Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

I've only tried a couple of games--Dirt 3 and The Witcher 2--and both are basically unplayable due to a disgusting amount of input lag. I never played these games on Xbox 360, so is this just what they were like? Is it an emulation issue with these games specifically? Or is it a more widespread issue?

Oddly, it seems results vary from person to person. I wonder if hardware variations play a part.

Have you tried resetting your XB1 then playing? It has been reported that resetting (i.e. clears system cache) can make a real difference in performance in some games.

Huh, that's odd. Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a shot and report my results.

Witcher 2's movement was always a bit weird, even on 360. The little bit I tested on Xbox One feels pretty similar. Not sure about Dirt 3.

Nope, still checking regularly for it. This is the #1 game I've wanted for BC so I'm on pins and needles waiting for it to drop.

You guys think it will be within the next day or so?

It should be this week if they are shipping the codes for the DS3 pre-orders in time.

Speaking of Dark Souls, do we have any idea if they are releasing it to everyone at the same time, or it's just strictly for pre-orders? It'd be extremely lame if it's the latter, since it means the BC is ready and just being held back as a pre-order incentive.

Has there been a precedent like this yet regarding BC?

any time a game has come to BC it has been available to all. The only hold up might be for waiting to get your free code for Dark Souls.

You're sourcing the Daily Express.

I don't think that has happened yet with the Xbone BC. I would absolutely hate that. I own it on xbox live digitally and would be disgusted if it was only available to those preordering Dark Souls III.

Same here. I own the physical copy, so I'd be extremely pissed if it was only for pre-orders.

On another note, here's to hoping you can finally start a party and voice chat with friends you want to play the game with. If my memory isn't completely false, I remember DS1 on 360 not letting you do this for some reason. I can't tell you the amount of hours spent and fun I had playing DS2 with friends in a party on XB1, so I hope that experience can be replicated again with the original.

Yes! Same here. I didn't know that about DS1 though, that's unfortunate. I'm not sure how/if they would be able to address and issue like that. I'm sure they would. My main concern is that I just hope that it runs just as smoothly, if not better.

That's not how it works so you both can be happy :) Dark Souls for all.

I've been playing the gears of wars games. And damn, framerate is very unstable.
I hope microsoft can improve the emulation somehow.

they really should allow vsync to be turned off. I'm not sure if that's an X1 limitation or what

They should implement a frame limiter and set it at whatever the game is intended to run at. That way they can spread each 360 cpu load across multiple xb1 cores. Right now I believe they are mapping 1:1 for the cpu and since the xb1 cpu is weaker than than the 360(core wise) that's why it struggles at times.

So... with RE 4-5-6 being $20 each for Xbox One in the coming months... I guess BC goes out the window for those games...

I hope not. Also I bet they are just ports of the PC versions. If they expect me to pay for RE4 again it needs to be a full on remaster.

To be fair, they're likely based on the PC versions of all 3 games which are outright better than the BC versions. RE4 had missing effects and 30 fps, the other two games will also likely get a bump to 60 fps as well.

But yeah, there's a lot less incentive to make them BC when you're trying to sell new copies of the game

Yeah, besides I would find it real hard to buy a game again when I know that I can't play my already purchased version because they did not aprove of BC.

EvB found RE5 so it's possible they make them BC too

Really?? I wasn't sure if he had found any of the RE's. Good!

The new ones may be the better version, but just like it happened with the MCC, I would love to play the originals (even with the framerate/texture/lightning/effects hiccups here and there), more so If, like you said, I already own them.

Thanks, I didn't know that

I like this trend of releasing smaller XBLA titles at a quicker pace. Glad they stopped with the monthly updates; I just wish they'd put out a game I own!

Has anyone that pre-ordered Dark Souls 3 received their Dark Souls code or heard anything yet?

I figured we would have heard something by now, since it's at that 10 day mark if I'm not mistaken.

I'm in the same boat. They said we would be getting codes within 7-10 days. The 26th is their last day to delivery on that promise.

Of the the games release. Not pre-ordering

Looking at the store page I could see why people thought differently:
For a limited time, purchase a digital pre-order of DARK SOULS™ III on the Xbox One Store and get the original Dark Souls playable on Xbox One. The code for Dark Souls will be delivered to your Xbox message center in 7-10 days. Y

"Get DS1 with the pre-order. It will be delivered in 7-10 days. "

From what I recall from getting Fallout 3 with my FO4 preorder, it was 7-10 days after FO4 came out, rather than from when I preordered.

While it is worth noting that FO3's case could have just been special since that also lined up with when they officially made bc titles available, it makes sense that they wouldn't send stuff until after whatever you preordered came out. Otherwise, it'd be easy to preorder, get the freebie, and then cancel before release.

Alan Wake's American Nightmare codes were sent out 7-10 days after the Quantum Break preorder.

I fancied some Halo Wars last night so put my disc in, for some reason expecting it to work. It didn't. I wish they'd hurry up and activate it!

Edit: And whilst I'm at it, where the hell is GRAW? I picked it up for pennies during a digital sale a while back and still no sign of BC :(
