Yakuza KIWAMI |OT| Translator's Note: "KIWAMI" means "EXTREME"

Will Kiwami allow me to become stupidly overpowered like Yakuza 0 where I could level up the Dragon of Dojima tree forever?

In terms of the completion list, I guess it is. I for one enjoy doing absolutely everything on the game but its good for those that want to get trophies without doing all the mini games while I still have tons to do if I want to clear the completion list for my own satisfaction. Please both parties then!

Be interesting to see what the remake of 2 does in terms of completion list and Amon requirements. As 2 required you to do quite a bit to unlock the Amon battles, and with 6 making things easier I'm wondering if they'll ease up on the requirements.

I honestly think most of the time 90% of the completion stuff in yakuza is pretty fine.
Most of the time it's the last 10% that can be painful as well as the very last few trophies.
I think ideally I'd love a yakuza plat make me do everything without driving me crazy.
I think without the arena grind and a few other things doing the yakuza 5 plat has probably been my favorite especially since the golden gun to rush legend with is extremely rewarding to get.
I think 0 would have been pretty ok too if some of the highscore requirements were dropped by 30% and the car chase didn't exist and they didn't mysteriously decide to disable carry over for legend.

While I still find it weird that they transformed the women's underground fighting in zero to this, the Rock/Paper/Scissors system probably made it easy to change over to Mesuking, which is 100% just a oddly converted version of Mushiking https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mushiking:_The_King_of_Beetles which I learned about recently. I mean it's still weird but it makes more sense to me now.

Here's footage of the NAOMI arcade game sequel Mushiking II:

Which high score requirements? The arcade games were incredibly easy to do, I managed them all on my first try. Disco and Karaoke was pretty simple as well (a couple of disco side stories pushed you to do even better, but still nothing that took more than a half dozen or so tries).

Only things I had issue with in 0's plat was getting a couple of items from Dragon and Tiger (incredibly low drop rate, but at least you could expedite the searches so it was just a matter of patience) and needing 10 wins from Cat Fighting - which was ok when I started figuring out all the patterns, but still just random enough that it should have only required 5 wins or so, just to save my sanity.
All the gambling requirements were really low as well in my opinion, you really only needed a couple of good hands for most of the games and you were well on your way to finishing them. Really Mahjong though did seem like the odd game out - since it required far more effort than any other gambling style mini game.

The arena grind is a pity in 5 (and to some extent in 0 as well), as the older games didn't require you to grind your way via points to unlock new stages, just win on them a few times (I think 3 had a few unique requirements tied to side stories or recruiting tag partners). Grinding my way up to unlock the last arena fight in 0 took far too long in my opinion, basically cheesing the golden gun in fights until I had enough points. Of course that isn't actually required for the 100%, I just really wanted to fight the toughest bosses in the arena, wasn't disappointed either!

Then again, I think I just love the variety of stuff to do in the series. Even at its grindiest I never tire of the games (well, bar the weapon mod grind for Ishin, but that game still rocks!). Its not like other games with tons of hidden crap to collect (thankfully Yakuza keeps these to a minimum and makes them super easy to find) or online trophies, those really would drive me mad!

Fantasy zone drove me crazy for example. I'm more about if an requirement makes you explore something for a bit rather than it being so challenging that it makes you hate certain things. Like I don't think Yakuza has ever done "challenging" in a way that was interesting and not just straight up frustrating for me.

And I mean I absolutely love souls games and pretty much platted all of them, I even enjoy climbing ladder in some competitive games like dota. So it's not that I'm difficulty shy.
But dunno Yakuza is real special about how it views difficulty and challenge.

No, can't level up forever, but the Tiger Drop move makes everything a joke in Kiwami. I don't remember it being in Zero.

Counter Twist, while not as powerful as Tiger Drop, is significantly safer and manages to catch almost all attacks even if you have brain-dead timing.

Although Tiger Drop is more powerful and feels more powerful/more satisfying

Kiryu can also be a great gloaty asshole when needed.

This blew me away when I saw it in-game. I was like, this man needs to go back to jail. That was a fucking double homicide right there.

Chapter 9 on my Legend mode done! Thank the gods. I must've given it like 10 attempts last night and gotten up to the very last part at least three times before choking. First attempt today and I destroyed it.

Should be a relatively easy run to the plat now.

Couple of things

I played every yakuza except 0, 5, and 6 and I forgotten most of 1. Should I play zero before I start on this? I just got to the first majima fight once Kiryu is out of jail.

Second, I've heard/seen if you manage to beat majima in the first fight you get a ridiculous amount of CP/EXP that helps in the early game. is it worth the hassle?

Third I remember there was a guy "thepatrick" that did trophy guides and completion lists for everything and all the games. Is there a trophy guide or completion list for Kiwani?

Just beat it, got a tad over 70% completion. Think I'm done for now. Did all the sidestories except Amon since that requires Majima Everywhere to be finished and I wasn't down for that.

Holy shit @ Mushiking being basically the same damn thing as Mesuking. Sega can be brilliant sometimes.

I finished the game with literally thousands of EXP unused because I'd maxed out. And I only got to Rank S with Majima Everywhere. So no.

The Darts mini game is stupidly easy. And it doesn't appear there's a time bonus/punishment? I suck at pool though. I'm on chapter 9 I think and I haven't visited the Cabarets/dating or Bikini bars outside of the story at all. I think it's probably for the best. haha.

I didn't play darts in this game, but it was very easy in 0 as well.

Fuck pool, glad I didn't have to touch it in this one.

Bowling sucked at first but it's not bad once you get the hang of it.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Really? That is awesome. Thanks!

Be forewarned it doesn't seem to mark *ALL* the side quests for some reason. I ran into at least one side quest not marked on the map at all. Other then that, without comparing each quest with a FAQ, I cannot say.

Though, once you get the accessory, it will pretty much dot out the map for most side quests and that's where you'll get majority of your experience points.

Pretty sure I saw some people talking about the second to last fight in the game, I didn't think it would be that bad.

Fuck
Jingu and his two shithead MIA Agents. When they got up again after I beat them the first time I had to pause the game and walk around a little bit.

Great game though. Think I'm just gonna find 2 instead of waiting for Kiwami 2.

Haruka is secretly a very evil person. Spoiler for end game
I can't believe she just leaves the puppy on the street in case it can find his mom, wtf, she's leaving a puppy to starve to death after taking care of it for however many days the game takes place (at least 3-4 days)! At least drop the puppy off at a no kill animal shelter if Japan has those?

The car chase in this one was somehow worse than the one in 0

Yeah, I just finished the car chase and...while I'm not sure it was worse than Zero's because Zero's seemed longer and the car had less health or something, it was really, really frustrating. What blows my mind is that after all this time they still think the car chase mechanic is good.

I...quite like the car chases.

What exactly do you dislike about them? They can sometimes require multiple attempts due to demanded precision, but they seem mechanically sound and rational. I don't recall ever feeling that they were unfair, either. Just difficult. Isn't it basically Time Crisis?

So I still have Kiwami sealed. I've read everywhere online it would be way better finding a copy of Yakuza 0 and playing through that first. All agree? Problem is cheapest I can find is psn store.

Jingu himself wasn't bad, fuck the agents though.

Is the no blur effect in Kiwami in darts? I played on every available option and the board never swayed or was blurry. In fact I find no discernable difference between slightly more shaky throwing hand when switching between any difficulty level or play style. Since there is no punishment for taking your time it makes it ridiculously easy to pull off repeated Hat Tricks.

Fantasy Zone was fine in my opinion. You have rapid fire bound to the R1 button which cleans up most groups of enemies/bosses no problem. Then just purchase your favourite power ups from the shop (even extra lives) and you should be done before you know it. It only requires you to reach/finish level 4 which really isn't asking that much of the player, its not as if its asking you to clear 10 levels (or the whole game!).

Time Crisis with an analog stick (or d-pad) is not fun.

I was in Vincent catching up on the drinks menus when I tried darts, of course this was the time that Majima appeared so I had to play with full blur and wobbly hands.

No idea, didn't play darts in this game.

Roulette- any tips to get the 50k WITHOUT using the Jewels (saving for Haruka requests)? I have been betting on 00 with lucky equipment in the hope of hitting a big payout (twice), but went through 30k chips that way.

Yeah... was hoping there's a less time consuming way, but it appears there isn't, I tried some of the in-game strategies it gives you (press square in the game) and they weren't working for me. I guess 1000 chips a time for 50 times it is!
