XBOX360ATON! Ping Pong Pals (Rockstar) announced!

Sounds pretty cool to me.

Hopefully it has some great online features.

This game would be totally acceptable to me if it was on Xbox Live Arcade & cost less than $20. The idea that $40 is a budget price still seems insane to me.

It wouldn't have been a big deal, just another game for the 360. Just IGN..... being typical IGN hyping up shit that shouldn't be hyped...

Man they never deliver...

I dunno... most Rockstar games are a pretty big deal.

I think whoever said that this is a major branding mistake is totally right. Regardless of developer, this should be under the 2K Games label.

Yeah, it certainly sounds more like a $20 xbox live arcade title

In all fairness, Doug "hyped" this up based on the fact that it was a surprise based on the developer in question, and I think we can all agree that he was right about that. I don't think he did anything wrong, other than maybe allowing the hype train to reach full speed before putting a granite block right in its path. And if I was an editor for a popular gaming site, I'd do that all the time just for the hell of it. It's a laugh, innit?

Holy shit.

Ping Pong Pals? This really is like living a lucid dream.

A Dream where IGN still lucidly sucks copious amounts of ass.

Edit: Although, this is still pretty funny.

I wouldn't do it. They're basically purposely setting up people for disappointment.

Not much better than an NA announcement for Bomberman 360. It's not bad though.

But PLEASE someone make a badminton videogame!

No, people's imaginations are setting them up for disappointment. Don't blame someone else.

Set in motion by the overhyping from IGN.

Bull. All Doug said was that it was something no one was expecting, and that's very much true. The rest, be it FFXIII exclusive to X360 or Zelda on X360, is entirely the fault of the message board posters. Or as one very wise character once said...

See, now people have made it this Fridayton thing that no realistic announcement could ever measure up to. Then people will bitch at IGN for overhyping this, when in reality that's purely the fault of us message board clowns.

I'm sure Doug took some pleasure on watching the masses squirm, but that's human nature. Nothing he said was at all misleading.

In fairness, again, IGN could have made this A LOT worse.

They only mentioned the game yesterday, and the info was out today. I don't really blame them so much.

Let me answer from a 'it's a good idea to make games that help sell systems' perspective. No Midnight Club? No GTA? No non-franchise Rockstar game with scope, scale or flair? It's like a kiss of death with hot graphics. It had better be fun as hell, price be damned.

Wow, that was totally unexpected.
In fact, i was expecting a huge letdown, but this goes beyond anything i could imagine.

Simple solution:

IGN: new game announcement friday, stay tuned.

instead:

IGN: New game we've never ever seen before, by someone you'd never expect, which we'd never believe would ever come from them!! The content is so drastically different, I'd never guess it was this or from these guys!

See the extreme difference in enthusiasm? = IGN overhyping as usual.

And let's be real, people set themselves up for disappointment the moment they started guessing what it could be. There's absolutely no way this could have been avoided. Well, I guess he could have just avoided posting anything in the first place, but where is the fun in that?

:lol they were right about not being able to guess.

This better be a budget title. It could be good though, theres a few good table-tennis games on PC but they are all let down by their controls imo..

:lol I was almost right. Anyway it look's ok and it might be fun. Too bad Ign had to sabotage the game by over hyping it.

They could if they used my simple solution! :D

People's minds wouldn't have ran so damn fast.

But that's the laugh though. C'mon, this is good comedy. An editor who once likened PDZ to Gears of War makes a rather innocent [and truthful] post about an IGN exclusive feature (seriously, how often does IGN get good exclusives?), and people take it all the way to Zelda for X360. If that's not a cue for us to laugh at ourselves, I don't know what is.

Well I'm just gald I didn't waste my time giving their site a hit. :lol

I didn't know what to expect so I just went to bed. Personally I didn't bother thinking up possibilities, but from their enthusiasm it's definitely a disappointment.

Enthusiasm from who exactly? Doug just said that he was "amazed by the subject matter and the people putting it out".

A $40 next gen game is not gonna sit well with the likes of Activision and EA...

The only good thing about this announcement unless the game proves addictive. If Rockstar was trying something new and interesting, that's one thing. I guess the Hot Coffee controversy really got to them.

I'm not gonna get through to you. Think what you wish.

Okay, this sounds kind of cool (and online play will definitely be a riot), but part of me can't help but think this is sort of an insult to MS. They finally get an exclusive title from RS..and it's a ping pong game.
i feel the same way.

i knew this would be bad, but i didn't think it'd be this bad.

This is not a matter of getting through or not; I just plain disagree with you. You blame Doug for "hyping" something when he did nothing of the sort. Did he realize what would happen when he posted that? Probably, but that still doesn't mean that IGN is to blame for the typical message board hysteria. He could have posted "popitop", and people would have eventually reached the conclusion that it's obviously a Zelda game for the X360. If this got them a few more hits, then go them.

Gosh . . . it's almost as if their jobs counted on driving traffic to their site.

/boggle :lol

IGN has a reputation. If anyone got their hopes up, it's their own damn fault.

I'll say they don't deliver. GTA is brilliant, The Warriors was better than expected, but what else is there? And why should I care about their product philosophy when they've got one good franchise?

This game is destined to underperform.

Yea, I apolagize. It might rule of course! :)

(but i've said that before too though, every game has a token hardcore fan though who will stick with it through thick and thin on GAF)

No-no, I apologize. You were right.

Yeah, Konami's Ping Pong on C64 was really awesome, very addictive. :)
