Yakuza 0 |OT| Yes, you can start with this one!

Nah, I won't. I am by no means someone who works hard at trophies. I mean I try to get them done if I can. But to give you an idea, I have platted ONE game, ever. That's it.

So definitely will be playing this at my own pace.

Thanks so much for your help...again. lol

Dragon's Dogma? (that's my only plat ever, so I thought I'd ask)

Yeah, it really was :(

I have the NA sales.
Yakuza ~56k
Yakuza 2 ~24k
Yakuza 3 ~50k
Yakuza 4 ~20/30k
Yakuza Dead Souls ~6k

Wow, that's low. We're lucky to get 0, Kiwami and 6.

my thoughts exactly, geez
sad to see highlights (2 & 4) do so piss-poorly as well

Now if Sega would just take another risk and let the Yakuza team develop Binary Domain 2.

that'd be cool but honestly, we're lucky we're getting just this, id be shocked if that was the secet nagoshi project right now

jesus, wow. So anything over 100k would pretty much be a massive success by the standards of the series. Hope it does well for them. I'm really looking forward to Kiwami and 6 now.

seriously, i'm hoping for six figures (or close to) here! we really gotta keep the hype going for kiwami as well

Just so you can understand how utterly niche this series has been in NA. (this is from before Yakuza 5's release)

...goddamn, brutal when you put it like that
bubsy 3D!

Is it true that the real life Yakuza actually funded this game franchise in the first place?

I have never played the a Yakuza game before this game and its really fun. Its like the Boardwalk Empire show that I like but with Yakuza and cool fight system.

So is the square, circle, triangle, x rating system something common in Japanese culture, or did they just make it up? It's weird that the game doesn't even explain that to you, as if you're just expected to know what they mean.

Seriously the most misleading thing about any Yakuza game's trophy list. The rest of the trophies are just like "do some things" while the one trophy is just casually sitting there with "do everything in the game."

And the funny thing is, "The Perfectionist" trophy essentially includes about 75% of the other trophies within it! Trophy list could've been chapter trophies, missable trophies, and Perfectionist and it'd essentially be the same. :)

I don't actually know why I didn't try a Yakuza game until now. They were just those weird games that existed on the periphery that I vaguely knew about.

As someone who doesn't like the GTA games and doesn't care for open world games in general, I might have assumed that it was like GTA in Japan, which didn't sound great to me. I played Saints Row because it was different enough to GTA that I was able to get something different.

But with a few exceptions, this game has so much that I like that I'm confused about why I didn't give it a chance before. Including what it doesn't have, which is driving. Driving is literally the reason I've never finished a GTA game---always hated how much driving you have to do in those games.

Just to verify: double circle (best) > circle > square > triangle > x (worst)? That seems to be what my experiments have told me, but I'm not certain

Just finished the Real Estate story line, and also wrapped up chapter 6. After putting 35 hours into this over the last week and a half, i think it's time for a break. Otherwise i'll never play RE7. But man, this game is so so good. I pre-ordered both Kiwami and 6 the other day, can't wait to play more.

I don't think so but Yakuza 1 had some trouble at the start and Nagoshi kept asking for more money from SEGA.

I suggest watching "Forging The Dragon" series from yakuzafan.

For the minigames you only have to focus on double circle and circle. The rest is not worth it. Let advisors invest when their double circle alligns with the category of the building (or regular circle if you don't have anything better). For hostesses you pretty much only have to watch the clients smileys (but put your best ones on the richest clients, switch around mid session if needed).

i still believe! this game is going to be the biggest seller of the yakuza franchise in the west.

it charted 8th in UK in it's first week.

I have this feeling as well. It reviews insanely good, gets some decent exposure and seems to be sold out at various retailers. Sega might've shipped a relatively small amount, but this must exceed their expectations at the very least.

On the topic of sales I'm a bit concerned about how Kiwami will be received. From the looks of it it seems to be little more than a souped-up PC mod version of Yakuza Zero (the fact that some cutscenes use the original PS2 rigging as is is crazy), which makes sense for the Japanese audience as it was an anniversary stepgap game but not so much for Western newcomers who probably expect more of a step up than that. Combine this with the ridiculous loops you have to jump to be up to date for Y6 and it's hard not be relieved that Sega is already knee-deep into its localization. I wonder if it wouldn't have been better to skip Kiwami and localize Ishin instead.

Is the Omi Alliance interconnected in some way with the Tojo Clan, or are they two completely independent organizations?

The Omi alliance is essentially the Osaka equivalent of the Tojo clan, which is based in Tokyo.

Is the story in 5 weak? :(
Y5 is absolutely fine.

Please keep in mind that when folks rank the Yakuza games they are actively participating in splitting hairs.

My personal order is Y2, Y3, Y0, Y1, Y4 and Y5.

But please keep in mind that I thoroughly enjoyed Y5 (I'm two chapters away from the platinum...But got caught up with Y0).

Every Yakuza game is worth the cost of the Black Champagne bottle.

You will appreciate the Driving/Taxi racing in Y5.

Soo... Catfights are complete bullshit that I will never spend any time with again. Either you seem to lose every single move and they keep getting red/rainbow attacks and when you win you just get white over and over.

When you need to mash the button it seems impossible to win 75% of the time since I'm pressing as fast as humanly possible and still lose most of them. I'm literally just tensing up my whole arm and making it vibrate on the button, there's no way I can press any faster.

One of the worst minigames I've played in a long time.

Seeing as how there is a large number of people who haven't played the original Yakuza game before, and how 0 basically sets up for it perfectly it makes perfect sense to localise it now especially with 0 being popular. Plus 1 has one of the best stories in the series, so it'd be a crying shame just to skip it. Plus if all goes well it'll hopefully pave the way for 2-5 getting PS4 releases... Plus 6 has a good enough recap in the (long) intro to the game that you don't have to have played the former games to pick up the story (but it does help).

That was my reaction when I tried them for the first time last night. There really is no way to anticipate what RPS pick the opponent is going with, right? Also I'm the worst speed masher in the history of the universe so I auto-hate anything that makes me do that (outside of my when I used to be able to use my turbo buttons on my old NES Advantage)

Yup. After meeting the requirements for completion, I headed for the hills never to return to that underground event again.

If it looks about as good as Zero, I suspect most people who played Zero will want to pick up Kiwami to continue the story. I mean, at least going by the impressions in here, almost everyone has been praising the game, and many have never played a Yakuza game before.

I think Kiwami will do just fine especially with new people joining in. What's interesting is how Kiwami was well received in Japan especially since the 1st game did so well over there. I am guessing PS4 + 60fps and people just wanted to replay it?

Also just took a survey on PSN and put this for the "ask us anything" field.

Ýeah, I definitely agree that people who blast through the story in Kiwami will be satisfied, most likely enough to want to purchase 6 as well, but a lot of the charm of this series is going to lose its luster when the game is this similar to Zero and even a step back in some ways (Kiryu only, Kamurocho only, no new retro games...). The issue this series has with asset... "repurposing" is well known, but up until now we had one-two year gaps to enjoy the previous game, whereas this time around it looks like we'll be getting three in pretty much a single year. Let's hope for the best, I suppose.

Speaking of bad mini games, the batting range is not much better than that dumb catfight.

Pretty hard to see the ball and it doesn't take much for it to fly off in the wrong direction. Constantly different speeds and curveballs so you can't just rely on a certain timing either.

Exactly. I took the bait once before and got deep into it before seeing the perfectionist trophy in a past Yakuza game. Never again, unless I feel like grinding it out.

Worst part is that the completionist trophies involve me playing games I am absolutely no good at. Virtua Fighter, for one. Outrun, is another (Gave up on beating electronics king, at 4.8mil =( ). I can maybe manage Space Harrier but I'm pretty sure I'm ass at that too lol.

And let's not get into catfights hah.

After hearing all the horror stories about last disco battle, I've beaten Ogita on the third try.
All those hours of Miku games finally paid off!

Edit: Now Kiryu has a dope fan during fever time!

Literally just finished this game, credits are rolling as I type and I have to say... this game has blown me away.

The amount of content, the quality of said content, every side quest different and well written, the combat and various styles... THE PURE HYPE WHICH WAS THE FINAL BOSS BATTLES.

Goro Majima you have rocketed in to my my top 5 badass video game characters. I love that guy.

This is my first Yakuza game and I am gutted I missed out on all the other ones, what are my chances of remakes of every Yakuza game? Slim to none I imagine... but I need it.

Maaaaaaaaaaan,
Goro not saying anything at the end and just walking off, that's emotional folks

Actually the odds of 2-5 getting remade are better than slim to none. In the last year there was talk about potentially remaking 3-5 for the PS4 (2 is running on the PS2 engine so that'd need a Kiwami level remake at least, while the others could get away with just being remasters). I'd love it to happen just to have definitive versions of the games but we shall see.

So is the square, circle, triangle, x rating system something common in Japanese culture, or did they just make it up? It's weird that the game doesn't even explain that to you, as if you're just expected to know what they mean.

I understood it because of the round robin format used in some sports competitions. For that format circle is positive (win), X is negative (lose) and triangle is neutral (tie).

As someone for whom Yakuza 0 is their first game, I definitely plan to buy Kiwami, and then 6. I'm not sure after playing 6 I'd then want to go back and play 2, 3, 4, and 5, especially if 6 already shows me the story recaps for the others.

In a perfect world, Sega would've had the 2 remake ready to go after Kiwami, but this is the problem with trying to both produce remakes and new games with stories that all tie together.

Nice to hear that from first time players :). I had similar reaction when first played Y3.

Aah, my bad. Haven't played Kenzan, only Ishin.

Unrelated, but whoever in the team came up with THIS heat move and THIS heat move for Majima deserves some sort of award.

Remaking Y3,4 and 5 would be a MASSIVE undertaking. Remasters are what one should realistically expect for these 3.

Yakuza 2 MIGHT still get remade like Kiwami though.

I would be all about a remaster of 3, 4 and 5.
