So... Xenoblade?
The only things they have in common are Xeno in the title... what a fucking shit post.
So... Xenoblade?
No. We want a good game. Not a poorly paced Wii game with mindless grinding and bloat that doesn't get around to telling you shit until it's final few hours.
Xeno 1 doesn't withstand the test of time at all. 6/10.
Ok. If I don't like it I'm coming for you.Star Ocean 2 style would be perfect.
For those who haven't played that, you should! Best HD-2D game ever.
From what I understand KOS-MOS is in Xenoblade Chronicles X. Would Monolith have had to gotten permission from Bandi to do that? The only things they have in common are Xeno in the title... what a fucking shit post.

I also remember seeing Fei somewhere in the Xenosaga series although he was not actually named from what I recall.

Also one of the things about Xenogears being incomplete was that it had a lot of soft lock moments. You had to have a secondary save file in an place where you can grind to avoid that. Some bosses were rutheless.Funny thing is, by that point I was so engrossed in the storyline that I actually preferred that, because it was story/dungeon/story/dungeon and didn't waste time with filler or side quests. I was so utterly desperate to see what was going to happen that I was fleeing from random encounters in order to save time, until I reached that Miang boss fight where she totally annihilated my party and couldn't progress. I had to grind and train to make up for lost xp. And I did it again for the final battle (I sucked back then at strategic play, and didn't play the battles 'correctly').
Star Ocean 2R is a little different from HD-2D, it doesn't use the "seal" of being one of them, it's like a different idea. But yeah, Xenogears could totally work on that way. The problem is that Xenogears have an free camera and that means a lot more of work. Also 3D character models for the gears and the restored content. It would be an herculean effort from Square-enix.Xenogears remade in the same vein as Star Ocean the second story R would be awesome. Please Square make it happen![]()
It doesn't exactly have a free camera. It can be rotated only in the X direction but it has a fixed distance and angle of elevation. And many areas didn't allow full 360 degree rotation either. So it would definitely require more work than SO2R but it's not like Trails remake with full camera control/behind the ass camera perspective. Also one of the things about Xenogears being incomplete was that it had a lot of soft lock moments. KOS-MOS and T-ELOS are in Xenoblade 2 and they did credit Namco for the character use. From what I understand KOS-MOS is in Xenoblade Chronicles X. Would Monolith have had to gotten permission from Bandi to do that?

Final Fantasy VII (FF7) vastly outsold Xenogears, with FF7 moving over 15 million units across platforms compared to Xenogears' roughly 1.4 million, highlighting FF7's massive mainstream success as a system-seller versus Xenogears' strong but more niche performance as a beloved cult classic RPG.How did Xenogears do, in comparison to OG FF7, in terms of sales? Is it considered a cult classic which underperformed, or was it a legitimate hit topping the charts at the time?

Final Fantasy VII (Original)
Xenogears
- Sales: Over 15.3 million units worldwide (as of late 2025) across multiple platforms.
- Impact: A monumental commercial and critical success, credited with popularizing JRPGs globally and becoming a major driver for the original PlayStation.
In Summary: Final Fantasy VII was a global phenomenon, selling over ten times more copies than Xenogears, which remained a highly influential but comparatively smaller hit within the RPG genre.
- Sales: Approximately 1.4 million worldwide (around 1.2 million on PS1, plus PSN sales).
- Impact: A significant success for Squaresoft (now Square Enix) in its own right, earning Sony's Gold Prize in Japan for over 500,000 units and becoming a foundational title for the Xeno franchise, but it was a much smaller phenomenon than FF7.
