I dont have my 360 yet ( :'( ) and i have no idea if this is old or not (read:dont care). But someone has come up with an Ap that can transcode all your video files (whatever you have the codecs for on your PC) on the fly and run them through xbox 360s media extender. You will still need your MCE PC though.

Do you think someone will figure out how to get video streaming with XP, or is there some software "wall" that will never allow that to happen? I can't see buying a new OS for a while.

I was reading something today tha said MC funcitonality will come with all but the most basic of Vista packages (there 3 home packages apparently).


But to answer your question no i have no idea what the barrier is to someone making a 3rd party ap that makes an XP pc appear as a MC pc.

the worst part is that WMC has the capability to stream video, but MS doesn't let the Xbox 360 play video over a WMC connection on purpose...

Yeah I posted about this here a while ago, not exactly sure if the exact same program or person/group doing it though, but they were able to get any video files played being converted on the fly from the MCE PC to the X360.

That was the original solution, this new one is a bit more streamlined apparently.


Its still very early beta but it bodes well for being able to throw away my modded xbox some time soon.

Is there anybody out there who still does the CPU/RAM upgrades to non-1.6 Xboxes to make them powerful enough to run high-def in XBMC?

Ok, just installed this now, and yes it does indeed rock. MUCH easier to install than the previous effort. Has great documentation, and very easy to use. Very nicely done.

I installed Media Center on my laptop just so I could stream my downloaded videos to my HDTV. I watch the 1UP show, DL.TV, On The Spot, and GameTrailers.com HD videos through the Xbox 360 on my HDTV. The HD content from GameTrailers.com looks really good. Adding Divx/Xvid support will be good for tv shows and movies. Now I wish I could get MP4 or H.264 support for the Xbox 360 cause there are some podcasts like the Revision3 podcasts that are only in that format.
