Yooka-Laylee |OT| Reptile Rolling in the 90’s

This game almost instantly took me back to buying and playing Banjo-Kazooie first thing on release date. A beautiful nostalgia trip if you were an N64 Rare fan.

Is anyone playing this game on a 750ti? If so, how well does it run? My other specs more than good enough (i7-4790, 16 GB of RAM), but I'm not sure if my gpu will cut it.

Tried the backer code earlier with one and an otherwise crummy PC (4GB RAM, dual-core CPU) and it looked surprisingly good and ran well, pretty much like the PS4 version visually, though not quite locked 60fps. Yours should be more than enough for that methinks.

Question, I backed this on PC, but didn't bought the PS4 version, but I have a ps4 controller, but not an XBOX 360 controller, can I play Y-L with my ps4 controller ?

You can play any game with a PS4 controller using DS4Windows.

I've read steam has native DS4 support but I don't know much about that and what that affects exactly.

Well I've put a decent amount of time into the first world, the game seems okay, like I'm not amazed nor am I feeling like it's particularly bad but it's still early days.

Rampo though, that bit was a mess
, the idea was sound but the camera angle, strange obstacle setup towards the end and an inability to jump if you mess up and end up sliding back down causing you to crash into previous hazards, geez, it was like a stream of clumsy design cobbled together.

A lot of stuff in the game feels like this. It's like the early 3D Sonic games, where the games were perfectly playable and fun but you couldn't help but scratch your head at some of the decisions the designers made. Like, none of it ruins the game, but it'd be a much stronger game if the developers thought some things through.

I disagree. I had a lot of trouble while fighting this boss.Took me 15-20 tries. But it was my fault. I didn't understand the roll mechanic. It's super easy if you just move slowly and jump.

I think it's not even remotely as bad as people say. It's much more responsive than...say...the Last Guardian. That one's still one of my favourite games ever, haha.

Yeah, I agree. I don't have any problems at all with the camera.

Hmm, Sonic Adventure 1/2 and Heroes may end up being the right kind of ballpark for this game when it's all said and done.

It's worse for me than The Last Guardian. The camera is constaly making weird jumps when it gets too close to the geometry.

I'm stuck on Tubbz in the second world, he says he is having problems with the gas but I have no idea what to do, anyone know?

There we go!!!

BTW Capital B in World 4 lmao, I laughed.

I think it's amazing. If the characters would talk like humans it would be....terrible. It's part of the humour.

I don't have an issue with characters speaking gibberish (it's done perfectly in Tearaway, for example), but the way it's done in Yooka-Laylee definitely grates. They could do with lowering the volume on voices and limiting it to what you typically hear when speeding up the text. It's especially annoying with unskippable text.

What do you mean unskippable? I can press the X button while a character is talking and the full text will appear rather than appearing word by word.

Oh okay, understandable. It doesn't bother me though.

From what I've played so far, cutscenes and random tips/dialogue while moving around in the world.

I need this Red Gem for
cameo Shovel Knight
in the first world, but I can't seem to reach it. All there is up there is a chill plant. What do I need to do?

Also, the controls for the shooting ability sucks. So imprecise where your shot goes.

Shoot the gem.

Meh, I give up on the 2nd world, I can't find the
fart ability or whatever it is for tubbz
and the layout confuses me, I don't know how to get up the big ice ramp. I'll go unlock world 3.

Haha, how do you end the mine cart level in world 3, lol?

edit: I don't mind listening to the awesome music for hours but ...^^

edit: Damn I did it, didn't remember how, lol.

Bought my PS4 copy today and am really pleased with how it turned out!

Feels like I'm back in time, but in a good way.

Not having too much problem with camera, but I understand others feel differently.

Love the subtle old school references (the mr. pants book at the start got me lol).

I think they delivered what the kickstarter set out to do. Now it's back to playing!

I think I found the protagonist of Playtonic's next game.

Finally figured out the big ramp, now still have to figure out Tubbz and where
to get the gas move from

You get the move
on the way to the third world.

And I backed the game, but am still waiting for my physical copy to arrive. :(

I think I'm done with video game Kickstarters. This is the third that I've been burned when it comes to physical editions/rewards. There's no excuse for backers to not have the game before the general public whatsoever.

So... has anyone found where the voice files are?

I kinda hate the voices, didn't care about them in B-K but really dislike them here for some reason.

EDIT: Found them:

These files are the voices. Maaaaybe I removed something extra but I don't know yet.

So I finally decide to call it a day and sit in bed about to sleep but not before trying this.

I set my phone on the mount, turn off the pc monitor screen and lights and fire it up. Nice little intro, go into options, set voice and sound effects two notches down to be safe, 2560x1440p and on the highest setting and go to the campaign.

Holy shit does this thing look incredible. With the these settings and on my oled phone it looks like a pixar movie in the cute intro sequence. Maybe that's pre-rendered...game loads...holy shit! The colours ...and the music and the animation of the characters, just going into crouch mode and the adorable bat puts on a serious face.

Kinda feel bad for only chipping in at £10 on the kickstarter now. Also I launched it in "exclusive mode" from steam, any ideas what that is?

I'm gonna smoke another and play some more
but wanted to share first :)

The reviews made me wary but I'm happily surprised. I see some issues like the camera but this is great so far.

How do you activate the co-op for the main campaign?

Nope. Playing on a pro here with boost mode and its fine. However, I can occasionally get interference from my router as its close to the PS4 which can affect it occasionally. A reset of router normally sorts it. Try wired controller see if it goes away.

Nothing i did would ever permanently fix my shitty UBEE spectrum router from causing interference like that. A reboot would help but only temporarily. Once i made Spectrum give me different brand of router (Technicolor), the issue went away and has been gone for weeks now

People really had difficulty with the first boss? What the hell? Have they never played a game with a jump button before?

I think a lot of players just don't fully understand how the roll works. As long as you slow down when you jump and don't constantly hold the analog stick in one direction, the challenges involving it are pretty simple (aside from Gloomy Gem Grotto, but that's mainly due to the darkness).

Allowing yooka to jump while sliding downhill would curb a lot of my frustration with the first boss.

I laughed when I first found out you couldn't jump on slopes during the slide because jumping broke all of the slopes back in the the N64 platformers.

No freaking kidding. This is miraculous.

I hope to god nobody that loved Rare games back in the day didn;t buy this due to reviews. This is soooo good so far.

That cloud tho. Got eem on the third try.

Yeah.
If this game doesn't sell well this will be the final nail in the coffin for oldschool platformer games like Banjo Kazooie and/ or Yooka-Laylee. It's amazing that I'm playing a game like this. I'm 30 years old. I was 11 years old when I played Banjo Kazooie for the first time.
This game is pure videogame magic.

Now Playtonic should make a Goldeneye 64 successor.

And btw: I'm in World 4. This is my GOTY so far. Nothing beats Rare games, nothing!!!
