Xbox One- what would it take to get YOU to buy one ?

This question was popped in a pre-E3 thread months ago but it was more about just "what games you would want" than anything else.

I propose a new thread because it's become apparent that some of the stuff MS has tried to spur sales hasn't really worked.

It sold well based on launch hype last year and managed some post christmas success in north america but titanfall didn't move hardware as quickly as I think MS and EA thought it would. When both the forza 5 bundle and Titanfall bundle failed to cause a huge sales push , I get the feeling MS placed some bets on the delayed kinect sports 3. It ,too, failed to sell well. So the final nail in the kinect coffin was placed , it got removed from the package and you could finally buy an xbox one for 100$ less (same price as a PS4) without the kinect which is what everyone claimed they wanted.

Yet, the sales didn't go up and the PS4 still beat it in June quite handily.

So what's going on here ? I know , in my case, I'm getting too old to rush out and buy all these new game consoles just to have them and because of all the bad press last year I decided MS didn't want my business. So once PS4s finally popped up on canadian store shelves (conveniently right after an exchange rate adjustment on price) I bought one with infamous. That expended a good portion of my gaming budget for the year so I'm just not feeling the need to rush in to an xbox one right away. As I'd mentioned in the arcade stick thread- I own a SF4 arcade stick for the 360 and it doesn't work with the xbox one. The xbone game I want to play the most is Killer Instinct. I've grown to rather enjoy playing fighting games with an arcade stick as opposed to a controller (although the xbone does have a much better dpad at least) but can't really justify playing 400$ for a console + 40$ for a game + 200$ + for a new stick (if I can even find one for msrp, they're virtually sold out). That all said ;however, MS did announce the halo master chief collection with halo 1-4 all ported up to xbox one coming this november. I think in my case if they wanted me to buy a console this year , they'd bundle that halo collection with the system for the same 400$ price point and I'd consider it. Fix the driver support and let me use my 360 stick and I'd be tempted to buy one tomorrow but better judgement on my finances would keep me waiting a bit longer. Ultimatly the cheaper it gets the more attractive it becomes for me, it has a handful of exclusive games I wouldn't mind playing but nothing I feel the need to rush out for.

How about the rest of GAF ? Did their mess of a an unveiling sour you on ever buying an xbox one ? Did you buy a PS4 already and don't feel like spending more money when you lack the time to play even the PS4 ? What are the reasons why you don't have have one yet and what would it take to get you to buy one ?

I'm still finishing my backlog slowly on PS360 with a PS4 White Destiny bundle on preorder.

I'll probably get one when Forza Horizon 2 launches. Awaiting some details on this white XBO Sunset Overdrive bundle as well. Might as well match the two consoles up if I can.

Games. Though with Microsoft's promise to put more effort into PC, I just don't see the point to buy one.

won't be popular answer but if Microsoft's name wasn't on the box I would of bought it already. Or atleast given it some consideration for a gift to myself next tax season or something.

I already have one but in reply to what you said, I really think MS would be making a big mistake if they don't make a $400 bundle with MCC this November.

Interesting exclusives from more first party studios that actually stay exclusive . . . Microsoft is the reason I have a 360 controller for my PC and no Xbox consoles.

i don't have one because i have a gaming PC that is good enough for all my multiplatform needs.

what would it take for me to get an xbox one? probably a price drop, more exclusive and interesting games. Forza and Halo might be enough for me to get an XB1

I think every system should have a free year of Xbox Live. Since we now have two paid services it's asking alot for someone to pay for PS Plus and Live. A free year gives someone the opportunity to decide which they like better.

Cross compatibility with 360 games or a cheap digital upgrade option of my existing 360 games that work on Xbox one and future consoles

Exclusive Japanese core games are the main reason for me to buy a home console. So far there's 1 game I'm interested in; Scalebound.
The same goes for the PS4 though; Bloodborne.

If it starts swallowing up shoot em ups like the 360, and has some compelling 'arcade' titles not available on PC, I would consider one for offline use, I've no need for a gold sub.

i feel the same as you, but its the ps4(playstation four) xbone for halo is worth 23k to me. i hate halo.

What does 'k' mean? You didn't tell us what it means!

I have no interest in Halo either. I loved the first game, hated the second apart from local multiplayer, but I don't want to go back.

I have a ps4, I probably won't buy an xbox one no matter what. Unless some bomb like fallout 4 exclusive and a price drop to 199 I won't even think about it. I have no need for two consoles and if I do get a second it would be a wii u for the Nintendo goodness.

I own Xbox and 360, but have no interest in Xbone.

TBH I just don't have time to really enjoy yet another system, and I've gone basically all Sony this gen. Also, I don't feel very positive about M$ as a company either, so not interested in supporting them anymore.

There'd have to be a class of exclusive games that I just can't get on PS4 which at this point is most effectively going to be Japanese RPGs, and it's not likely that's going to happen.

Having enough dough. Only reason I got a PS4 first was because of the 100 buck price difference at the time and I planned on having both this gen again anyway.

The initial reveal never bothered me...nor has their PR mishaps.

At this point I already chose my next gen console, but if I hadn't, I'd say B&K + a lot of really good single player games. They have multiplayer down, but they need some good RPGs and basically anything but FPS. There is nothing consoles can do to make me prefer playing multiplayer over a PC, so they need strong exclusive single player experiences (like Demon's Souls).

At this point, I'm not sure there is anything they could do to make me want one. Probably a Mechwarrior is about all I can think of that would be compelling enough, but I don't see that happening.

To be honest, they lost me more than I thought they would.

I was a 360 only owner last gen. Didn't have the time or money for both and all my friends bought 360s. So I was happy with our 360 community.

After the disaster of the X1 launch we all bought PS4s. I told myself I'd pick up a x1 after a few great games came out and I had time/money.

But now, I'm finding that I just don't care that much. Sure there are a few games, but all my friends need to buy a x1 as well for it to matter. Games like the MC collection and Sunset Overdrive only appeal to me if I can play with my friends and none of my friends can afford 2 consoles and 2 yearly subscriptions.

So right now, for me to get one it needs to be so damn cheap and compelling that ALL my friends are willing to own both. That's a tall order.

I'm not sure what they can do other than release some great games, I'm waiting to play SO & MCC and then I'm probably going to flog mine. Only since I've had both have I realised that I actually only need one.

Enough exclusives i'd really care about. So far none, willing to give the dragon game a chance after seeing some actual gameplay though. That's only one game though.

One game (probably W- or J-RPG) that really interests me and of which there isn't an on par version for PC/another console. Also I'd like to reduce my backlog before buying a PS4 or XBone, so I'm in no hurry. I rarely feel the urge to play games right at release.

If they release the Sunset Overdrive bundle here in Mexico at a decent price (under 8000 pesos) then I will probably pick one up. But, I am thinking about just upgrading my PC because down here PC games are half the price of console games. (40 dollars vs 80)

As far as your questions, yes, the unveiling and DRM/internet connection stuff did sour me to the Xbox one but now things are fine. I don't have a PS4 and have no plans to get one. The only reason I don't have an Xbox One now is because it was the start of the new generation and I wanted to wait until the hardware issues were sorted out first and also there were no games that I really wanted to play. However, now there are at least five that I would pay money for : Destiny, Halo MCC, Dragon Age, Sunset Overdrive and Forza Horizon.

I already own one, and am enjoying it more then my PS4 itself. Probably in future years (maybe even next year) things will turn out being the contrary, but for this year, special this last semester, I think that Xbox One line-up is just TOO GOOD! =)

Also, I like how MS is supporting their Xone OS and listening to thier consumers, a thing that Sony is doing so bad with the PS4.
