Xenoblade Chronicles X - Review Thread

It's intriguing to see how dismissive a large contingent on GAF was on this game based upon a few import impressions. It always seemed odd to me how every XCX had a discussion on how disappointing the game was. I really didn't understand it and I still don't.

GAF gonna GAF

That's a lot more 9 out 10 scores than I imagined it would get. Can't wait to play it for hours and hours and maybe just maybe a few more hours.

A bit off topic, but since Xenoblade is 50% off in eShop, does anyone know if I can use my Wii save for it if I buy the game from eShop? The Wii save is already on the console.

The thing is, this game plays more like Monster Hunter. The fan of those games don't really play for the story they play for the hunt & gear. I cannot wait to try to get the gear set from that lvl 99 dragon with a team of 4.

Getting XBX is like getting a Monster Hunter game with a more MMO'est type of combat, with less loading times and more Open World :)
Have you played the game?

I haven't (yet), but I don't really see much similarities to Monster Hunter gameplay wise. Sure you can get better gear and kill big monsters and cut their body parts, but otherwise the gameplay seems like Xenoblade's combat refined (and that was nothing like Monster Hunter).

Yes you can use your disc save on a digital copy of a Wii game.

According to gamestop.com they are still taking reserves on the collectors... I may have to swing in and reserve that one tonight.

All original Wii saves are compatible with the Wii U eShop versions of the respective Wii game since they boot into Wii Mode anyway.

I'm trying not to read too many reviews for spoiler reasons, but can someone tell me if there's a Japanese audio option?

No there isn't. Disc is full.

There impressions are valid but for some reason everyone seemed to totally ignore the other positive impressions and the handful of glowing import reviews.

Ok thanks people. Guess I'm gonna buy it then... and hopefully get to play it at some point too (lol) with new game+. Was always itching to kill the highest level enemies but just couldn't bring myself to either level up so much or replay the game too soon after playing it the first time.

Reviews are slightly better than I expected. Data Packs loaded and ready for Friday!.

I may even prefer this to the first Xenoblade as a stand-out story is low on my list of priorities when it comes to games. Those fetch quests will definitely irk me somewhat, but I'm very interested in the complex RPG/stat systems and online functionality.

It's not the validity that bothers me. It was the absolute deference to said negative impressions and absolute deaf tone reception to positive elements or positive impressions.

I think the most bizarre thing about the UI complaint from Polygon is that it's focused on the battle UI intruding on the spectacle of the environments...which isn't what you'll be focusing on in the middle of a battle in a game where inputs are handled through menu selections instead of real-time button presses. (You'll be navigating the battle commands in battle, focusing on the spectacle outside of battle.)

Otherwise, I think the reviews are generally pretty fair and criticize exactly the kinds of things I'd hope they'd point out. Nice job, Xenoblade X, and nice job reviewers!

My analysis piece is almost finished for the game! It has its fair share of compromises but, man, Monolith Soft put that Wii U hardware to work. What an amazing looking game overall.

Yeah, it's an odd complaint. Especially since, outside of battle, you can turn the HUD completely off piece by piece.

Coming from the god awful UI in Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, this feels like a huge step up.

The game looks amazing, but I'm not really into rpg's. Last 'rpg' I played was Ni No Kuni, but this looks far more complex and not easy to get into. For someone who does not play rpg's....would you recommend this?

Also, I know the circumstances behind such are far from ideal(what with Mario Tennis and AC Amiibo Party being so critically panned), but it is kinda cool(being the nostalgic old gamer that I am) to see a big JRPG as the defining holiday title for a major console again.

It depends on your time investment. I would say not being a fan of RPGs does put you in a better spot than most, but it does seem pretty unanimous that this game is beastly in terms of content and its various systems, so in a way, you're in the same boat as everyone outside of existing Xenoblade fans.

Yep.

Just your typical posters who don't actually make up their own opinions.

If you are talking combat, yes its nothing like monster hunter. The goal after the story is like monster hunter. You gather and hunt to get materiel for better gear.

The Kotaku review might be the best I've read today. It's very informative for people who are not sure if they should buy the game, it praises the merits of the game but exposes it's weak points in a fair way, it's easy to understand and isn't too long to read. That's the review I would point my friends to.

It was a pretty nice read, yeah.

Confirmed that I should really get the Primagames eGuide as soon as it releases, too. I don't want to wander around the world blind trying to find a specific item or enemy for the side quests. Really hope it actually INCLUDES accurate and specific information about quests, items and enemies, tho.

Thanks for your reply. Game seems massive indeed. Playing 3 games atm, and may not be able to put many hours into this....and I think/feel that you can only enjoy this, putting a lot a hours into this game. Mmm...game is still keeping my mind busy :) Every time I see footage... I wanna dive into that world :)

There's definitely a deep story that pays off, don't worry about that.

Sorry to keep bugging you Rikki, but I just want to make sure I understand because I only loosely followed this game because I got tired of waiting, was driving me crazy so was going in a bit blind.

You said some NPCs join from the settlement do you mean more generic ones that are kind of like a supplement to the cast (may have generic repeated VAs, random solider #107 type thing)? I see that there are ones tied to story or side quests as well. Is there an even bigger pool to pull from outside of this?

WHAT

ah...

I can't wait for this. Xenoblade was not wihtout its problems, but it was amazing none the less

The entire review department there is not worth paying attention to. It's not the scores they give, it's the tortured, inconsistent way they arrive at those scores. And that's what happens when the incompetency starts at the top.

There are NPCS in NLA that you get quests with and they expand their stories out through then.
There is also the ability to recruit players from the world and have them party with you but that doesn't effect the story.
