Ping-Pong Somehow Elicits Macho Posturing
Tenacious-V said:It wouldn't have been a big deal, just another game for the 360. Just IGN..... being typical IGN hyping up shit that shouldn't be hyped...
Man they never deliver...
Unison said:I dunno... most Rockstar games are a pretty big deal.
I think whoever said that this is a major branding mistake is totally right. Regardless of developer, this should be under the 2K Games label.

AltogetherAndrews said:In all fairness, Doug "hyped" this up based on the fact that it was a surprise based on the developer in question, and I think we can all agree that he was right about that. I don't think he did anything wrong, other than maybe allowing the hype train to reach full speed before putting a granite block right in its path. And if I was an editor for a popular gaming site, I'd do that all the time just for the hell of it. It's a laugh, innit?
Tenacious-V said:I wouldn't do it. They're basically purposely setting up people for disappointment.
Zilch said:No, people's imaginations are setting them up for disappointment. Don't blame someone else.
Tenacious-V said:Set in motion by the overhyping from IGN.
See, now people have made it this Fridayton thing that no realistic announcement could ever measure up to. Then people will bitch at IGN for overhyping this, when in reality that's purely the fault of us message board clowns.
AltogetherAndrews said:Bull. All Doug said was that it was something no one was expecting, and that's very much true. The rest, be it FFXIII exclusive to X360 or Zelda on X360, is entirely the fault of the message board posters.
I'm sure Doug took some pleasure on watching the masses squirm, but that's human nature. Nothing he said was at all misleading.
AltogetherAndrews said:And let's be real, people set themselves up for disappointment the moment they started guessing what it could be. There's absolutely no way this could have been avoided.
Tenacious-V said:People's minds wouldn't have ran so damn fast.
AltogetherAndrews said:But that's the laugh though. C'mon, this is good comedy. An editor who once likened PDZ to Gears of War makes a rather innocent [and truthful] post about an IGN exclusive feature (seriously, how often does IGN get good exclusives?), and people take it all the way to Zelda for X360. If that's not a cue for us to laugh at ourselves, I don't know what is.
Tenacious-V said:Well I'm just gald I didn't waste my time giving their site a hit. :lol
I didn't know what to expect so I just went to bed. Personally I didn't bother thinking up possibilities, but from their enthusiasm it's definitely a disappointment.
Amused_To_Death said:A $40 next gen game is not gonna sit well with the likes of Activision and EA...
AltogetherAndrews said:Enthusiasm from who exactly? Doug just said that he was "amazed by the subject matter and the people putting it out".
same here :lol XDGhaleonEB said:My reaction:

i feel the same way.vatstep said:Okay, this sounds kind of cool (and online play will definitely be a riot), but part of me can't help but think this is sort of an insult to MS. They finally get an exclusive title from RS..and it's a ping pong game.
Tenacious-V said:I'm not gonna get through to you. Think what you wish.

I'm not saying Rockstar doesn't deliver, I'm saying IGN are tools.....
Kobold said:Yea, I apolagize. It might rule of course!
(but i've said that before too though, every game has a token hardcore fan though who will stick with it through thick and thin on GAF)
Project Midway said:Yeah, Konami's Ping Pong on C64 was really awesome, very addictive.
