It's been talk for years. For me, Season 6 was the last great season. I think where people who worked on the Simpson's saw the downfall was with the writing and airing of: "The Principal and the Pauper."

Some trivia on that.

Appreciated. I've always liked that episode, didn't really bother me.

if you're an animation fan, the show goes on. I think it was the first time they received such a strong confused reaction from viewers. I thought the same the way they killed off Maude Flanders. It's a cartoon but the characters personas make the show great. Imagine rewriting a character after 100 or more episodes. Today, it's more common to kill off or change characters as a plot twist in TV. So, younger audiences probably don't care that much. I imagine the original target age demographic of those who started watching the Simpson's back in 1989 were the ones who took it as something shocking.

That is some depressing shit.

Are they even thinking of ending it any time soon/ever or what's the deal?

I'm gonna cry so hard whenever one of the main voice actors die....

To most (including former writers and the Simpson's own VAs) the ride ended after Season 6 or when they wrecked Skinner's character.

I mean I understand why that episode gets criticized but in a series where they retcon basically everything and the walls of reality are always in question, why is THAT such a cardinal sin?

There were plenty of good episodes after that, too. No way The Simpsons fell as early as Season 6. It was definitely solid up to about Season 9, and 10 is the last I'll allow. Season 10 and 11 is where I really started to tune out completely.

I mean technically Apu is dead.

I think their was talk of ending the series, but then the movie was a massive success and killed that discussion. Now they are in a worse limbo than southpark
