Xbox One Launch Thread [Thread being archived 1/1/14]

Has anything big launched in the last few years that hasn't had big problems at the start? I'll be very surprised if there aren't widespread problems with Xbox Live this weekend.

MS can't afford for it [Xbox Live] to go offline for extended period at launch, as the console doesn't work without the day one update. Games from disc don't start.

What game will you be playing first guys? mine is Killer Instinct!

Forza for the "woah" effect

Then Killer Instinct dojo+practice all day long

I'll focus on Dead Rising 3 once the OMFG NEW SHINY CONSOLE has finished otherwise i already know i won't be able to focus on the story

What's the one genre you'd like MS to bring to the Xbox One? For me, I want a first party platformer, be it a new IP or existing franchise like Banjo.

Sony has just had big problems, then other big launches, Sim City didn't work, Diablo 3, GTA V, etc etc

I am not sure why but it seems no matter how important these launches are, companies just struggle.

Exactly why I am fearing it.
However I really hope MS has put in their best efforts to not let this happen because basically the console is a brick until it gets that update, albeit a nice looking brick, it's still a brick.
I doubt they need more bad press because hundreds of thousands of people have a shiny $500+ black brick in their living rooms.

I want a real offline RPG, Fable 4 that was more like Fable 1 or 2 would have been great.

Also on that theme a game like Fire Emblem would be appreciated, I also want a Civ Revolution type game.

I have time off work for this launch. I wasn't so upset with the PS4 craziness last weekend. I will be if I can't play the Xbox online this weekend. Two bad console launches in a row will piss me off.

Friday can't come soon enough. Forza and Need For Speed ordered and paid for(though NFS apparently not a launch title in Australia??), credit card ready to go to purchase Killer Instinct!

Friend is buying Ryse and Dead Rising 3, will have a look at those at his place and if I like there is a retailer only a few minutes away.

That would be awesome. An actual focus on the mechanics this time as well. I wouldn't mind both a new WRPG franchise and a JRPG from them.

Oh, I've been there. Here's an example of how hard it is: websites are built for millions of visitors. They work. Doesn't seem hard, right? Then try having a million visitors turn up at the same time. It's really, really, really difficult to get right. (Not saying MS won't).

Question time (for those that can answer)

I have the Friday booked off work so I can enjoy the midnight launch and a long weekend of delicious Xbox One gaming...a friend of mine is also thinking of booking the Friday off and coming down for the weekend so we can play a few games together.

Do any of the release titles support same screen co-op or split screen multiplayer?

Aside from KI, I can't think of any game we can play "together"?

(He can't afford one, so sadly we won't be able to LAN)

Speaking of LAN functionality, I presume MS have built it in as standard like the OG Xbox and 360?

Kinect Sports Rivals Preseason can be played in Split-Screen.

I read that Call of Duty has 2 player co-op on the systems... and I believe that might only be for extinction.

A true Banjo Kazooie game would be amazing. Not the Nuts and Bolts spin off, but a true successor to the original franchise. Banjo has always been one of my fave platformers, shame they failed to capitalise on a true sequel.

frayne182 got banned for recommending Ghost, right?

Lol. Thread whining most likely.

Nice, not 100% sold on Forza yet I may actually pick up NFS before it. Haven't played a NFS game in so many years.

All the sports games are up to 4 player

I feel bad I had to cancel my pre-order. But living in Japan (for the long haul) I couldn't take the risk of an American console not working with the TV features they are planning for the Japan market. Will have to wait till next year.

Longest 4 days of work of all time

Jesus i'm going crazy at the office (when i'm not browsing gaf)

Yup. And its not helping that there is so little news, except the reviews from yesterday.
Days are so sloowwww.

We still don't have any leaked footage of people who got an Xbox One early, right?
