Xbox One: Details on Connectivity, Licensing (24 hour check-in) and Privacy Features

Everyone who plans to boycott, sign it, and then we can see how many of them end up posting Forza 5 impressions come November.

I'll sign it. Will you be eating crow when your list is still boycotting?

How is Microsoft even going to communicate their policies to the average, non-neogaf surfing consumer? You can't just not warn people about this. Sooner or later one of the 33 million Xbox owners who never connected to the internet is going to be in for a rude surprise when they can't play their favorite game. Somebody in Gamestop is gonna start a shitstorm if they are told there are limitations in place to trading in Xbox One games. Maybe the mainstream don't care about these issues now since it's all words, but the moment they realize things don't work the way they always have there will be a barrage of rightly entitled consumers banging on the doors.

This is worse than I ever imagined. I'm going to be pissed if Sony does the same thing because I won't support this bullshit.

What horrible, horrible fucking news. I will not give them a single dollar for that piece of junk. It is my sincere hope that none of you do either. Pass AznKnight's image online so people become aware.

This seriously need to be printed and "street promoted" all over fucking america. Seriously.

It's kinda sad I'm afraid to say how I actually like this sytem and think it's basically Steam but better, because there's a chance I'll get banned for it because the only way you can think that is if you're a shill. This thread is getting kinda crazy.

These people being banned aren't being banned for just one post.

So basically,

1. If you let a friend borrow your game, you really just gave it to them forever because it's only tradeable once.

2. Sure, I have a pretty reliable internet connection at my house. On holidays, I travel home for two weeks or so. At my parents house, they don't have internet. Guess I can't take my console home (which I usually do).

3. If you think about it, it's almost like Gamestop and MS have a backroom deal. If a publisher doesn't charge a trade in fee, then GS still gets all the money from the used game sale, where they bought your game for probably $15 dollars. Now for me, I would sell it online for $35 or so. MS just eliminated that option, guaranteeing that a corporation gets the profits.

I am in for a boycott thread if you want to make one Amirox.

I swear I am ready to be listed on that thread, stickied on top of this very forum and laughed at the day (that will never happen) where I would buy a Xbone.

Agreed. Like I said, we need a slightly cleaned up copy of that flyer in the OP. The general (nonGAF) public needs to be informed. Let's fight a crusade against Christmas mornings ruined by Microsoft.

I am so confused.

So they made it sound like if my friend has a Xbone and have a game installed on my system I can go over to his house login to my account and play it. Is that correct?

EVERYTHING I WANTED IN A GAME CONSOLE!!!!
PLUS TV!!!

It's so sad, that if you take away the TV aspect of this whole thing, it's such a terrible game console. Who wants to put up with that? I hope people this time around vote with their wallets and don't.

they will :(

Have to agree here. People already can't sell, lend, trade apps on their phones and tablets. To them this won't be very different. Xbox One will probably do pretty good sales wise.

There is a difference between a 99 cent game on IOS and a $60(or more?) game on Xbone. There is a reason why Gamestop is making billions each year. Hardcore are early adopters of systems and usually bring their friends along after telling them how great the system is. If the hardcore won't buy it the casuals won't either.

The 360 is the only console in my lifetime that stopped working .. That was the first red flag

This is on a whole other level

I hope ms goes down and takes EA with it

This almost guarantees Sony will do something similar.

If it's up to the game publishers to set up their transfer fees for used games with retailers, and Sony does not restrict used games, Microsoft may get more exclusives (because the publishers can make money on used game sales on Xbone, but not PS4). Sony will probably not stand for that.

So Microsoft seems to be throwing First-Sale doctrine to the wind. I'm sure someone is going to take them to court over this. I see a Class-Action coming soon.

Given how incredibly business friendly our governments and courts are right now, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Maybe in the EU.

this is like that tree house of horror episode where homer asks his clones if they remember the way home.

fucking lol

That's actually impossible because the Kinect can recognize your voice and your voice specifically.

It actually already happened during Microsoft's last presentation a few weeks ago. There as a Kotaku article about it. Whenever the guy on stage kept saying it, it shut everyone's systems off with Kinect 1 who were watching it on their Xboxes.

no, you're not going to get banned because you like the x1. proof? you just said you like the x1 and you're still here.

Angry Joe has another rant coming but he might have to re-record it because he spat on the lens without noticing and it's there the whole time.

Make no mistake, if Sony does the same thing without comparative consume advantage, I'm switching to PC gaming only.

There at least there is downward pricing pressure, lack of monopoly, and increased likelihood of future compatibility.

To assume the laws of economics (such as digital prices going down over time) will not apply to Sony and/or MS is unreasonable.

Lets get this on Reddit and get it to the top page ... that's bound to get a point across.

Doubling down on the Steam analogy. How is it better?

Just canceled my Xbox Live account of over 10 years. I guess i was part of the problem for paying for it but i enjoyed the service early on and just kept paying etc. They gone too far though, and i wont be getting the next xbox. And i have like, 100+ 360 games. Thats a lot of sales they are losing that Valve and Sony will now be getting. (If Sony has the same DRM, they just better be thanking the gods they have Naughty Dog)

So at this point, would those 15 or so exclusives to be announced at E3 have any chance of changing your mind?
15 or so exclusives I can't play the way I want to play them? I mean this is not a loose issue here. It's very hard set in that I know how I play most of my games and they have taken that away from me on a universal scale. And I'm paying $400 ? Oh no.

Oh hey buddy, ME3 ending is good. The
starchild
is a metaphor for
rebirth of the galaxy, to be born anew
.

Oh good. So my hate of 2001 extends to Mass Effect now. That explains alot.
I wish the Indoctrination ending I just read about was true. It sounds radical.

yikes, those were some fucked up things they were saying in that thread... no wonder they were banned :(

I definitely support the endeavor, but I am too tapped out to be able to front end another topic. I'm currently swapping between two major ones (E3 Summary and NeoGAF Rumour Tracker) and periodically adding to my Xbox One debacle list.

Well boycotting the XBONE confirmed. Anyone ok with this needs to make a stand and not put up with this bullshit.

It has all of the disadvantages of Steam and none of Steam's awesome advantages.

Make your case. Actually try to answer counter points and don't just go : "You are all idiots, digital is the future, Microsoft are smart." and you won't get banned.

Also, don't be a viral marketer for a PR company. That also helps.

But how useful would it really be? How easy will it be to make other XBL accounts family members? (or will that even be possible?)

They might do it like the current family plans and there are a bunch of slave accounts that share a set amount of games.

THANK YOU! This is exactly what I posted about a few pages back. It is the biggest pipeline you could ever ask for as a government agency to look directly into whatever homes it likes and watch the behavior and see the interaction and monitor the friends and phone calls and anything else you could imagine. There is NO WAY I would EVER think about doing this and no one in their right mind would! Hopefully, as at least one of our fellow GAFfers have said, other game and media outlets will connect these dots for consumers.

The problem with this type of news coming out is that the gaming media is stuck too far up the publishers' asses because they need preview coverage, review copies, exclusive articles, etc. A few out there are standing up for consumers, but I see a lot of defending of the publishers rather than looking out for the people keeping those companies in business. Glad that Jim Sterling and a few others are coming out fully against these policies, as they should.

Most people never buy a single App over $5 at most. It's not even something they think about when purchasing. It's not comparable to a retail game at all.

Plus, they can play their games, like Angry Birds, offline whenever they want.

I can be banned for all eternity, if you ever see me buying an Xbox, or a PS4 (if sony goes the same path).

We must fight for our rights, and I think we vote with our wallets...lets boycott this failure.

Are people seriously comparing console market with iOS market ?! Are people mentally ill ?! YOU CANT EVEN COMPARE IT TO STEAM, LET ALONE iOS/ANDROID...this is just plain stupid.
