Xenoblade X (Cross) releasing in 2015 (Xenoblade Chronicles X in the US)

It's pretty clear Takahashi moved away from what they wanted and they decided to project it in the worst light possible. In the full interviews it's pretty obvious that Takahashi's new goals are about world building and exploration and that is what he is focused on right now.

Yeah, for now, he's made it abundantly clear that XG/XS-type writing and storytelling is a dead end for him. If people are going in to XCX expecting him to return to that, then they're in for some serious disappointment.

The Cast's faces are a mixed bag, but luckily I played Xenoblade and this is a step up.

Wish we had Korean nextgen MMORPG level of customization though

Shulk and the rest of the Xenoblade cast would look fine with Wii U graphics. The characters from X however look like they were made in 5 minutes in an eastern MMO from the previous decade.

Which is interesting, since that's what his wife excels at so much. That said, it's great that Soraya is working on X as well. So excite.

have you finished Xenoblade? If so
we know that Shulk wished for a new world and at the end we see them sitting on a beach with the Bionis Titan half sunk in the ocean,
oh yea i forgot that, i guess with that a planet-sequel makes sense.

Well if XC ending is to be looked at,
the titans were gone after Shulk recreated the world
,

I might even consider this a prequel of some sorts,
the two gods were originally humans from a far too technologically advanced civilization to create a new world and become gods
, but with the Nopon present I think that it continues after the XC timeline
I'm just assuming that Nopon race started as a Bionis' creation
.

That said, can't also wait to play the game to discover the answers!

Yea that makes sense, maybe at some point in the game we met
zanza and the mechonis girl, i forgot her name.

Man i rushed xenoblade 1, but with this game ill go as slow as i can! this looks AMAZING.

This is correct. There's one small plot hole that I hope is worked out (again, Xenoblade ending spoiler):
the X trailer calls it "Earth", and the crashed ship in the gameplay trailer has the words "United States" on it - the world of X appears to have both pre- and post- Zanza elements.

Interesting note regarding X/Xenoblade connections: Tatsu (the nopon in the X trailer) has Bionis-style clothing.

I think Tatsu is a character from the first game. There was an NPC named Tatsu in Frontier Village involved in various sidequests.

60+ hours of gaming you get used to things.

Out of the main party characters; Reyn, Riki and Dunban looked good.
The rest were varying degrees of meh.

Ehhh...I think this will be more in the vein of Gears and Saga than you think. I hope so at least. I just want something at the ambition of Xenogears actually executed well.

Yeah there was, but I don't think this is the same Tatsu. The one in Xenoblade was slow moving and seemed elderly.

Have they even confirmed this is the same universe as the first game? Judging by the opening I assumed Monolith was just turning the Xenoblade name into Nintendo's own Final Fantasy.

I can see him take inspiration from the two to some capacity, but I can't see him go whole hog (same with XB).

That's fair and reasonable; maybe he might some day. :)

What I look forward to the most is taking screenshots of this game.

Kunihiko Tanaka, whose previous works include Xenogears and the first episode of Xenoaga.

Makes sense. They looked like the first Xenosaga characters.

I will def not make my character look like the guys on the treehouse did. lol. Just a standard hairstyle with silver color is not gonna do it.

When I see this one, I keep thinking of Final Fantasy 7. I can't tell if that's good or bad, but it gets me excited. Good!

I'd love to know what the budget is for this game.

Anyone think that the percentage on the Blade Tower refers to how long they can sustain themselves there? The percentage actually dropped from a 60% to a 59% in last year's E3 trailer.

Agreed. It's one of the reasons I love RPG's. Exploring is the best and not only that but sharing what you enjoy with others. =)

Yeah, you're right. I just checked and he was 66 years old in the first game. Also, he was from Colony 6 not Frontier Village. His name in the NA version was changed to Satata. He looks very similar though. Wears the same swirly pattern glasses. I just instantly drew a connect to the first game when I saw him, and I thought that it was a kind of tease indicating that X is connected to the first game somehow.

The game looks so awesome. That treehouse playing shows just how similar it is to Xenoblade, but also how different the whole setting is. More Xenoblade is good and that IGN video shows how awesome the game actually looks :O

I love how fantastical those flying creatures' movements are; it's like they're swimming through the air.

The attention to detail is amazing, they even have shadows down on the ground. I've never seen a game do scale as well as this one. To think it's on the Wii U of all things. Now that Nintendo's got a steady grip on HD development it's gonna be extremely interesting if they can get their shit back together and get on even ground with the next gen consoles in a few years.

If the gap between Nintendo gens and Sony/Microsoft gens wasn't so huge, it wouldn't bother me as much that Nintendo lags behind.

This is what these guys are achieving with the Wii U. I can't even begin to fathom what their next-gen Wii R U game is going to look like.

Not sure what you were expecting, but it looks like an evolution of Xenoblade's combat to me. I take it you haven't played that game?

Haven't played XBX? Correct, I have not played it. Have you?

I finished Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii and put in about 95 hours total.

I wasn't expecting a character creator and I wasn't expecting as much gunplay as I saw in the Treehouse segment. I know Nintendo fans are sensitive but holy shit. There are some aspects that are very familiar to the XB wii game but this spiritual sequel feels more in line with Xenosaga's high tech universe than what was in XB wii(at least for what is shown in the first 3/4 of the game).

Downgrade my ass

That's the first thing I was thinking once I saw the Nintendo TreeHouse video. The whole downgrade thing was a bit of a knee-jerk reaction(accompanied by trolls too).

This scene below was in Last year's trailer, and looks much better now(also changed from to night instead)
xcx05_by_onilink888-d7ly348.gif

I think the confusion(concerning the possibility of a downgrade) came because the new trailer looked way more 'cartoony' than people assumed the game looked prior. Even I thought they might had went for a different rendering style or something, but after looking carefully, you can see that it always had that look. It's just that the seemingly more realistic parts we had seen before weren't as close up as we see now, or the lighting in the environment(like that hangar scene from last year) sometimes hide the shaded look.

But as those gifs show, if anything we are seeing more crisp and detailed sections of areas we had seen prior. There is definitely no downgrade to speak of.

Hey, onilink88, can you gif that scene with the herd of creatures running across the field? That'll be great, thanks!

AHHH I'm just getting more and more excited for this game!

Graphics are perfectly fine, especially as it makes the epic areas + gameplay possible.

February-March would be perfect, I could probably afford a Wii U and the game easily right after my birthday

Gonna try and avoid getting too optimistic though and just assume it'll be the latter half of 2015

The zohar, the mechs, the opening cinematic and storyline... This all screams unofficial Xenogears Ep.1 reimagining to me, with Xenoblade's awesome scope and gameplay.

The guys on treehouse mentioned it was a "spiritual successor" to xenoblade, not an actual sequel. Seems to me like Takahashi went back to its original xeno-verse themes and ideas.

Like I said.
Xenogears Origin story.
Xenosaga style.
Xenoblade world and combat.
That's why it's Xenoblade Cross.
The Cross denotes that it's a mix. Like Project X Zone.

I feel like the Iwata Asks for this game is going to be REALLY interesting :)

Yeah, it does make sense! I almost can't believe we're getting this game...

I was so glad when I checked NeoGAF after watching the Digital Event video because when I saw Xenoblade Chronicles and the red X, I thought the X was a logo and Xenoblade Chronicles was the name of the game! I was trying to wrap my head around "Okay, so is it like, a parallel game to the other Xenoblade Chronicles? Or is it the realization of the concept Monolithsoft had in mind and Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii was just a prototype of what they were really going to do?" Then I found out about how the "X" symbol can be used for "Cross" in Japanese lol So it's called Xenoblade Cross.

Having played every single one of Takahashi's X games, if this is the one that all of his goals and ambitions culminate to, this will be something very special. Taking the best parts of all his previous works and finally making the epic he's wanted to. Oooh boy.
