Xbox One will include TWO AA batteries

I actually don't mind using AAs, but then as brought up we DO have eneloops.

Ideally they'd just have some rechargable pack that can be replaced by AAs of your choice, so you can keep going thorugh eneloops, or you can be a monster burning through disposable batteries, whichever.
"Monster" there IS hyperbole by the way.

fuck off with AA battery packs, jesus.

Really Microsoft?

Lithium-ion should be standard, down with this AA batteries!

you guys are crazy, when my PS3 controller dies I'm basically done playing so I constantly have to plug it in which is annoying. Wireless 360 pad? Go steal some batteries outta a TV remote and slap my old ones in the charger for 15 minutes.

The PS3 controller still works when plugged in.

You can get a 12-foot long mini-USB to USB cable from Monoprice for like $2.

Wired controllers, eww.

Don't really seem the problem here. Good to mention that since not having AA batters for your controller right from the start would be kind of bad.

10/10, tag worthy. A point that will be looked at very intensely when the need for another round of moderators comes up.

What I do when my PS3 controller is out of juice: I connect it to my laptop and continue playing.

When my 360 controller dies I have to scramble for charged AAs because the only other thing in my home that uses AA are old-ass clocks that don't run on a power cable.

Yeah that was one big annoyance with the PS3. No low power state to charge the controller. I worked around this by buying a $2 8ft USB extension cable so that the DS3 acts as a wired controller while charging.

Good that they fixed this for PS4 so you don't have to have your console powered on fully to charge. I don't think it will be that hard to remember to just plug your controller in after your done playing every few days so that its at full charge the next time.

You can plug it into anything that offers USB charging tho. So move your laptop closer I guess? You know how many devices I have that use AA batteries? Exactly one, my TV remote, and I am not going to start having rechargeables sitting and occupying plug space 24/7 for a stupid remote.

I plug my DS3 into my laptop which sits right next to me. So you actually fiddle about with batteries in the middle of a game? That seems.... extraneous.

Well, this thread is exactly what I expected from you guys.

Sorry, are we drowning out the reasoned and intelligent conversation of the interesting proposition of a pair of AA batteries being included with the Xbone?

So you're saying there's no intelligent conversation to be had here, and this thread only exists to spawn troll posts?

Total opposite to me. I hated using AA batteries that I knew they were partly drained because of lack of use (see the Wii). Every couple of months I wanted to play I had to get fresh batteries. Even those rechargeable ones don't seem to last that long.

Someone get digital foundry on the line. Xbox One has more AA's then the PS4 confirmed!!

But this thread got me thinking...

Has anyone had a PS3 controllers battery completely die on them and not take a charge anymore? It was always the doomsday story people told but it never happened to anyone I know. My Japanese import DS3 from early 2008 is still going strong.

Not had any completely die on me, but they just run out of battery within a couple hours now, but i played on my console a lot, so every two years i would get a new one and dump the old one into a drawer.

I have so many eneloops this doesn't really matter much, but it would have been nice if had it's own rechargeable pack built in. They'll make more money selling play and charge kits etc. So I could see why they would take this route.

Was there anyone who did NOT expect AA batteries in the box? I guess there might have been people pointing it out since he didn't show it in the unboxing (which although it was appreciated was probably the worst unboxing I've seen).

My launch controllers still work.

Are you suggesting that a fun stupid thread is indicative of a deep and pervading anti MS bias that you seem to expect from this forum?

Same here. I just got a longer charging cable which cost a lot less than getting any batteries (rechargeable or regular) anyway.

One of my DS3's doesn't charge anymore. It's about 4 years old though and I hadn't used it for about 2 years because the R2 trigger screwed up.

Yeah.... I'd only go and use a Play and Charge kit anyway if I had an Xbox 1. Don't see why they use AA batteries in this day and age. The number of cold, dead batteries I've pried out of Gameboys and Wii Controllers over the years is unreal. Just let me hook it up to the machine.

Heck, I still play with my PS3 pad plugged in most of the time. Wireless doesn't feel right to me :p

Quick, need some tech info on these things

An AA battery measures 50.5 mm (1.99 in) in length—50.1 mm (1.97 in) without the button terminal—and 13.5–14.5 mm (0.53–0.57 in) in diameter.[2]

Alkaline AA batteries have a mass of roughly 23 g (0.81 oz), lithium AA batteries have a mass around 15 g (0.53 oz), and rechargeable NiMH batteries around 31 g (1.1 oz)

Oh you beauties...
