Xenoblade Chronicles X - Review Thread

The NA version still has French/Spanish/Portuguese text at least though, right? Most Nintendo games do.

ah my bad... I'm not too sure about the language option tbh, considering whenever people ask for 'is there any dual language' question on a localized Japanese games, it usually refers to whether there's both English & Japanese or not

Don't be silly now.

Why? That's to be expected from the dev and publisher. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Given the current state of gaming and it's ridiculous patches. "Hey 8 gig day one patch!" This game should be given at least a one point bonus on all review impressions.

Monolith Soft did more and better with their first open world game than any Western dev has done in their third or fourth iteration.
Think about that.

Dat Nintendo seal of quality! It's true nothing out of the ordinary when it comes with Nintendo and their main partners on delivering bug-free experiences.

Let's not forget also the free DLC that we will have while Japan had to pay it.

This looks super cool!!

Isn't that true of every WiiU game? I thought it was a requirement for being on the system.

It's not, most have it but it's not standard.

The ones that don't have it use the Gamepad in a very important way but I'm still pissed that Splatoon didn't have a work-around or just let me play Off Tv not using the specific functions.

Games like The Cave have no fucking excuse whatsoever though, I heard it's very easy to implement Off Tv Play but that developer didn't because they suck.

How do you access the DLC characters though? Do they show up as a quest in a certain chapter or what?

You will see a little icon on the map like a black and red circle or fist can't remember. Them you accept it like a regular quest except you can only have two party members when you accept it as those people become your third party member.

Some of the negative reviews, like the ones below 80s, often mention repetition, grinding, too much exploration. I'm starting to wonder if this is more of a niche jrpg game? This doesn't sound much like the chrono trigger, Final Fantasy 10, persona 4 golden, type of game. Which is not a bad thing, but I am keeping my expectations low, especially given that I know a few people did not enjoy the witcher.

Was thinking of picking up this hard drive and a y cable.

Would this one work for Wii U? Figured I'd ask before I bought it.

I've been using a Western Digital laptop hard drive, and an enclosure I got at a computer store, very basic enclosure, with a Y cable. Been running perfectly fine for over two years.

Haven't read all the reviews, but:
* Did any of the reviewers play through the full game? If so, what's the total playing time?
* Which of the reviews mentioned the play time (GameXplain mentioned 85+ hours) which the review is based on?

GameSpot mentioned 60. I'm not sure if anyone else did.

Huge props to those who did mention their playtime tho

I'm pretty sure this is not a turn based JRPG.

Disappointing that there's no JP voice but totally understandable.

Only a few more days until I can inject this into my bloodstream.

Not even the PAL version has Portuguese. There aren't that many Nintendo games in Portuguese yet, although they're working on it.

I'm probably 70 hours in and I doubt I'm even halfway through the story mode. The world is too cool, I'm always exploring and fucking around.

So Wii U owners will have at least one big open-world game to soothe their aching hearts when Nintendo finally cancels the Wii U version of The Legend of Zelda NX!

I don't actually believe this, just sharpening my trollin

you know, there is also lego city stories, another fantastic semi-big open-world game. That makes 2 !

With the possible exception of Final Fantasy 12, Xenoblade & Xenoblade X don't really play like any other JRPG. They're basically offline MMORPGs (although this one has some online options).

What's all this?!

I expected 11/10s for the game, but after looking at both Game Informer and Polygon scores (SEVENS!), I feel like my whole life has been a lie.

As I write this I'm - with so much sadness - cancelling my Xenoblade Chronicles X Limited Edition preorder. I cannot just go and play this game, like if this was The Witchers or Fall Out, this was supposed to be my GOTY, goddammit.. It was going to be my GOTY.

If I enjoyed this game, enjoyed the skels, the vistas, the scope, and took as my GOTY, with these scores, I'd just be big fat hypocrites. I'm not that kind of person, I don't wanna be.

I have to admit I fell to the GAF hype, but that's my fault, as I knew that I shouldn't have trusted Monolith after being bit by The Matrix Online, back in the day.

I need to stop being this naive. Ow, Xenoblade why.

Parody Post?

Well I waited like an idiot so no smash/splatoon system, but just got the Mario Kart 8 w/ DLC bundle on Amazon for $249.99.

Going to go pay off Xenoblade tonight and then Friday I'll nab Yoshi, Mario Maker, Splatoon and Smash for sure. No idea what else I'm going to get just yet.

The reviews make me worry about how much there is to take in and learn, especially if the game doesn't explain a lot of it to the player. Other than that I'm still excited.

So glad to see it getting such great reception. Can't believe that we're mere days away from its release. I look forward to seeing that beautiful open world, up close and personal.

Jose Otero answered me in twitter that the IGN review going to be published this week.... Yes this WEEK.. Lol

Shit happens. Would you rather a review be rushed?

Before I clicked the link I was concerned you were the mcnuggets dude.
It's gonna be super low then so they can get lots of hits.
You seem to have an agenda, or at least some sort of bias.

Otero is easily IGN's best reviewer. I don't know why you people hate on him so much. He actually internally fought for the Splatoon re-review that people asked for.

Quests it seems, nothing else was said.

I guess they will be probably available from the start since you meet them in the city (I think?)

I believe the icon for the dlc characters quests in particular start at the entrance of the city, on the left side when walking in. Normally quests can be found all over the town but since these were originally dlc they can be found at that same spot. I believe I heard these quests have a recommended level so they might not appear right away, but I can't confirm that.

Welp, I know what I'm asking for this Christmas (this & Super Mario Maker). I'd buy it myself, but I spent my cash on a TE2 & my SFV pre-order.

"No punishment for death" ?

What does this mean exactly?

You would still need to retry a battle, right?

Yes, from what I saw :
- when you're not in your skell, you respawn nearby where you died.
- when you're in your skell you can break it so you will loose it but still respawn nearby

That make sense, thanks.

Some RPGs have mechanics where you lose either items or money when you die. WoW for example had you lose 10% of your gold.

I would assume the risk of losing the skell is a counterbalance.

After the middling scores for the EU and JPN releases I had my doubts about this game, but everything sounds awesome. I wonder if modification (other than clothing) was made to the game?

Wow, I'm surprised, I might actually have to get it. I thought people were disappointed with the game when it originally released earlier this year?

Any reviews specifically that compare it to the Wii Xenoblade?

Edit: Oh man, that Escapist review makes me want it.
