"Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Bose isn't wholly on par with the original, but it retains a rich narrative and a lot of soul. The battle system tweaks are a welcome addition, along with the updated look. Despite its shortcomings, fans of the series (or those fond of character-driven RPGs with a lot of wordy introspection) would not be remiss to give this game a try."

A higher score than I thought, will be picking this game up eventually. Based on all the complaints I've read before (here at GAF for example), it seemed like the game would end up around 4-5.

What have they done >_<

Yes it's frightening. But I guess that's what the average Joe in America prefers over anime-styled characters.
Hey man, shes got nothing on the Anime MOMO in terms of creepiness. Good lord! :lol

Though not totally anime inspired as the first one was, I do like the update. My only major gripe is that it doesn't take place too long after the first game yet everyone does look older. I know I'll end up liking it since I did like the first one (what I played of it. Actually, I need to finish it. Shit.) Anyway, I want it.

The characters are still anime-style. I mean I doubt anyone would confuse it with a Western design. Frankly, I thought the 3D models in the first game were horrible, particularly the China doll faces on all the female characters.

Irregardless of the rest of the game, I really like the Ep 2 character redesigns. Well, except for Shion. GIVE SHION BACK HER GLASSES!
Funnily enough, shes the only one I consider really improved

Edit: Post that KosMos figure face pic :lol

oh god it hurts :lol :lol

Edit: Jiji - Your magazine will be sent very soon, sorry it took so long :)

The problem isn't with anime-styled characters in general. It's the fact that when rendered in 3D, characters with such aggressively anime-style faces look like resin kits instead of people. :p For me, watching the cinemas in ep. 1 was like watching a serious space opera being acted out by the contents of some Japanese kid's toybox--it really undercut the drama of the narrative. If the game had used 3D models with cel-shading or traditional 2D animation for the cutscenes, those designs would've been fine. Since they chose to stick with traditional 3D for Ep. 2, I think overhauling the models was the right choice.

this will probably not be played, regardless of how many annoying fanboys tell me its awesome.

although, I may buy one of those "KOS MOS Taking a huge dump" toys, though.
