Have they said if this is a direct sequel/prequel to the Wii game? Since it's using the exact same name...

I wish this game would somehow tie Xenogears, Xenosaga, and Xenoblade together.

Well, the creature that appeared at the end of the new trailer was a Nopon, a species from Xenoblade. Also, someone who looked like the main character of Xenoblade appeared in the game's reveal trailer. I think it is safe to say that this new game takes place in the same universe as the original Xenoblade. However, that in of itself opens up a lot of questions, thanks to some of the particulars of Xenoblade's setting that I can't get into without spoilers.

We probably won't see direct links to Xenogears and Xenosaga, though. At least, I hope they don't. I'd rather let the Xenoblade series carve out its own mythos. It is enough that they're making a game that captures some of the epic storytelling of Xenogears.

I was watching this live with a friend, and for the first thirty seconds I kept insisting this wasn't X because this looked like an entirely different game, graphically. #teamdowngrade

Wonderful story trailer! Character models feel Xenosaga-ish. I dunno if it's just me. In any case I'm cool with it being another Xenoblade, can't complain, looks maaaaarvelous!

They are exactly like character models in XenoSaga. Which makes sense considering who's doing Character Design for the game.

Wait that was X?

WOW,

Kinda wanted Xenoblade 2.

This doesn't look too good.

Well, hopefully Nintendo will actually print some fucking copies this time, rather than printing like, 5, and calling it a day.

Best JRPG of last generation getting an official sequel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*cries*

We got absolutely shitloads here in the UK. I'm sure Japan did too, along with Europe and Australia.

NOA is the issue. But they should be fine this time. I just hope to all hell that Nintendo UK do the translation/localization again. If it has American VA, I'll be sad. Xenoblade had amazing VA.

The perception is false. By no objective or measurable metric is the perception of a downgrade correct. This is a dumb post along with the other "downgrade" posts. :/

Who cares about an objective measurement? If a trailer(visually) appears less impressive than its predecessors, it can't be called out? Oooookay buddy.

Nintendo: I know that our game doesn't look as good as it used to, but rest assured, from an objective perspective, all of the polygons and texture resolutions are intact.

There is a hell of a lot more to visual quality than objective measurements. Xenoblade on Wii proved that.

You do realize Xenoblade 2 would make literally zero sense, right? This game is clearly a prequel to Xenoblade.

I actually don't think the story is related to Xenoblade itself. I think they just chose that name because it has similar gameplay and easier to market (already a Xenoblade brand). Just a guess, anyways. I saw nothing in the story trailer that made me think "Oh, this will be in Xenoblade's world" EXCEPT the Nopon, but... Hmm. I dunno, the Nopon is really the only thing making me want to link the stories at all.

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Yeah, that's correct, because there are no real grounds for calling it less impressive. Are we really white-knighting the nonsense from people who don't understand what they see and make knee-jerk, reactionary posts?

Well, it has the same optical shortcomings that Xenoblade had (gorgeous vistas, but weak characters, not as good-looking close-ups), which isn't exactly surprising. I'm a little sad we didn't get to see more of the cool landscapes in this trailer, though. They need to find the middle-ground between cool-looking landscapes and story in those trailers. :P

Also, what a horrible name. Xenoblade Chronicles X is such a moutful. What's wrong with Xenoblade X, plain and simple?

disliked the character designs for Xenoblade, dislike them even more from what i've seen of X. I'll still play it though, but it's disappointing how bad it looks artistically.

A prequel? Not. A. Chance.

SPOILERS FOR XENOBLADE, proof this is a sequel (IMO)

What came before Xenoblade? Planet Earth. Our planet, as shown as you journey through the solar system before fighting Zanza. Klaus/Zanza destroyed that world and created Mechonis/Bionis.

At the end of Xenoblade, Shulk inherits Zanza's power from Alvis, and restarts the world with the primary goal of their race discovering new worlds.

This new game is quite clearly a sequel, set possibly millenia in the future - that world is essentially destroyed and they are forced to find another as this trailer shows. It makes sense, and follows the theme of Xenoblade perfectly. A massive clue is the Nopon - a race primarily created by Zanza, who survive. The fact that a nopon is in this trailer absolutely 100% proves it is a sequel.

If this game was a prequel, it'd be set here on Earth, where absolutely nothing fucking happens.

Hopefully everyone agrees with me.

I don't think the Nopon means anything, just like Chocobos and Moogles being in more than one Final Fantasy doesn't mean anything. The Nopon will probably just become Monolithsoft's mascot character.

I'd have to take a look at the trailer again, but
there was a space station in there that looked a lot like the space station in Xenoblade's ending

! The Nopons aren't to be compared to those filthy flying rats or noisy birds! D:

Yeah, I suppose that's a possibility.

I want Riki back!
