Gamescom is for public to play and get hands-on of new/ upcoming games. Making major announcements has never been it's thing, although so far this week it's been fairly heavy with decent news. It's nice having Nintendo back, that's for sure. Xbox's livestream will have some news as well. Nothing earth-shattering, but certainly some cool new Game Pass announcements and dates for the Xbox Ally handhelds, etc.

He was just stating a fact, on it's face. He's not saying their prices won't also inevitably go up as things become more expensive, and consoles become more powerful. It's an industry-wide comment. It shouldn't be controversial to merely state the obvious.
