Crossfire. I mean ~ 20 fps in a game like this is nearly unplayable and I played the s*** out of this mode on 360. This is how I remember it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oin7OkWJ65w

Played the exact same map yesterday.
If this is the result of the long awaited backwards comp, I would be extremely disappointed. Will give it another try today.

Months back when mass effect was first up for testing it did the same thing, in combat it would chunk around at 10-15 fps and become unplayable, now though the game runs 90% as well as it should after a few updates.

I honestly expect gears and other games like MNC will see an improvement at some point, right now MNC is pretty much unplayable outside of some casual blitz because of performance.

Anyone else tried RB: Vegas and have it run like shit? I know the 360 version already ran like shit so I tried it out, but it seems like whenever the 360 version would drop frames, the XB1 runs it in slow-mo.

I mean I was pretty hyped for BC. But as I'm reading more and more experiences, isn't this BC on 360 all over again?

Many promises, underwhelming selection, problems with many games?

Is there an effort to gather all experiences yet? I remember a list for all original Xbox games that were playabale on 360 and a summary of fps, bugs etc.

Really hope MS can fix the problems, some games at least seem to run very well. Problem is that after so many years I don't really trust their promises anymore.

Huh? Every game I have played runs great and that seems to be the consensus from most. And we are getting more games every month, man. This is just the start of it. They actually knocked it out of the park.

So far, every game I tired out seems to run really well. Tried out Gears of War 3, Perfect Dark, Mass Effect, Streets of Rage Trilogy, Golden Axe and Rainbow Six Vegas and didn't notice hardly any problems.

Agreed, I can put up with slight frame rate issues here and there, all in all BC is mind blowingly good!

All I want is RDR and USF4

Here are my experiences from testing out some games:

- Super Meat Boy: runs great, very slight slowdown on first boss, but barely noticable. harder levels finishable without issues
- Shadow Complex: Played for around an hour. Slight slowdown in some spots. Perfectly playable
- Doom 2: perfect
- Fallout 3: perfect
- Dirt 3: runs well, slight input lag (no previous experience with 360 version)
- Gears of War 3: runs ok, noticable input lag
- Rainbow Six: Vegas: bad slowdown with gameplay running in slow-mo as opposed to dropping frames

Note sure if it was noted yet or not but DOOM 3 BFG edition lets you install both DOOM 1 and 2. Guess I didn't need to spend the $5 on DOOM again after all - nice to have it there at a moment's notice though.

You guys think it's safe to start to hunt Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon? It does say in the OP that MS plans to make available all MS published titles..

Well right now multi disc games apparently are not possible, let's see how it will go once that works.

Tried gow 3 again last night. It really does feel like something is off when I'm playing. Must be the input lag. Also, the fps drop when the hammer of dawn goes off near you, or any other explosion, is really bad.

I'm sure this has been answered, but how do you download the DLC for Fallout 3? I'm not even sure if my saved game would be compatible with vanilla Fallout 3

If you own the DLC from the marketplace you can download it by going into games&apps, press start on fallout 3 and select manage, it should appear there.

If you own the GOTY disc just insert it and launch the disc, the xbox should be smart enough to see it and ask you if you want to install, For my Dirt 3 GOTY it took two tries before the xbox found the DLC licenses.

Perfect, thank you so much. That was much more painless to do than I expected, but I wouldn't have thought to go that route. It makes sense though sense that's how you manage DLC for XB1 games anyway

Remember though if you want to play a game with DLC installed from a disc you still need that disc in the console for license checks, bit of a shame.

Reposting from a couple pages ago:

So I apologize if it's already been answered earlier in the thread, but I own Rare Reply digitally: why do some of those 360 games show up for "Ready to Download" without the Rare Reply banner even though the Rare Replay versions re already installed? I never owned a 360, so it's not a case of my previously owned games showing up

Played Gears of War Judgement last night on the BOne. The game is s**t just like the first one, but it runs really good. I want my Orange Box :(

I played a bit of campaign last night and the performance was ok. Seemed pretty stable but when a lot of action happened there were very noticeable drops. Gotta say I am surprised by Judgement though, skipped it on 360 but am enjoying it so far.

More Rare Replay questions: If I buy Rare Replay digitally on my Xbox One, can I download and play the 360 titles on my 360?

follow-up: did they fix Perfect Dark and make it 1080p yet?

Yes to Perfect Dark HD being 1080p now but I'm unsure about getting the copies to play on a 360. The Rare Replay versions of the 360 games are different listings then the ones that were purchasable on the 360 - I don't think they would redeem both with Rare Replay.

Im not sure if I can keep playing Borderlands. Im getting dizzy whenever I have to run or do quick movements and i feel like Im always squinting to see stuff

It's weird that streets of rage 2 standalone doesn't work, but the version in the vintage collection does :/ -- hopefully it gets added later.

It is so good to go for a old School horde mode on GoW 3 with my friends. It's like bicycle, you never forget how to do it. Great functionality because most of my friends are casual gamers and are going to stay with their 360 for a while. Even if I don't play with them, I can still tchat with them. MS did a great job with BC ;)
