Yakuza 0 coming to the WEST - "PS4 Console Exclusive"

Didn't see this under the FF7 and PS Now threads, but YOOOOOO.

From the hours I played, it's a great game, and looks plenty similar to how their handling Yakuza 6/1 remake.

Great news, and confirmation of a physical release means I'll be buying it.
One of these days I'll run through them all back-to-back, after I track down a cheap copy of Y2.

Where does 0 fit into the chronological release vs fitting into the story? I've finished #3 and about halfway through #4 (will never finish #4 till retail price of DS3 controllers has dropped substantially given my one is broke).

chronologically Yakuza 0 is the most recent game in the series. The next game, 6, has not come out in Japan.

in terms of fitting into the story, it takes place before each individual game's "present" but several games have flashbacks to events which precede Yakuza 0.

Title just means no PS3 version for the west which is alright. No need to waste resources.

I'd love to have Y0 on PS3. my PS3 is basically a Yakuza box anyway.

This was the best news of the whole show for me. I was in such a bad place as a Yakuza fan a few years ago, and now all this!

I really want the hd games myself.

But is 1 hd needed with the remake

Still would like the samurai games but I know those will never happen.

Hd games make little sense, already have voice and translation

The Remake is going to fix the main issue with the game - namely the combat. While I really enjoy the first game its got issues with the combat (lock on, and the camera) and the combat has become far more refined as the series goes on. The remake is basically taking the combat from Yakuza 0 (including the different styles) so that's one enormous plus.
Its also getting far more content either entirely brand new, or stuff that has been in past games that was never originally in Yakuza 1 - stuff like minigames such as Shogi/Mah Jong or Karaoke etc.

Basically I imagine the Remake will make Yakuza 1 (HD) redundant. Now I just need the second game to get remade in the newer game engine!

I've never played a Yakuza game before but this looks rad. Combat looks fun and this looks like a basically exaggerated idealized version of what Yakuza are like. Sweet.

I don't have a PS4 so I'll just grab Yakuza 5 and wait for a PC release of 0 or something. Or maybe just wait until I get a PS4 many years down the line. Whichever comes first.

Why do you think Ishin would never be localised, btw? Too steeped in historical Japan?

As you say the other two aren't even out in Japan yet, so maybe an announcement for them next year, either one, would be too soon. Surely Ishin is the more likely candidate?

i was actually thinking of Kenzan, but i do get the impression that the team localizing these games is fairly small. by the time 0 is released, i think it's likely that either 1E or 6 will be out in japan (dunno which is next, lol) and considering that kenzan never made it over, either of those would get precedence.

i've remained optimistic about yakuza's future in the west even during shitty times like when sega of america all but dissolved earlier this year, but i still can't see ishin make it over when there are mainline entries which can be localized instead.

We're living in a world where

FF7 Remake is happening
The Last Guardian exists
Ni No Kuni 2 is coming out
Yakuza 5 is out like next week
Yakuza 0 is coming out
Shenmue 3 is real
Nintendo has added Cloud to the Smash Bros roster
Dark Souls 3 is out next year

all this plus Nier 2 & Zero Escape 3
still bummed about Silent Hills

there is always room for more yakuza threads

amen

I got in at 4 and was fine. They have a little theater setting that gives a good rundown of previous games. Y4 is one of my favorite games ever.

this is a good person right here with good advice

Don't forget, people; @GioCorsi #Yakuza6 #YakuzaKiwami #YakuzaIshin #BuildingTheList. Throw in a Thank you for 0, too! :P

damn, tempting but honestly with today's news i wonder if we should focus efforts on when 6 drops in JP?

I've imported Yakuza games for a while now but I stood back with 0, for some reason I was confident it was coming over. Glad I waited :P

Samurai Jack is getting revived too.

This is the year of dreams, I fear what next year will be now, the universe must balance itself out somehow.

Sheesh, if you want manly men, you've been looking in all the wrong places.
I've always had my eye on this series, but the treatment it has gotten from Sega USA in the past has made me cautious to jump in.

I know this is pretty man-tacular.

Then help us to get the remake by buying Y5 and Y0.
I'm considering it now, particularly now that 0 was announced. If they confirm the remakes, I'll definitely give it a shot.

After that there is a good chance of Kiwami being released here, and Y6 is a given.

Yes, I think Yakuza 0 would have to bomb terribly for Yakuza 6 to not make it over.

I'm gonna do my part in making sure that doesn't happen.

Give it now. Cmon, you know you want it.

But seriously, I guess they will try to bring Kiwami (Yakuza 1 remake) and Yakuza 6 eventually, but I wouldn't expect them until 2017. That is, if Y5 and Y0 aren't complete bombs. Y5, I think they won't expect much, but they do have a better chance in Y0 and, if it sells well, it should start closing the gap between japanese and american release.

Hello again Sega, long time no see. It's always nice when you drop by with good news. Looks like it's time to finally buy a PS4.

If stuff like Putty Squad, The Last Tinker and Giana Sisters can get a physical release on PS4 then there is definitely hope for this. I really hope so anyway.
