Yakuza KIWAMI |OT| Translator's Note: "KIWAMI" means "EXTREME"

Did 16 substories tonight. Pretty good but not as creative as 0 just yet. I'm debating on continuing with the plot (chapter 4) because I'm already fairly overpowered from all the XP I got from the substories.

For us people who started with 0, it was great seeing Pocket Circuit Fighter again :D

Anyone know if Kiwami's legend difficulty is like 0's? I don't wanna have to do all minigames and Majima stuff twice. I'll just play story only on the first run if so.

Happily, it is not... those things carry over. Side quests don't, but that's pretty much it I think.

The Dragon Of Pocket Circuit has been Reborn!

Hint to those who are doing all this: complete all the tournaments up to about 2 or 3 races from the end, THEN finish the sub story, THEN finish the tournaments. Heck of a lot easier with specific parts!

Some do in Kiwami as well. I've found all locker keys without even checking any guide, it's very easy with key detector.

Oh, ok. I'd pretty much cleared all the lockers and hadn't seen one from a quest so I figured they were all on map.

And yea, it feels really easy to find them in this game.

Yakuza 5 spoiler
Baba's moveset.

Ahh, cool, that makes sense. Thanks yo

I feel like I'm bad at matching movesets in my memory.

Is it ever day in this game? I'm in Chapter 6 and it's still night. There was a brief moment in chapter 5 when it was dusk (though it kinda looked like dawn), but not noon-day. I'd like to do sidequests during the day.

I think Yakuza 3 was the first mainline Yakuza game to have day-time. (or maybe Kenzan).

Got to chapter 4. Enjoying it so far, but it's really not on the same level as Yakuza 0. Chapter 3 in particular was pretty poor. The mindless stealth and fetch quest at the beginning and then you're up against crowds of enemies but at this point you neither have any real crowd control moves or weapons to effectively take care of them so you just charge them with Beast Style attacks until it's over, and the boss,
Shimano
, was just tedious.

Now I did a couple of substories in chapter 4 and they're all so mundane. Here's a guy trying to scam you, 2 or 3 lines of dialogue, you beat him up, he runs away and it's over. So far nothing of the funny situations or dialogue you encountered in 0.

I'm in chapter 7 and it's day time so you're close

I mean, they got better at writing these interactions and everything else over 10 years. I still think most of the side quests here are pretty endearing too.

whoa really? So they added daytime nice.

It feels pretty weird...

Happy they did it though.

I agree, I'm finding many of them very enjoyable and endearing, but I was prepared for something significantly "less good" than 0.

I think the one big downside to starting with 0 is that it's overall the strongest Yakuza title in all fronts, so everything after it will feel like downgrade, and Kiwami is effectively a remake of the weakest game in the series, so with this it's especially tough.

These sub stories were ridiculously fun back in the day though, I imagine. I started with the original game and I remember laughing my ass off at many of them. Just now I did the ones with the gang of scammers who bump into you and act like you broke one of them's shoulder, etc. I remember thinking it was amazing and loved their goofy walking cycle (although ironically they walk normally in Kiwami...).

As it stands though, I think the only sub stories comparable with stuff from 0 are the Majima Everywhere ones.

i think i might try to space out my side stories, i did them all as soon as possible in yakuza 0 and it sucks not having any to do and wanting a break from the story. not to mention, it makes you OP.

I need help on something, early in the game when you are
in prison
you learn how to do a special heat attack when the enemy is glowing a specific aura, well i am now past that currently in ch.4 and I can't seem to do it since then. Do I have to unlock it in the abilities menu? Any help would be appreciated.

yeah they don't explain it clearly and it's not in the info section at all
but under abilities, soul unlock the essence of each style.

then you'll be able to use it. just change the fighting style to match the color of when the boss rejuvenates when you have a heat meter.

I was missing that too, thanks everyone!

Did Kiyru and Majima ever meet each other in 0? My memory is fuzzy. This game starts off with Majima knowing full well who he is.

Also, why did Majima go batshit crazy? I highly preferred his character in 0.

Yeah it's in there, I want to say in the top one (soul?), there's one for each style in the bottom half, they cost 3 each

Thank you both! Yea I wish they would explain things a little better, it took me asking on here to find out where I can see how many experience points I had lol

I keep losing heat a lot. Does anyone have any tips? It took me a long time to get past Majima because I didn't have enough at the right moments

You should always have a bunch of health/heat and heat medicine with you. In this game particularly for boss battles when you need to do the kiwami special move so they don't heal up too much and you do more damage.

At
the end he saw him and he knew who he was, just a quick scene.

No idea why, I prefer him in 0 as well.

Just wondering if any of the DLC have dropped yet or are they included inside the game disc itself? Sorry I don't understand the wording in the OT

He was my absolute favorite part of 0. His story was by far more interesting than Kiryu.
Me too, his character was sooo interesting and his story too, but here? It's a whole different character <.<
I'm hoping that he gets better.. but then again it's not about him this time, so at least there's something for him in Kiwami 2.

Im learning to enjoy him in the same way I enjoy an insane anime character.

But yes, majima from zero was fucking amazing I liked his story and his playstyle 10 times better.

His personality was always as it is in Kiwami, Thats the real Majima (mad dog of Shimano)
The Majima in Zero was a farse.

Also in zero he was supressing alot of anger, cuz he could not screw up as he needed to please his boss to climb back the Yakuza ladder. When there was no more need to play the good boy Majima, he turned into what he really is.

I'm expecting epic scenes from him, so at least give us that! XD (no spoilers please).

He is not totally insane here either. The Majima Everywhere system might give you a wrong impression on his characters, but he is still the same guy from Zero. He has just learned to mask (and try to ignore) the fact that he cares about stuff. He just [Yakuza 0 spoilers]
doesn't wanna show the fact that he cares about things so he wouldn't be emotionally abused and get hurt, like he was in Zero
. Later on in the series, as the stakes get higher and more personal, you see his more serious side again.

Yea for sure. I just hope everyone who's riding on the new wave if Yakuza popularity recognizes that, and is aware that the next major installment is not that far off.

Just saw the Dead Souls nod. Pretty damn awesome.

In pain from all the people I see going Y0-YK-Y3-Y4-Y5

Yakuza 2 is not that old. It released the same year over here as GTA:IV and Gears of War 2. It still looks gorgeous and has debatably the best story in the franchise. Plus it got a reprint earlier this year and can be easily emulated.

That's what I was talking about, when I said a few pages back that David will love the part that I just played, hahaha. Even the trophy was a nice nod to the Japanese title for that game!

Honestly, the Majima Everywhere system and stuff that Majima pulls, feel like a love letter to long time fans. I'm loving every second of it :)

Yea I remembered someone mentioning it earlier.

I wasnt sure what to think when I heard about the Majima everywhere stuff before hand, but it's implemented so well. Already had half a dozen really great moments with it and I'm only part way through the game.

Gen X

Trust no one. Eat steaks.
I'm not really surprised to read the complaints about Kiwami as it is essentially a 10yo game with a new lick of paint and a few tweaks but given there's been another 6 games in the series (not counting Dead Souls, Inshin etc) so their development has progressed. Still, I'm looking forward to starting it when I eventually get around to finishing Zero. Currently just got the Moon Club left to beat in the Caberet minigame before I progress the story, think I'm on Chapter 6.
