Yet another new Project Gotham Racing 3 screen

I think your wrong there. We will see the same problems this new next-gen, as we saw last (this still I guess) gen. Games will have frame drops, look ugly and even crash plenty. :)

It's all up to the budget and talent of the developers.
Let me rephrase that. My opinion is that most games will run at 60FPS plus. Sure, there will be some shit games but most of the AAA titles from 1st and 2nd party dev's will be smooth. I expect PGR3 will run at a solid 60FPS. Anything less is just not called for.

I wouldn't make such proclamations. There will be plenty of developers who want to bring the hardware to its knees or are just too lazy, don't have the resources to optimize.

now that is impressive.

looking at those screens... if shenmue 3 were ever made for the 360... im sure it would looks amazing... CG quality will be there... definitely.

FOR THE LAST TIME: IN-GAME!!
Haha, even the menu on the door is the same, though I can't see it all.

That's a pretty vague commitment. Is it an in-game screenshot or not?

I still say the texture resolution is too high to be in-game.
The guy doesn't have much of a way with words.

ok, let's back up a sec here. some of you guys are convinced 100% that that's an ingame shot?

man....
The guy from bizarre that posted it says its "game geometry".

There is nothing about this screenshot that shouldn't be able to be done in game on the 360. Why are people so adamant about it being a render?

It's going to happen ALOT this generation with the visuals these two systems can pump out.

Plus, PGR3 is simply looking far and away "more photorealistic" than ANY other 360 games, by far, at this point.

People are being skeptical to the point of being obnoxious now. That pic was pretty clearly not real once you looked for the telltale polys. This gen is gonna wipe the floor with last gen's. And last gen did the same with the previous one. I think it's time to start raising expectations, not lowering them. :? PEACE.

This shot is more photorealistic than any ps3 game we've seen so far.

How taxing would a feature like cube mapping, would be on hardware like Xbox360 or PS3?

Just wondering if they can apply the feature to the windows

No need for cube mapping to do shiny reflective windows, but it shouldn't be too taxing.

After reading this thread, I'm covinced of two things:

1) The image is in-game, not a photo of a location
2) GAF cumulative average IQ is much lower than I thought. :(

(You pull the average up, Shog and blimblim!)

Weee. I'm glad this is from the game then. I'm looking forward to more debates about "real or not?" in the coming months :D

I expect photorealism next gen.
They did a nice enough job fooling me this gen.

That said, the city pic doesn't look real. It lacks depth and effects.

There's plenty of depth in that photo. Check out the photomode of gt4 with the flat textures. The windows have depth in this shot. What kind effects are you looking for? Sparks flying out of the air conditioner?

Straight edges on a canopy but they went to all the effort to make the 'Eat Inn' and the other Chinese symbols perfectly curved and 3D?

Because your eye will be drawn to the signs, not the edge of the frickin' awning.

Okay, serious question.

My understanding of how Bizzare is doing this is that they are taking tons of photographs and video of the locations, and then essentially making texture tiles out of them and mapping the tiles onto geometry. If that's correct, when why would we NOT expect games with textures derived this way to be nearly photo-realistic? It's not as if they have texture artists creating everyting from scratch (though I'm sure there's cleanup and such.)

I'm not downplaying how amazing this looks....just wondering why it's hard to believe that high-res photographs mapped into high-res textures would look pretty real.

I see no reason why that couldn't be in game. It looks doable on current gen hardware after seeing recent titles.

Not at that texture resolution. Not even close.

Has to be the most amazing screen shot i've ever seen.

If that's what first gen looks like. The mind boggles what games will look like a couple of generations down the line.

:lol :lol :lol

Permit me to laugh Oli. Your pics of Forza suffer just as the city does and from the same syndromes.
And bigger screens would probably tell us that Forza's photorealism suffer even more.
