So I just got an email from Best Buy saying my order is delayed. It now says "sold out" online, and my order history says "backordered". For reference I preordered a while ago.
I think this is because I wanted the standard version, not the steel book. Does anyone know if the standard version even exists, or is it steel book or nothing? Very odd that best buy took my preorder and is now not shipping it... just to tell me the day of.

There are three upgrades (1 for each main style) that should be unlocked asap - there are special heat moves that you can use against bosses when they start glowing and regen health. Until you buy these heat moves its difficult to stop them healing (weapon heat moves should also work I seem to remember). So make sure to unlock those early to avoid frustration.
Money wise its way harder to get cash compared to 0. The best way is to use the Casino to win big, trade that money for platinum plates and then sell those to the pawn shop.
I forget if gambling cheat items exist in this game, but keep in mind that if your going for 100% trophy completion Haruka will also want you to do achieve certain payouts in gambling later in the game so its not the best idea to use cheat items early, as her gambling tasks can be a real pain in the ass. Just remember you can save/load anywhere, so just save, bet big and if you don't win just reload your save.
Best way to level up (and get some cash at the same time) is doing side stories, which usually at least give you half decent XP and maybe a cash reward if your lucky. So its worth doing them as you go.
Also, with regards to side missions keep in mind certain answers you give can affect which item you receive as a prize at the end of the quest. So its worth choosing the "best" answer (which is usually the most obvious response to the situation your in). If your going for 100% completion you need to get a certain number of different weapons, and certain weapons can only be earned via side stories.
For the arena - the "quickest" way to grind it is unlocking your Tiger Drop move for the Dragon style and abusing that in the hardest tournaments. But getting the Tiger Drop still requires you to fight Majima quite a few times before you get to the point where you can unlock the Tiger Drop.
And if it isn't obvious - The Dragon style really is completely useless for 70% of the game. Its too slow and weak until you've cleared a ton of Majima Anywhere challenges.

About how long is this game if I were to try and roughly do most things there are to do in the game?
After playing 5 and 0 back to back not too long ago, I'm just a bit burnt out on Yakuza as a franchise at the moment despite loving the games, but if this one isn't quite as long I think I'll still go for it.

0 is a higher budget, more fleshed out, larger game. It will give a better first impression.
Kiwami is also the sequel to 0.

I checked purgatory weapon shop, secret shop at the AV store, pawn shop, the pocket stadium's own part shop. I know some parts are in the lockers but I feel like there has to be way more to buy for me.

Every second or so tournament you win the shop gets new parts. Some may also be found inside lockers.

I already know that I'm not going to touch the pocket racer stuff. My least favorite activity with substories tied to it in 0. Didn't even finish all of it and I did every other substory save for Amon.

Just use a guide. The actual stories tied to it were really endearing.
Yeah, beating Pocket Fighter requires winning most of the tournaments to get the right parts. They don't really communicate that.

I've played demos of it before, but am also a hardcore Shenmue fan.

At the end of the day, it's still your call. It's just that I've played all of them and if you want my opinion, it's better for any newcomer to start with Zero.

That's a damn lie considering Everybody's Golf is on a truck right now. This arrived 2 hours later than that truck went out so now UPS is copping pleas. I wasn't going to start this today and was planning on playing EG instead, but it's the principle.

Well 6 gives you auto saving, so that'll please a lot of people (until the game autosaves after they lose a ton of cash on Mahjong
). Plus the lack of load times when entering stores etc. Its rather damn nice, it still has its share of issues mind you, but its a step forward in my opinion and Kiwami 2 should really refine the engine to the point where I see the only outstanding issue being the game runs at 30FPS instead of the 60FPS that the PS3 ports ran at.Wait until you get to the big twist. Its a real gut punch

There is; you need to beat the game in Legend mode.

It's got more whack, more stuff to do and elaborates SO MUCH MORE on some characters, ESPECIALLY Yumi, Nishiki and Reina.
Yumi's character was flat as paper in the original game but in the few scenes that were added to this remake they already fleshed her out a whole lot, which is pretty amazing to say the least.
I will definitely try and 100% this game. May actually become my first Platinum trophy.
(I didn't want to Platinum Y0 because I really really didn't like the dancing minigame).
You can (have to?) beat it in a New Game+ on Legend mode though, right?

Watching some footage, so is this basically the zero engine? Styles and moves seem basically the same. Makes sense it's a budget price.
I know this is based off the og ps2 game so it's probably not as in depth feature wise but is it worth doing all the side stuff or a blast through the story quickly a better use of time?

Yep. You need to beat the game once to unlock the hardest difficulty.
