Xenoblade Chronicles X - Review Thread

Anyone else do a in-store pickup for their preorder at Best Buy? I hate waiting for the mail and I just find it to be less of a hassle to drive to BB. I do have one relatively close to my house though, which helps.

Well yeah, people whose tastes are in line with Otero's. The tons of reviews might all be worthless to these people if they feel like they usually disagree with the reviewers.

I personally think he should have let someone else review the game and that is not because of bitterness.

It doesn't seem to be his type of game but he's the senior review editor or whatever and seems to always review big titles.

Was hoping maybe give that female the review for this one.

Data packs almost finished with only the Enemies and Player packs pending, 3 more days!

I think it's a good thing to have people review a game that isn't typically in their wheelhouse. If reviews were all done by people who were fans of a certain genre or gameplay style there wouldn't be any reviews for the people that aren't fans but are, for some reason, interested in the game.

As for the game itself, I'm gonna be keeping an eye on some NYC stores today. Got a feeling they'll get their shipments in and most of'em sell immediately rather than waiting for street dates. Here's to hoping!

Uhhhhh. If it were the other way around, would you have said "that MALE"?

Yes, she's a she.

I didn't want to misspell her name.

Calle something.

I'm not really an IGN fan, saw her on a podcast.

I would have said that(specificially "that dude"), stop with the sexism bullshit, not going to work here.

Best Buy is still preparing for shipping. I need this game on Friday! If it wasn't the CE I would just go buy a copy and return the one in the mail, but I can't.

Damn are WiiU installations always this slow? It's showing me 1,5h :|. Even Halo MCC with downloading a 20GB patch seems to install faster (and I started this after XBC).

Depends on which server you get.
But generally, yes.

Has anyone's Special Edition shipped from GameStop? Have a feeling they aren't going to ship it until Friday and I'll get it sometime next week.

I picked up somewhere (can't remember where, sorry) that it's not possible to have the game's audio come through the gamepad. As in, plug my headset into the gamepad and have all the game's audio come throught there (it's possible in all other games). Is this true?

I think the only way is to switch to off-tv play...then sound comes through the gamepad. From what I've gathered, the TV duplicates the gamepad image so you could still play on the TV but you'll obviously lose access to the dedicated map on the gamepad.

BTW, in case anyone ever wondered the blue crystals around NLA are a kind of impact gel deployed during the crash. True story.

It's a IGN policy that he needs to finish the game to review it? I wouldnt want a rushed review, specially of a 50+ hour JRPG.

Nah but I guess they decided it would be better to have completed the main story, I don't think many reviewers did ?

So some reviews say this game has fantastic combat. Is that compared to other RPGs or games in general? Is it the strategy, the weapons? Because most RPG combat bores me to tears but if I knew this would really keep me engaged I would buy this game in a heartbeat.

It's mostly that you can customize the skills you use and you have to strategize their use.
Like chaining certain arts together will effect the entire battle. Plus there's height and position changes that boost damage.

Are IGN reviewers contractually required to finish the game though?

Several reviewers like GameXplain admitted they hadn't finished the game at the time of publishing the review.

They finish some games and don't finish other I can't make out how they switch around. I guess they coin toss or something.

It's hard to tell if you'd like it. You can move around but your basic attack comes out automatically though you switch between melee and ranged weapons or board or disembark a skell/mech if you have one. Your special techniques operate on a cooldown so that you have to wait a while after using one to cast it again. Sometimes they're sensitive to your position relative to the enemy (you may gain special effects if you're behind, for example).

I think it's perfectly acceptable to review a game like this without finishing it because of how huge and long it is.

More conventional games...I wouldn't like that but this should be an exception to the rule.
