I just picked up a perfect condition copy for ~38 USD. I am taking the earlier advice to drop everything and play through the game! Playing on the Wii U, it looks surprisingly good.
awesome1 dont be shy to tell us your progress.

Yeah... Nah. I'd never have the time to finish a game like that.

300 hours to 100%, sure. If the world is actually as big and open as it's hyped up to be, I can see it taking hundreds of hours to do absolutely everything. I'm going to remain slightly skeptical about the actual openness and scale for now though.
150 for first Xenoblade. Yup 300 hours seems about right for this one....

That 2nd image brings out that huge mountain cliff in the distance. But they never said anything about it in the demo.

In fact, they were really aggressive with the game. I only saw those 2 Treehouse videos and the IGN one

Started up my second Xenoblade playthrough and I'm amazed at how many sidequests there are in the first town alone (I skipped them all first time through).

So the quests you get from nameless NPCs are just material or kill quests while the ones you get from named NPCs are a little more in-depth.

I wish they were less in amount or were only limited to the named NPCs. I get that it's to get easy XP, but I just grinded instead.

one of the games in recent times that structured it well was XIII-2. The actual quests were sort of just defeat monster, but the plot of it related back to the lore/world in some way, which was neat.

I should have been clear...300 hours for completing everything lol.

I finished Xenoblade in 160 hours with practically 100% complete on 1st playthrough (didn't count all the side quests I did but reading some wikis after the 1st playthrough looks like the only things I missed were branching quests). The thing that made Xenoblade long is not really the scale of the world but how much you can do inside it. So with a larger scale, we can probably expect more towns, more NPCs, more unique monsters and good amount of secret areas.

I sure hope so. Even if it takes 300 game hours to finish the game in a single playthrough I will really be super duper fine with it!

dont tell me about it. The more this game lasts, the better, the game world already won me over multiple times and I absolutely cannot wait to roam around pointlessly just uncovering new areas

Oh, I just notice there's a second Tree house footage and IGN gameplay footage, no other analystGAF here? D:

I think there's 2 from Treehouse, then one for Gamespot, then one for IGN. Haven't watched the IGN one yet though. And to think that a week before e3 I was thinking all we'd get is a trailer in a Nintendo Direct :-p

Oh yeah, I noticed that some of the enemies in this game seem to be able to "lurch" at you rather quickly (those boss monsters before Neo LA), and I can't remember any that could do that in Xenoblade. And you can sort of dodge the enemies too, or run and slide out of the way? I think I noticed something like that.

it seem that they hinted a few times someone is already living on the planet they crashed on

also I wonder if the Nopon's came from Earth with them or is one of the species already living on this planet

1000 hours for a complete 100% playthrough.
An additional 500 hours of online multiplayer quests.

I predict a lot of people will be disappoint when this game has no online

but if they could fit in a monster hunter like questing to take down some rare giants that would add a very different feel to this game

Some of my favorite cut-scenes -- all spoilers:

Setting out for Revenge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRLnrJ4f-UU

Dunban saying he'll be right behind them as soon as his wound heals. Freaking epic.

Prison Island Cutscene - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHvB46EvvAo&index=179&list=PLpVpBRIlzWuBqK0aHV1wbKGZSs4D1rTdd

The Hope of the High Entia - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJWnpVCKr3k&index=128&list=PLpVpBRIlzWuC6e1Gk8dmexn4zFk1UiWzi

Also, damn these 2 commercials for spoiling some huge things in the game:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTxMnKZMkLM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JL9-5vbyQjA

Watching those videos made me decide to play xenoblade again, i hate you!
i dont, but my gf might

I'm suprised no long gameplay videos came out for Nintendo Japan's Youtube channel

they seem to push it more in the west

I want a field trailer showing all the areas the same way they spoiled Xenoblade with that extensive field trailer showing most areas

Did Xenoblade end up selling less in Japan than the west?

Zelda Wii U is quite comfortable playing second fiddle to this, come 2015. If not... I sorry, hon. But you're mistress tier, now.

Between the possible chat box in the original reveal, the customizable protagonist, and Xenoblade being the only game on Nintendo's E3 site that says "Players:TBD," I think there's a decent chance.

Believe

this is why I said a lot of people are going to be disappointed because a lot of people have been expecting this since day 1 reveal

you made some great points as to why this must have online elements though

I still think it's possible that X is solely singleplayer, and I'd be more than fine with that since I loved Xenoblade. From what we know so far, though, I think there are enough details to support the speculation about X having some sort of multiplayer element.

If it is entirely optional, and does not serve to detract from the single player experience in any manner... sure, why NOT incorporate it?

Watching gameplay video in Feb direct and tree house demo, I don't think online is needed for this game. Do those who want multiplayer really played Xenoblade?

Maybe the demons and beast men are the two races that destroyed earth, and Nopon are the race native to Mira.

That's very possible. Since one of the beast-men is seen piloting a mech alongside the humans, I'm willing to bet at least one of them are. The trailer, however, seems to indicate that the game will deal with very heavy nihilistic themes (surprise, surprise) and it would seem like such wasted potential to not have some sort of conflict between us planet colonizing humans and the natural inhabitants of Mira.

As far as the Nopon go, I'm kinda hoping there aren't going to be a lot of them this time around. With Tatsu being maybe a special case, explained as a sort of space-time anomaly as an homage to Xenoblade. I just don't see the point in revisiting another Nopon village unless there is some kind of new spin on it.

a monster hunter mode to hunt unique high level monsters online would be fine
but I am against taking away from an epic single player mode

at a point a lot of people were saying this might be an MMO

do not want

I don't even have this game yet and already found a goal I want to do.

See that weird mountain range in the background in this image?

If you look to the left of it there appears to be some circular shaped floating islands. Well I want to see what is on those islands.

First chance I get my Mech, I'm going see If I can fly and land on it.

Going by the most recent trailer and the opening of the game, it's definitely going to have a massive storyline focus like all of the Xeno games so you shouldn't have to worry.

it is the closest thing to base

Iwata seemed to imply that Mechs come in much later point of the game, I hope not

but you know it might not hurt to try to walk up there and take a look from the hanging sky cliff that is very close to the tiny islands

might want to walk up there run pass all enemies before going to the NEO LA gates

That I do! I just realized he also composed Attack on Titan and Guilty Crown OST as well, so my hopes have skyrocketed.

Anyone just getting into Hiroyuki needs to hear his Ao no Exorcist OST. It's essential primer material, and the best demonstration of his range.

As big a fan as I am of Hiroyuki, he's got a lot to live up to with X, coming off of Xenoblade's compositions. Luckily, the bit I've heard is ON POINT.

Just wondering - and being incredibly pessimistic - is the desert area of the gif the same area as the forest (be it unfinished) on the picture? Their structure does seem to be comparable for a bit.

Both locations were shown off in last year's E3 trailer so they're probably separate from each other. They both have the giant rings in the background, though, so they seem to connect where the rings are on the map.

A question for Xenoblade lovers - am I alone in thinking the final quarter of the game is dull?
I'm talking more gameplay-wise. Obviously the few hours of cutscenes are epic as the gods, but running through Mechonis, which is a pretty flat and ugly environment full of set paths and hallways, flicking switches, backtracking, going in circles, fetch 3 items to open a path, elevators... It's got to be the most boring thing possible. Not to mention this is around 50 hours already so you're already very well versed in all the mechanics and having to grind makes it even more painful.

This was the point in my playthrough when I stopped playing and switched to a youtube walkthrough. I'm watching it again now and I'm really enjoying the glorious story and being able to skip the travelling between tedious boss and mid-boss battles.

I really felt like it was a huge contrast to the early game. The environments were more fascinating, and the story quests really made you feel like you were doing something meaningful with your time. Perhaps it was just because it was fresh.

Should I have given it the chance?

I think some people share your sentiment, but since you didn't play it yourself, you're a blasphemer and should be ashamed.

went into Wii Mode to check my save files

can't play tonight because I have no batteries for my Wiimote wish WiiU allowed Pro controller or gamepad controls :(

edit: my collectipidia has two sections missing 1 item to get 100% :(

I think when you find a section boring you should use a guide to get it done with asap until you can get to a better part of the game you like

I did not have much issue with that section the backtracking caused me to search around a bit but I was also looking to complete my collection to unlock stuff so it did not hurt to find some of the hidden out of the way stuff in that area

Man, there is a big spoiler in your pic.

EDIT: Guys, sorry for the pic quote...I tried to warn fast and didn't see that I replied with the pic....XD

Smiles and Cries, you may want to hide your picture in a spoiler.
balgajo, you should remove the pic.

Edit: Nevermind, you dealt with it. On a side note, Xenoblade isn't that old. It's not like FF7, whose plot twists are known by everyone at this point.

Now we see if balgajo returns.

That always makes me laugh when I see it.

(by that I mean someone complaining about a spoiler yet they quote the same spoiler so it doesn't even matter if the person removes it).

After doing a ton of sidequests I hope they somehow streamline or make it easier to do sidequests. Finding people at random times of the day sucks if you forgot where you first met them. Also more meaningful quests with story bits and less "go here and kill 3 enemies" type quests.

I don't mind the ones that call for you to defeat Unique Monsters though.

Well, thinking about it, he could just as easily be the only Nopon on Mira. Nopon are a race of traders and scientists after all, so maybe he somehow managed to come to the planet to study it or something.

The ending of the trailer make him look like a stowaway. So my guess is he managed to get in the spaceship when the earth gets destroyed. But that would mean than the nopon were living on earth and I doubt bionis and mechonis were places on earth...
