Xbox |OT| Power Your Dreams

I just think it’s funny that anytime Series wins a game, Ethomaz hits the devs up on Twitter to ask “what went wrong?”

That's too funny. LOL

This admission may end up getting me dismissed as any sort of “Gamer of Note” but, ah....I never got into the Fallout games. I was all about Team Elder Scrolls. Never played Prey either.

It is a massive understatement to say that I’m loving my Series X with it’s unparalleled support of Backwards Compatibility right now. Just gonna wait a bit longer for the FPS boost for Fallout 4 to hit before I jump into Bethesda’s famous Wasteland. But now someone is sure to chime in that Fallout 3 is a MUST before playing #4. I sure hope not because I think I’m done with 30fps. It literally bothers my vision now to the point it feels like it’s going to trigger a migraine. Just this morning I played around with Skyrim at 30fps.....CAN’T DO IT GUYS (GALS). And look, Skyrim is on the FPS boost list. (And yeah, I know there is a mod to enable 60fps already, but I’d rather it be baked in automatically)

Very curious to see if there will be further FPS Boosted Bethesda classics.

And just a random comment....but is anyone else flabbergasted at how quickly Xbox is seemingly turning around their prospects for this generation? Other than the sneaky attempt to raised the price of Gold - and even then they responded quickly to the backlash - they have pretty much nailed everything. Even that roundtable, which Aaron Greenburg attempted to undersell, was incredibly good....without a single new game shown or really talked about. More and more I think Phil Spencer deserves big kudos - his greatest achievement may be getting Satya Nadella on board in supporting the gaming side of Microsoft in a huge way. The Xbox I’m seeing already is sort of unrecognizable....in a good way!

I think 3 had a better story and less fetch quests..but for the gameplay the 4 is the best

Very true. Spencer takes a lot of flack from xbox fans and haters alike, but he's done a great job with what he's been given to work with, IMO. You've got to figure most of the years he has been at the helm support from MS has been minimal. Selling MS on the idea of GP has seemed to turn the tide for Xbox, looks like some good times ahead.

The power of numbers!

Just looking into what 24m players means for Forza Horizon 4. In a traditional sales environment, that makes it the biggest non-Nintendo racing game of all time by quite a lot (Gran Turismo 4 - 17.83 million).

But because of Gamepass it isn't a traditional sales environment. You have to presume millions of used players for Gran Turismo 4, as well as people sharing. You also have to presume that a lot of those 17.83 million players bought it at less than launch price, with several million of them probably paying less than one month of Gamepass. It released in 2004 and was the last mainline GT game until 2010, on a difference console. We can presume it had a LONG tail. Forza Horizon 4 has not had that long to compete, and isn't going to get it. Forza Horizon 5 will probably take its place.

So we can't really work out how successful Forza Horizon is compared to other titles from the numbers, because there's too much missing data. I think there'd be plenty of quibbling on here if we started calling it the most successful non-Nintendo racing game of all time - even if it's at least probably partway true.

But this actually shows the beauty of Gamepass. More people are playing these games across more platforms than ever before. You don't need to wait for something to get cheap or even pre-owned before you get to play it. You can buy it day one - like so many people would have done for GT4 - but it doesn't really matter if you don't want to pay for it at all, so long as you're in that subscription.

Forza Horizon's player numbers surpassed sales numbers for GT4 in less than two years. Today we have DLC and MTX, as well as the basic subscription fee. We also have way more vying for our attention and way more access to the games we want. But a good game will still do well, and in fact it can potentially do better than anything we had before.

Perhaps not surprising to those of us who've paid attention, but these figures will start sneaking up on some of the naysayers over the coming years.

I'm amazed to play Splinter Cell Double Agent (xbox 360 version) with stable framerate and no screen tearing, it's a game changer for me.

I have the Series X since November, a few months later i got to say I've never had a most complete and fun experience with any other console on launch, backward compatibility with that much improvement, game pass and all, it's without a doubt the best console Microsoft made.

Quick resume is a game changer for me, when i go back to the PS4 for fighting games or Driveclub, man theses loading times are way too long, the auto HDR is cool and some games are completely redone with HD treatment ( Ninja Gaiden Black, splinter cell series comes to mind ) with the FPS boost coming on more titles, it's gonna be the best system to revisit old games.

I have $30 in MS funny money already loaded with enough to get more so i could grab Immortals Phoenix Rising Gold without spending anything out of pocket. Is it worth the effort/purchase?

The base game is for sure, not sure about the season pass yet, but what they are promising sounds good.

I dont have Switch so I haven’t played BOTW, but people are comparing both games a lot. Anyway, I loved Fenyx Rising. It’s charming and doesn’t take itself too seriously (even though most of the humour is very juvenile). The gameplay is fun, especially when you learn most of the special moves and skills. More like an open world action game than RPG.

speaking of Bethesda. Loaded up the first Wolfenstein just to see how it holds up. Graphics are a bit dated, but, man, that game is a FPS masterpiece. There something to it that makes killing Nazis so satisfying. Also, love that bleak, darkly humorous tone that is unlike any game that I can remember.

lol you want to talk dated graphics, I spent the weekend playing Doom (1993) 😅

I had never played the 4th episode before. Goddamn the first couple missions are tough as hell when you have no ammo or supplies.

I have a hard time playing anything 3d that is pre-DreamCast, unless I have a nostalgic attachment to it or something. My eyes, my eyes. :messenger_grinning_smiling:

The Outer Worlds
Skyrim
Prey
Dishonoured
Fallout 4
Fallout 76

all updated to 60fps today.
I appreciate that MS respects our past purchases enough to let us enjoy them and go out of their way to try to modernize them.

No other console can you play a bunch of game Series from beginning to end like Assasins Creed, Splinter Cell or Dead Space. They also encourage sales of Legacy software that should be dry by doing this.

I just bought all the Splinter Cell last week digitally, even though I owned them physically. Where else is Ubi getting money from Pandora Tomorrow, today?

Has Skyrim aged well or have modern RPGs more or less eclipsed it?

Got it on GamePass but it feels kinda ancient during my first 30 minutes.

it feels a bit old, replayed it for like 40 hrs.

I don’t know...it could be the fact that I hadn’t played it since the 360 days, and completely missed out on the Special Edition refresh....but I‘m fairly blown away by it, especially at 60fps. But yeah, the character animations, especially when you switch into 3rd person, don’t hold up all that well. Combat mechanics are creaky too. But the world itself looks absolutely gorgeous on my OLED. I’m hearing that the Fallout games benefit most from the FPS boost and as I’ve never got into Fallout, I’m excited.
