Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

The input lag on geowars seems to have been reduced from when it was in the preview program. I didn't play it enough to really test it, though, as the input issues are really more noticeable on deeper runs.

But at first blush, it's an improvement

I like this trend of releasing smaller XBLA titles at a quicker pace. Glad they stopped with the monthly updates; I just wish they'd put out a game I own!

Honestly, I think XBLA stuff should be the priority if anything. AAA games like Gears of War or whatever are going to be ported, re-released and remade for years to come, but XBLA is full of gems that I'd hate to see lost to the mists of time.

@EvB - Is it still possible for you to pull the emulator build numbers?

From what I recall from getting Fallout 3 with my FO4 preorder, it was 7-10 days after FO4 came out, rather than from when I preordered.

While it is worth noting that FO3's case could have just been special since that also lined up with when they officially made bc titles available, it makes sense that they wouldn't send stuff until after whatever you preordered came out. Otherwise, it'd be easy to preorder, get the freebie, and then cancel before release.

Was FO3 just a code in the case for FO4? I bought a "new" copy of FO4 from gamestop, but the case was open and there wasnt any paper work inside of it, and I never got my copy of FO3.

Yeah, it was a code on a card inside the box.

Dammit. I hate that when you buy games at gamestop it says new on the sticker on the back of the case but the shrink wrap is open and there is nothing inside. It is one of the reason that I stopped buying games from them, but my wife bought me this as a surprise so oh well.

That really, REALLY sucks if this is the case. I was under the impression it was releasing in this week sometime and was all hyped to play it as a result. It doesn't even really make sense either to wait until AFTER Dark Souls 3 releases to give you the original, since 90% of people will be playing DS3 instead.

Seems logical to me to release the original BC as a means to tide people over, and possibly even get more expose and pre-orders for 3 from people that try the original for the first time and like it.

Regardless though, they really need to make this stuff more clear. The description on the pre-order page is too subjective and could be interpreted either way. I pre-ordered strictly for DS1 (and in case it was only a bonus initially) and now it looks like my only reason for pre-ordering may be pointless after all =\

Yeah I agree. Lots of great XBLA titles out there that might not ever get re-released, especially from the early years of the system.

That's not Red Dead :(

I have to say I think I preferred the monthly lists, releasing them when they're ready just don't have the same feel to it.

we wouldn't be saying this if they were coming out at a regular pace, though

the problem as been that it's coming out like a game every week or something. that we got 2 this week has been an exception

Honestly ready to hop on Black Ops by the end of this month if that compatibility date is true. I know it probably took longer to get that game working cause of the normal license process (Rolling Stones, baby)

Did Black Ops run at 30 or 60fps on consoles?

Does Black Ops have a ton of hackers?

my old old xbox account has sonic 1, doom 1, SotN and geowars 1 on it but I don't remember the login details :/

How bad is the geowars input, anyone? i'm expecting a little bit at least due to being a BC title.

If you've played Gears a lot in the past then you'll notice it and find it to be enough to affect your gameplay a bit.

If I had to make a direct comparison based on "feel" it's a little better than Rise of Tomb Raider.

Is there a rumor that left 4 dead 2 is coming on backwards or are my friends feeding me garbage?

It was on the store, you can still see it I believe if you find someone who has it and they're following the game you can look and follow it back. If you had the digital version of it you could download it and play it. But it's since been fixed and just says unavailable where the price is. They need to fix that game before they even try backwards compatibility. So broken.

Since everybody keeps asking about Dark Souls, it's not 7-10 days after preordering the game that you receive your free copy it's 7-10 days after Dark Souls 3 comes out.

I have the physical Dark Souls disc and hope to play it well before that though.

I'm sure it's been discussed to death but how likely are they to find a solution for multi-disk games? It works on 360, for both old Games on Demand titles and for discs so I don't get the holdup here.

It's different with the 360 because it reads off the disc whereas with xbox one it doesn't, they need to figure out a way to make digital games ask for a disc swap and recognizing that the disc has been swapped over.

Surely if the games were available digitally originally, it can just download the file and authenticate with the first disc in the drive?

And if they weren't, just have a digital file for each disc. Or just don't bother at all. Works either way.

They can that's why some games like Witcher 2 works, but most games with multi discs aren't available digitally.

True ... but come on Microsoft!

It can´t be this hard to emulate an opening and closing DVD drive and then swapping the image file when then are able to figure out a complete emulator nobody thought was possible ;-)

There are really huge risks to security in doing so, I think that is a large part of the issue.
Also, there are so few dual disc games, overall compatibility that serves the entire games portfolio is a better use of resources.

If there is a GoD version of the game, it is already in a single disc package that is ready for the emulator.

Ex. The Witcher 2

Later multi-disc games that made the jump to GoD packages (because GoDs could be bigger than a single DVD disc) won't have an issue with BC, so long as the game itself runs.

The problem is the early multi-disc games that were never packaged as single image GoDs. Since there is no single disc image for those games, they will need to be tweaked in order to run as a single GoD (which is what all of the BC games run as).
