Ridge Racer 6 was announced originally over the weekend during the Xbox Summit in Japan, but Namco Hometek today made it official for the North American market as well.

Leading video games developer and publisher Namco Hometek Inc. today announced Ridge Racer) 6. Developed for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Ridge Racer 6 takes full advantage of the new platform’s capabilities with in-depth multiplayer functionality, unprecedented vehicle control and immersive sound and visual effects to provide the most adrenaline-rich arcade driving experience yet.

In Ridge Racer 6, the classic Namco franchise returns with more speed, excitement and gameplay variety than ever before. Players enter a world of high-definition, high-speed races and can choose to challenge others or take control of the wheel alone in a variety of on and offline modes. Online compatibility lends to features such as Vs. Battles and downloadable content, further enhancing the game’s replayability to make Ridge Racer 6 an unforgettably immersive experience.

“'Ridge Racer 6' was designed with the next generation of hardware in mind and truly harnesses the power of the Xbox 360 to bring the most satisfying gameplay experience to our fans,” said Yoshi Niki, Business Unit Director with Namco Hometek Inc. “'Ridge Racer 6' promises to deliver the highest level of intensity and fun to Namco’s top drift racing franchise.”

My main media download mirror is down, and the other one is saturated. Please use bittorrent as much as possible.
Edit: Looks like it's still working for some of you guys, so it must be a routing problem. Joy.

So what is there to look forward to if you're not a huge racing or sports game fan? My roommate is talking about getting an Xdude 360 so I might pick up a game this fall if there are any good ones.

Thanks for this thread... much easier to find content this way

This is my problem with launches as well. I'm not a fan of either types of game too much (I love sports, but I don't like to play sports games... go figure). But I can't blame developers, these are the easiest games to crank out for them. I'd like a good platformer or rpg myself.

Since Winning Eleven is X360 exclusive for a year, hopefully this means it'll be online on the xbox platform now! If it is online I'll buy it. No online, no buy!

Chrome Hounds (Mech game) was shown in the comprehensive trailer reel..

That's a From Software game though isn't it?

Sega have been so quiet on the Japanese side of things for ages now. Apart from PSU it's looking like everyone has been moved back to arcade development or something.

MS Japan said they'll be announcing games gradually, so there'll be probably new batch of games shown at TGS2005, maybe some of the Sega's stuff will be finally presented. I doubt Sega is not developing a single 360 game atm.

eh say what? where did you get that from?

Oh, I thought someone said last night WE was exclusive for a year. I guess it was a mistranslation. The game isn't coming out till late next year. I see. Same time as the PS3 version probably. :P

That was a mistranslation on Jonnyram's part -- WE will be out on the 360 one year from launch.

EDIT - Bah, beaten.

EmchantArm reminds me to Full metal alchemist
the NNN footage is impressive but the slow-mo camera annoys me

So what are Japanese gamers looking at in terms of games for the first year of Xbox 360?

eMchant Arm
FFXI
Ridge Racer 6
Blue Dragon
Lost Oddyssey
99 Nights
Rumble Rose XX
Winning Eleven
Fifa '06
PGR 3
Kameo
Ghost Recon 3
Chrome Hounds
Frame City Killer
Resident Evil 5
Love Football
Zoo Keeper
Tetris
DOA4
Code Chronus
DOA XVolley Ball 2
Dynasty Warriors Special
Dead Rising
Operation Darkness
Far East of Eden Ziria
Mobile Suit Gundam
Everyparty

and a bunch of untitled stuff... Are those enough to move a significant # of Xbox 360's in Japan??? I still say Microsoft *needs* to snag 1 or 2 BIG japanese exclusives to really compete there. e.g A FFVII remake, or VF5, or something else. They need a true killer app must-have, imo. That lineup is a good start though.

I need to see high-quality videos to make a final decision on X-Box 360 graphics quality... so far next-generation is not impressing me too much...

I think about September we should start seeing some launch title videos in better quality...

we still have not seen hardly anything of what the real Xbox 360 can do. most of the screens and videos we've seen have been from Alpha Kits. the Beta kits with real Xbox 360 hardware have only been in the hands of developers for 4-6 weeks now. not enough even start a game. maybe enough time to create a super impressive demo. Tokyo Game Show in Sept. and X05 in Oct will provide the first GLIMPSE of what Xbox 360 can actually do.

Xbox 360 is only now JUST entering into its first generation of software. everything up until now has been pre-first generation (being that Alpha Kits used outdated ATI Radeon cards).

Is there even a confirmed launch window and lineup for XB360 yet?

I mean, for something that's an estimated 4 months away, it's still painfully nebulous.

You probably already know this, but for those who don't, they did, at least, confirm a holiday 2005 worldwide release again. That is, no delay for Japan as earlier speculated.

For now, at least. Given that production hasn't actually started, anything could happen, but it looks like they're going to have those factories working day and night and then some. The actual amount of HW shipped in 2005 will be one of the most interesting things to see. Can they make 3M? 5M? 7M? What's the upper limit?

so Resident Evil 5 wasn't there??

seems very strange, considering it's showing in famitsu followed directly by Sony having it @ their conference.

No-show of Silent Hill 5 is a big disappointment for me.
Oh well, TGS here we come... :D

I think 3M is likely around the most they will be able to sell by the end of this year. IMO, technically, they will likely only be able to manufacture around that much by the end of the year, even if there is sufficient demand for more sales..

I hope you are right, because TGS is a mere month and a half a way, with launch only about 4 months away. That's not much time, my friend. With PS2's line-up looking very strong this holiday season, X360 shouldn't soley be worrying about PS3 next year.

Hopefully statements like "just wait until developers get more time with the real hardware" don't morph into "well...just...uh....wait until SECOND/THIRD gen games start coming out! Then you'll see the true power of 360!"

But these 2 statements go hand in hand...

right now the developers are developing games for the final X360 hardware not the alpha kits or the beta kits. We won't see the real goodies till TGS!

my point is that the comments always seem to revolve around 'waiting' for the X360 and it's 'real games'.

That's not going to help it with PS3 right on it's heels and it's especially not going to help it's first out of the gate advantage.

there are certain worries i'm having with regards to will everything be ready for launch?

it seems microsoft and sony are both rushing to release, too much. it must be very difficult for both companies, but i hope software isn't hastily pushed out the door for either system.

pgr is the most impressive thing i've seen, so maybe it'll be okay.

RE5 was there, with the same teaser trailer.

If the early to mid November lauch is true, launch games are probably going to have to be in their final form sometime in late September at the absolute latest.

I don't do xbox stuff, but I would assume there would need to be:
~two weeks for duplication + shipping to stores - late October
~one month of test/approval for GMs - code is frozen - late September to start of October
~one month final in house testing - all features are in/only TRC or crash type bugs being worked on - late August to mid September

I would assume launch titles are going to be in their final shipping form a month from now. I would be surprised if anything targeted for launch looks much different than what we have already seen.

BTW what's up with Gamespot? They have ZERO coverage on this event, it's not even mentioned as news.

They started the Playstation Meeting coverage a day after the event! Their Japanese correspondent is slow.

Super Robot Wars from Banpresto.

Right there.. that's the biggest title of them all.

SRW fans are retards, they keep buying the same game over and over again in droves.

A lot of those games mentioned will be multiplatform for sure.
It's a nice start for Xbox 360 in Japan, but it will be over if it sells like shit. Even big Japanese games on Xbox sold like crap and MS still doesn't have a killer app ready.
