Xenoblade X (Cross) releasing in 2015 (Xenoblade Chronicles X in the US)

In anticipation of this (And part of my replays for all the big RPGs i'm looking forward to next year) i decided to do a brand new play through of Xenoblade but in Dolphin this time.

Wow, 1080p Xenoblade (Without the texture packs either, strictly the normal game) is beautiful. It scales up so well and i haven't even gotten to the places that visually pop yet (Can't wait to hit areas like Gaur Plains, Makna Forest and Sartorl Marsh at night).

I really want to play this, but I never played the original. I hope I won't be too lost when the sequel appears.

This is a game that could really use an HD Remake.

From the little i've replayed in Dolphin so far, abso freaking lutely.

Just watched the entire Day 1 treehouse demo -- I've never seen the whole thing before. My god. That first area looks great and I can't wait to explore it. Especially seeing the highest point -- I want to go there...while I'm still below level 10! I didn't know about the class systems and how the combat has evolved either. The story is very intriguing as well -- the scale of which seems to be bigger -- more on a Xenosaga level -- just going by the introduction; whereas Xenoblade was more on a character level. I just hope they're able to have compelling characters this time around too, because this this you create your own character.

Anyway, I was watching the treehouse footage again and if there's one thing I realized is that I absolutely love the way monolith positions the camera in their cutscenes. The entrance into neo la in particular caught my attention.

I know it doesn't seem like much but I just really like the way the camera pans up slightly to see the giant tower with the moon looming behind it and the music that plays while they walk. You can hear a bit of it here with the treehouse guys talking over it of course.

Yup, I love the Xeno team.

OK ALL!!! I will give it more than an hour lol! Might grow in me as i keep playing, i never know.... lol

Maybe it will :)

And hey, even if it doesn't, don't worry about it. Maybe it's just not really your kind of game. It's one of my all time favs but I can completely understand if some people don't like it. Same goes for any game really.

Anyway, how you would describe it then? "Action turn-based RPG" ? Because its nowhere close to be a simple action adventure game.

Just one more thing about this: Simply don't put the words "turn-based" in there. It's menu-based real-time combat. There are no turns. Nobody will jump at you if you just don't call it turn-based :) ...since turn-based means something very specific and doesn't apply here.

Xenoblade is a menu-based action RPG, if you want to avoid using terms like "MMO-style" since that is incredibly vague and requires prior knowledge about what MMO-style means and hence isn't a very good descriptor.

Sounds great! At least (!) play until you reach Gaur Plains and meet another party member.

Make sure to watch the Day 2 demo as well!

Ok. So now i have given it an about 3hours trying, where the main story line drive you into the cavern after you touch the sword and see the flash. I went there, reach the part with the like larva thing on the ground and the big one show up. Got destroyed and i just said, ok this game is not for me.

I tried guys, i tried.....

Its an offline MMO imo. I can say that. But god i left mmo gaming for like nearly 2 years now, and i really dont miss that. Playing an offline game similar to it, well, give me the same feeling.

GOD i would have loved play this game like 5 years ago. Seriously. I would have left WoW until i beat it.

But this style now just doesnt get my interest at all....

Im sad....

I thank you for that answer. Will try to use this term in the future.

High-five my friend! If you don't like it after you've gotten to colony six, then you have every right not to like the game!

EDIT: Okay looks like you didn't make it... You're still in tutorial mode though, but if you hate it then you hate it. There's so, so much more to the game.

Geez Nintendo of Australia, it's nearly been half a year since E3 and the treehouse footage of XCX still is nowhere to be seen on the Eshop.

I tried. Seriously. I like the story part about the sword, and it seem to evolve and love that part. I love the fact that there seem to be much things to do, side-quests, trading, the skill systems, everything in there make me feel i am playing an offline MMO.

BUT!

Im tired of that. I have spend years of my life playing Everquest and WoW since the beginning, the MMO genre just made me sick after looking at it for 30 minutes. Xenoblade seem a mix between that, similar to KOTOR, but you control a bit more of the action. The last MMO like game i enjoyed, but honestly never finish because at one point i got tired about it, was Kingdom of Amalur. It was feeling more action orientated, and that what maybe got my attention.

The sad part honestly, is that i know im missing maybe the best game in this genre, not because i dont want to play it, but because the type of game doesnt make me happy anymore. And it really suck because i look at all the videos of Xenoblade Chronicles X, and it just look so amazing....

NoE won't upload it because they don't want to subtitle 30 minutes in 4+ languages :)

I guess i can see that being a hassle (Even though that really shouldn't be considering how they should be promoting this game anyway possible) but Nintendo of Australia has no excuse. They don't even have to subtitle it :/ *sigh*

“Xenoblade Chronicles X is the first HD project for Monolith Soft, so instead of setting a number of hard-to-achieve targets, we are working on steadily building up key skills. Our goal with this game is first to lay the groundwork for [our] HD game development, so as to not overreach ourselves and cause problems.”

This is them laying groundwork for HD development...... Damm lol.

So, maybe a sequel to a well-received game using many of the same battle mechanics is just the title to accomplish that. Save the fresh IP for when they have have a more solid handle on HD game development.

First things first - you should never ever have to 'try' to play a game. Games are for fun and if you're not having fun, there's no reason to feel bad about it :)

Having said that, Xenoblade is miles away from any MMO. I hate MMO's with a passion, I can't stand them and I never touch them. I had my initial misgivings about the battle system - I wanted to control the characters directly, same as you. A bit further into the game, that desire does come to fruition.

I'm serious

lol. I mean, some people have more respect for their time than you. If you don't like the battle system, then playing for ten hours won't make you like it. I'm going to play XCX in spite of the battle system, not because I feel all that strongly about it.

I've actually wondered what other genre Monolith Soft would want to try their hand at and whether they would or continue to tell the tale of the world of Xenoblade (Not that i want them to stop of course, if they want to do that then they by all means should continue). I've never played Disaster Day of Crisis so anyone who has feel free to correct me if i'm wrong on this but that and Xenoblade are almost at completely different ends of the spectrum.

I wonder if we will have another look at this game soon

8 hour Treehouse stream would have room for a good 30 minutes

Gameplay footage would be nice, but I think it'll be the same as the last time so I'm not expecting anything new.

If they show a new trailer and a release date on the other hand.....

There will be no release dates for any of the 2015 stuff. Why would there be? Seriously, why even bring it up? Nintendo is still Nintendo. They don't announce release dates over half a year off. Makes no sense.

Who knows, it might be released 1Q of 2015. BELIEVE.

Well, if you watch their Treehouse stuff, they're just blurting out release dates or surprise releases like it's not news. So there's a very small chance, but at least a chance :p

Come on man, if you're gonna "try" to get into a game like this, you don't judge it by watching the opening credits. He knew this wasn't Tetris, right? This isn't even a half-hearted attempt. And my time is very precious, with a one and a three year old, running around a house that still needs plenty of renovating. Well, his loss. But if time is so precious, he shouldn't be wasting his own, and that of other people here, lol. Seriously though, what enemies has he encountered at this point? What story lines have been revealed? Both gameplay and story get a lot more engaging going forward.

So is X going to have the same gameplay is Xenoblade? Is the story stuff also written by the same person/people?

From what little I've seen of X, it looked quite interesting, but I thought Xenoblade was rather bland and unbearable.

Takahashi said he wasn't even applying himself with the story of Xenoblade.

Yeah, it look better than any MMO out there honestly, but i think im just atm in more action-adventure games, or maybe getting a bit tired of RPG in general. Patch 2.1 for Diablo 3 is out, and i havent even started downloading the patch , kind of just realize that...

Maybe i will hold it and play it again in a few month, might have a different feeling about it then. I think i wont sell it and just wait for the right moment for me to try it again.

This game will get some awesome Limited Edition(s)
in EU and Japan

can't wait. Xenoblade Chronicles was my fav RPG in the last 10 years.
I finished it 2 times and clocked hundret of hours. Maybe I will play through it a 3rd time before X'es release.

30+ hours into my Dolphin replay and i remember this lol.

How does the transition from Makna Forest to the Eryth sea even work?

It's something that hasn't made sense to me since my first playthrough of Xenoblade and still doesn't make sense in this one.

In the opening video you dive into Eryth Sea and end up in Makna Forest, you also head up from Makna Forest to the Eryth Sea after you first meet Melia. Unless i'm mistaken that would mean that the Eryth sea is above Makna forest meaning Makna forest should be underwater then yet it's significantly higher than the river that flows through it. A river that is fed by a waterfall from somewhere that is not the Eryth sea considering that the Eryth sea is hemmed in by sheer rock walls/cliffs on every side.

I sure hope XCX's transitions aren't as dubious although the Makna Forest to Eryth sea one is the only one that i remember for now from Xenoblade.

I think Eryth Sea is held aloft between those protrusions from the Bionis' head/shoulders, above Makna Forest on its back. The sea is kept in place in defiance of physics by
the requirements of the script
.

I suppose you could argue that on a non-spherical world like the Bionis gravity might be all over the shop.

The way to Eryth Sea goes up through the Noppon tree via this magic water portal and you seemingly arrive at the beach by going that route. In the transitional cutscene it looks like the sky above the portal is made of water which would mean it could be Eryth Sea itself but then it would be weird, though you can't dive, iirc? So you couldn't possibly check the sea itself if it's lacking a floor?
yogpw73lsgd.gif

oknrpn2qqfv.gif

So it does indeed seem like Eryth Sea's waterbed is directly above the Frontier Village tree area in Makna Forest (a bit to the side, so not covering the entire area 1:1) and the only way to go from one to the other is via this magic water portal that brings you through the sea itself and lands you in the water/at the beach. And flying up around it, I guess.

As you can see here, the waterfall area is under open sky:

At the same time, though, the Makna Forest vistas from far away show the big tree under open sky as well so everything's just weird. Maybe there's a waterbed directly above the tree acting as the actual portal and it's not really physically above the area? lol I don't know anymore. Seems maybe they had to cut a transitional area or something and futzed this transition together late in development?

The previous poster was correct. Eryth sea is suspended in the "antlers" of the BIonis, behind it's head. There is no physical seabed to Eryth sea. It doesn't make physical sense, but then the Bionis is a giant living world, and it's a game. It doesn't need to make sense.

If you look directly up in Makna Forest, you can see the bottom of Eryth sea. It's got some major shimmering going on, and it's a really nice moment when you realise that it's water you're looking at and not the sky. If you look into the horizon of Makna forest, you can see the true sky, then the "antler" ridge, then the Eryth sea.

In fact, a smaller version of this same phenomenon can be seen in Frontier Village. If you head up to the prophecy hut, and look straight up, you can see water suspended above you. This is the bottom of the small pool that sits on the top of the Frontier Village tree, where the portal to the Eryth sea is.

How do you mean above open sky?

Or do you mean underneath open sky as you can jump into and swim in the water dumped from the waterfall.

Actually Reyn says or thinks something similar about whether you can dive down to Makna although Dunban's response makes it seem impossible lol. Was it ever determined where the Bionis shoulder linked to, maybe that could be the transitional area you speak of.

A sea suspended in the air......

Well anything is possible i guess in a game with its world built on two beings lol. Although the next question i guess is how the gravity of the Bionis overrides the gravity of whatever holds the endless sea in order to suspend the Eryth sea.

The previous poster was correct. Eryth sea is suspended in the "antlers" of the BIonis, behind it's head. There is no physical seabed to Eryth sea. It doesn't make physical sense, but then the Bionis is a giant living world, and it's a game. It doesn't need to make sense.

Wait what, i know what i'm going to be looking at when i start playing again.

Seems maybe they had to cut a transitional area or something and futzed this transition together late in development?

It seems pretty clear from the way this part of the game works that there's a missing area, and I would guess that's what the Bionis' Shoulder area hidden on the disc was originally going to be.

I might just make this my avatar

You could just let it go and join the Xeno ride when Xenocross hits. I have no doubts that it's going to be a stronger game with a more developed story and a far more interesting battle system.

That's awesome considering he's using Reyn as main.

I still am proud with me beating
Avalanche Abaasy with a 30-level gap using Shulk, Riki and Sharla
and
one on one with Despotic Arsene using Melia.

How do people do this? When I play, if I attack anything more than a couple of levels ahead I can never even land a hit, every attack misses. Whats the secret to attacking higher level monsters?

Accuracy (yours and the enemies') is determined by the agility stat. The game does scale stats, but you can overcome that with skill links and gems. Especially in the post-game, things like Night Vision VI and Agility VI allow you to hit enemies much higher level than you without much trouble.

Honestly, your skills/links and equipment matters a lot more than level. I beat the strongest superboss at level 55 (huge spoilers in that video and even more in the related ones).

Accuracy and evasion are dictated by agility. Higher agility means better chances of landing a hit, as well as better chances of evading attacks from opponents. Focus on improving the agility of your party to have a better chance of beating higher-leveled enemies.

Another method is to use ether attacks. They have better hit rate than physical attacks, even against higher-leveled enemies that have good agility advantage. This is where Melia and Riki become really useful.

There was a transitional area that got cut because it was too much like Gaur Plains: http://xenoblade.wikia.com/wiki/Bionis'_Shoulder

Hoping it gets added back in on the New 3DS port.
