If you activate chain attack at the moment the vision comes true, all your members will survive with 1 HP if they are attacked. Highest tension level also means higher hit chance in this battle.
Knew the 2nd one, but the 1st is news!

Which is amazing considering how many hours I've played Xenoblade...

Yeah I'm re-discovering how good Xenoblade's combat is now that I'm trying different party combinations instead of Shulk/Reyn/Sharla all game.

I'm hoping we'll be seeing the same thing in Xenoblade X since everyone has different class trees.

I didn't use that combo all game but I never really controlled Reyn nor Riki and Sharla. Melia though, is who I mained for all the Unique Monsters above level 100. Summon Earth for poison and defense for the win and a damn long battle. Against Avalanche Abassy her reflect would come in handy against the knockdown tail swing. I think for that battle I used Sharla and Dunban. I think Sharla was always necessary for me but I know lots of people get by without healing.

It's like the lamest team in the game, playing aggressively makes Xenoblade more enjoyable. Shulk/Dunban/Speedy Seven is the best team IMO, chain attack all the way.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is pretty hype. I'm really looking forward to the mechs in an open world environment. Restarted on Xenoblade right now. Level 22 at Colony 6's mine. I haven't played the game in a long time, and the combat seems new to me all over again. It's addictive.

I'm really hoping that XCX will have a better camera for god's sake. The first game's camera is awkward as hell often.

Melia I'm just starting to use now but since I just got her again she doesn't have a lot of the arts I see people mention as being essential/needed to be useful. My main party so far is Dunban/Shulk/Reyn.

Yeah, it's actually pretty crazy how fast the party gauge builds up when you ditch Sharla for someone who can do damage.

It's too bad they didn't demonstrate any of the different classes but the arts they've shown so far look pretty cool. I noticed Elma had one where she slides forward along the ground while shooting which goes through enemies. I guess this might be useful for getting behind enemies quickly when you don't have aggro.

I want to share a couple songs from Hiroyuki Sawano that aren't from anime:

Seek Your Fate -From BOX. Pretty epic.

Black and Blue Room I love the violin in this song. Beautiful song.

GracE Lively acoustic guitar stuff. Fitting for a game country town song that's bustling, methinks. Maybe something like this will play in a village full of Riki's people.

Oblivion- ・ Male ・ Expiation ・ Nightmare Now this is the opposite of the song above. Fitting maybe for a game town full of evil/slaves/disease or something of a dark nature.

80$$ The new 'Riki' Theme song? Sounds fitting for a comedy scene involving the fluffy puff ball for the new Xenoblade. Love the variety and how all the instruments come together for this song.

BLOOD A boss battle theme! Let's fight!!

Sawano's done some amazing work for a ton of live action drama's and movies in Japan. With Gundam Unicorn he seems to have hit it big with people and got a whole lot more attention. He's done some anime before Unicorn, but now after Attack on Titan and Kill La Kill all becoming very popular and gaining him much more attention, he'll probably be doing most of his new work for anime. He's already working on a big new anime show that'll be airing next month.

I'm really happy he's doing a game though. I've always wanted to hear him do a game, and for a big budget release no less. I've got high hope for Xenoblade Chronicles X. I wasn't much of a fan of the first game on Wii, but Sawano's involvement with this just makes me so hyped. I hope the game rocks.

Now to end this post with this lovely song from Taiyou no Uta:

From Sunset to Sunrise Beautiful!

I can't wait to hear more of the soundtrack for X, seriously, the wait is excruciating. The small snippet heard during the Treehouse demo and the trailers were really good. I love good game soundtracks, and Xenoblade's was god-tier.

Here is a battle of a level 44 party Vs. Mischievous Nebarius. What sorcery is this?!?!

Holy shit! I was clearly playing Xenoblade wrong.

Oh man, in Chuggaconroy's playthrough of xenoblade, he just got to the big early twist of the game
the death of Fiora
and reading the reactions in the comments is so good, I forgot how much of a impact that had on me and how I really NEEDED the game after that.

I need this game now. I don't even have a Wii or Wii U to play it on but I thought about going to gamestop and buying a $50 copy just to have for when I do. I love how he never talks over the serious cutscene stuff too. It would have ruined what was otherwise powerful scene.

It's amazing how it took only a couple hours for me to care about the characters though.

Yeah the characters in xenoblade are all very likeable and have their own arcs
edit: by characters I mean the party members.

Yesssssssss Sawano shines brighter outside the usual mentions of anime.

After hearing the A Song to the Sun soundtrack, I'm much more optimistic for the breadth of X's score. The combination of understated strings, solid melodic progression, elegant background vocals and lovely solo trumpet/sax work probably make it my favourite of his soundtracks.

In the context of the previous game, I could easily see "Blowing" as the theme of a Gaur Plains-esque area, "Bloom" playing in a Nopon village, or the piano / strings version of From Sunset to Sunrise playing over one of the many scenes of the narrative furiously masturbating over Shulk.

I really don't think Xenoblade Cross can top Xenoblade in music. Maybe it's because most of the Sawano's works are from anime/TV drama, there's always "plots" in his music. I'd like to see him do cutscene/boss fight music, but not field/normal battle. I doubt he can make field theme better than Gaur Plains or Satorl Marsh. Well, the game's still too far away, maybe I'll change my mind after I play it. :P

Made another gif.

First thing I'm doing when I get a flying mech is going straight to those floating isles.

...where you'll probably find LVL44 enemies that will one shot you :p
lol I look forward to that!

I don't know if this has been discussed here yet. I'm sure it has in the past, but why is IGN ignoring this game?
In their Best of E3 2014 list (which is an awful list), they only make note of it once.
They never even publish any articles on it or give it the time of day. I think it's bizarre the lack of attention this game is getting despite all that the last game got.

They had a live stage demo of it. That's all I remember.

Assuming you're probably going to want Xenoblade Chronicles X in 2015, you should probably get a Wii U. Then you can play both on it, simple economics.

I wonder how big this map really is... we've seen another content or another island in this game already but the big question is what haven't we seen yet? Can you go underwater? Hopefully the exploration is near endless. :D

All I know is, seeing those "inaccessible without a mech" areas is giving me all sorts of DQVIII feels. This is the natural evolution of the JRPG into the JRPG with MMO scale. It boggles the mind. And my mind likes this boggling.

You probably won't have enough fuel at first to even land there. :P

To be honest, the idea to fly through a huge world with a mech is super cool, but at the same time it also really worries me. If you count Xenogears, Takahashi and/or Monolith have done 4 games with mech combat ... and it never really worked all that well. I hope they'll be able to pull it off this time around...

It's not like the press ignoring Nintendos games besides zelda/mario/pokemon would be a new thing... (and calling them out for making sequel after sequels afterwards..)

just look at how much coverage stuff like splatoon got, despite being a fan favourite.
It wasn't even nominated for IGNs "biggest e3 surprise", instead they nominated stuff like "Conker in Project: Spark"

maybe this is some kind of chicken-egg thing:

the gaming press ignoring Nintendo stuff leads to Nintendo doing their Treehouse leads to more ignoring... who knows.

It probably doesn't help that Xenoblade X was only playable in Japanese. That's kind of a huge obstacle. :P

Edit: Actually, was it even playable at all on the show floor or did it only get those gameplay presentations as seen on Treehouse, the IGN stream etc?

Yeah only TreeHouse got to play it. Which is good because how do you demo a game like Cross with the Press playing?

My guess is the early mechs won't be flying. If I remember correctly, we saw a ground vehicle transformation in the first trailer, so you might be limited to only where you can drive at the start. Seems like an interesting angle.

That makes sense. Or perhaps flying uses more fuel so the vehicle mode is more efficient for travel.

I suspect fuel won't be much of a concern later in the game, which is probably where the epic air battles will happen (will be amazing if they have space battles too).

Yeah, I really hope for underwater exploration in this game, even if the only way to do this is by the use of dolls. It will really expand the world by a huge amount just for the areas and enemies you can discover in deep seas.

It seems like we've only been shown one location that isn't from the beginning of the game (assuming it isn't some crazy section of the desert).

Aside from that we've only seen the starting field, Neo Los Angeles, and the desert. Since the desert looks like it's next to the starting field, it's probably the very next location you explore.

That means we've pretty much only seen the first 3 areas in the game. That's a bit like seeing nothing after Gaur Plains in Xenoblade.

Pretty sure it's the same area as what's in your pic but I think this photo shows that it isn't a section of the desert, assuming they're the same area.

1. Sounds fun. No reason not to like it really.
2. Hmm, I liked how easy it was in Xenoblade, but I'm assuming they restricted it to ease up all the loading of assets.
3. Could be interesting, especially if it acts as an incentive to Level Up certain stats.
4. So-so, although I hear the best parties in Xenoblade 1 didn't rely on healing. Plus, as mentioned, it's possible the healing techs/methods just weren't shown.
5. Not enough shown/don't understand to comment : P

TP is a resource required for several arts. It’s essentially another restriction on using your arts in addition to the cooldown and is refilled by auto-attacking. It is also used for resurrecting others like the Party Gauge in Xenoblade. TP recovery seems independent of building up your “second cooldown” for arts. Those have different requirements for filling up and depend on the art (e.g. second cooldown for ranged arts only fill up when you are using ranged attacks). So auto-attacking fills up your TP and some of your second cooldowns, but not all of them. The “Soul Stage” (visually similar to the party gauge but orange) looks to work like tension in the previous games. They didn’t go into too much detail but apparently you get buffs/heals whenever you increase your soul stage, which is done through those timed B button prompts that they referred to as "Soul Voice"

1.GREAT I love monster hunter because it gives me the opportunity of deciding how I want to approach. Cripple him of attacks or rush the highest dmg points? I imagine that one pig monster won't be able to use head charge when his crest breaks and those bosses won't be able to use tail stab or be off balance after charging/jumping. I love this.
2.Kind of bad, but they seem to have like a "capsule". Immersion? idk.
3.Bad, but it makes sense thinking about the whole "can actually hit level 45 monsters". Imagine if you could cheese some of the monsters like you could in Xenoblade with Melia's spear break insta-kill at level 27 to a lvl 90 monster and get a super OP set of weapons for the rest of the game. I believe it's a trade off between being able to really challenge oneself with these higher level enemies but not being able to cheese and break the rest of the game. Kind of like in MMO's, a level 200 player could just drop something for a level 1 guy to use and if it had no level restrictions? Game broken. This becomes increasingly important if they are going to implement online down the line so I see it as more of a necessary control at this point.
4. I imagine we'll get new ways to heal, just that the 2 characters shown have no real defensive arts.
5.So-so. This one's REALLY mixed for me. I like the idea of more resource management but if TP can only be restored during battle or via menus, it would force me to use menus that I don't want to constantly scroll through. Xenoblade's battle system might have been pretty simple, but had a sense of beauty to its simplicity.

We still don't have a lot of info about this game.

This is a good point. I’m hoping there isn’t anything as abusable as Melia’s spear break anyhow. If there is, I’ll just ignore it. I never put spear break on Melia’s art palette for that reason. I actually played most of the game without using break/topple/daze and mained Riki. I don’t mind restrictions if it balances the game and makes it more enjoyable.

I wasn’t sure how I felt about TP either at first. Having more resources to manage seems like a departure from Xenoblade’s relatively light resource mangament, but I think TP is just a joining of the Party Gauge and Talent Gauge and not an additional resource. The Party Gauge didn’t need to be full at the start of every battle, and I imagine TP is the same. TP is probably there for balance reasons. Not ALL arts require TP, and the ones that do are probably much more powerful.

There isn’t a lot we know about the game. We don’t even know how mechas work, but I just liked looking at all the changes they made to the combat system.

There is healing.
You get healing arts. But they only work on yourself.
Which is good. That way you don't need a dedicated healer like in Xenoblade (of which, only Sharla was any good at it).

Yeah, sorry, this is correct. They mention self-healing in the treehouse demo and showed a heal tech in the gameplay demo released earlier this year. It is a bit strange not being able to heal others though. You can no longer play as the traditional tank/dps/healer setup. Not that it was needed, but it is an interesting indication of the direction they’re moving towards with X. Buffing and shielding other characters are still in, so there is some level of support just not healing. I know I may be in the minority, but I actually used Sharla quite a bit. Especially for tougher fights. I tried doing a few fights underleveled, so she was immensely useful. I remember doing Riki’s
fifth skill tree quest
about 16-17 levels below the boss with riki/reyn/sharla and she was invaluable in the fight. I sometimes even mained Sharla and played the role of healer for fun.

That giant lava monster that is about 20 times the size of your mech would do that if it was aggressive.

Man, you're right. I can't wait to fight some of these giant foes in my mech. (Or run away scared shitless)

Didn't the characters in xenoblade fall down like Charlie Chaplin?

Xenoblade's characters definitely had a "peculiar" way of falling.

Bonus: And flying up as well

Possible "Abandon Thread" gif?

I also can't wait to fly around in a mech but I seriously doubt you can just fly anywhere then. Wouldn't that put away any challenge to discover new areas? There will be surprises what new locations you can see. Really giddy. :)

Well I guess it depends on when you get the mechs. If you get them later in the game then flying anywhere wouldn't be a problem. Also, there could be certain areas that the mechs can't fly because of something in the air or magentic fields or something. There will be ways to limit where the mechs can go no doubt.

Fuel could also be a problem. If you have to visit a refueling station in order to refuel, it may be possible that certain areas will simply be too far to reach within range of a station. That could change later in the game. That sort of thing. Possibilities are endless.

I really like the design of these guys. Just something about the way they move.

Can't wait to see more of the creature design later in the game that we haven't seen in the earlier trailers. Hoping for stuff that's maybe even bigger than that giant lava monster.

Of course! You'll take on this thing with your mech party eventually.

If that part does make it in the final game.

the beginning area looks noticeably bigger to me than any single area in Xenoblade.

kinda leads me to believe the game will be a handful of really enormous areas as opposed to a dozen large zones that Xenoblade has

Something I noticed while watching some footage, when using Battlecry (ability that draws enemies toward you) if your character has a gun equipped, they fire it into the air to get the enemies attention.

Makes me wonder if this, or any other move will have different animations depending on what type of weapon your character has.
