I get lost all the time too. I kinda like it though - feels like there's more to discover and you I get better at navigating the more I play.
I think you mean tight. It's responsive. Almost too sensitive while rolling. I had that issue to begin with but had mastered it by the first boss who really pushes you to learn the rolling controls. I understand why he controls that way too - almost like he drifts - if you roll in a circle you can see why it's designed the way it is.
Also, the low-key humour and lame jokes are great! Some people need to chill when they play light hearted games.
Make no mistake, I've laughed a lot and love humor like this, just in the context of my experience with the game and as someone who donated to the game, it just ended up coming off as trolling. It is funny though.
Everything done except seven missing quills on the last world. Anyone remember some obvious places they could be in? I don't suppose you can break the rocks in the Black Hole in One course..
The only game that comes close to this level of trolling/ puns is Banjo Tooie. Kazooie was tame in comparison, haha.
I grinned and laughed a lot playing YK. I don't feel offended either because my experience has been quite awesome so far. I completed world 1 now. Only a few single pagies and quills missing in 2 and 3. Time to Tackle world 4, I guess!!
I like how this game takes the Tooie route:
- huge levels
- things you can't do yet because the ability you need might be in another level
- bossfights as parts of normal challenges
- moderate difficulty - I need to be pushed back sometimes
- very varied challenges everywhere. I really enjoyed the isometric castle

No, I did not. I was even getting a hunter alert when close to them and also noticed that you can actually see the quills as you approach, because when you're
I cannot help but feel very disappointed. Before I go on a rant, a few notes.
Despite loving banjo 1, I only ever got about halfway through it due to time constraints. Gonna go finish it after finishing yooka laylee.
I never played banjo tooie, will go play it after finishing one.
I donated $5 to this game, my name is in the credits, I donated because I grew up playing crash and spyro, and imo banjo is pretty similar to spyro, and the spyro games are absolute magic to me. Spyro 3 is in my top 10 favorite games of all time, and what little I played of the first banjo a mere two years ago for the first time, recaptured most of spyro's magic to me.
I have only made it to the ice world thus far.
Okay, so, this game basically feels like it's shoved up its own ass. Constant jokes reminding me these people made banjo 20 years ago, and constant references to the nintendo 64. The devs feel like they are stuck in the past.
My main complaint though, is that the worlds feel too big and... err... clunkily designed. Part of what makes banjo and spyro awesome, is that the levels were somewhat large for the time, but more focused. Only took 5 minutes to learn where everything was in a given level, and every corner of every level was packed with objectives, and collectibles. Keeping the player constantly engaged. I played the first level in yooka laylee for about 3 hours last night. This morning when I continued, I felt lost. Where the eff was that pig I found last night? I feel lost a lot, and disengaged with the game a lot, constantly pausing to go skim neogaf on my PS4. I'm usually engrossed in these types of games. Another thing is it feels like it takes way too long to navigate these far too large levels.
Yooka feels way too loose to me, I feel like he reacts too quickly at just light presses of the analog stick. There's a platforming challenge in this ice world that is giving me hassle and I feel like its due to the loose controls. Spyro and Banjo control much more tightly and weighted.
Some of the dialogue comes off as trolling from the devs, like Laylee saying
looks like they blew the boss budget.
Really playtonic? It's like they themselves knew this game was gonna be subpar and decided to make fun of that via the characters in-game. Just feels trollish.
Also, is it just me or does this game only save when getting a collectable? This is getting annoying.
Oh and that bloody quiz was asking me questions about things I hadn't even experienced yet. How is this okay in a non-linear game?
And, lastly, this hubworld is bollocks. That is all.
With the exception of the bolded, I disagree with everything you wrote. But even that, you can guess your way through as the questions repeat. Not ideal, but not a gamebreaker in the slightest. The old school design, charm, and references, and gameplay are what make this game so great to me.
EDIT- And I've played and finished all the original Crash Bandicoot games, all the Spyro games, and the N64 Banjo games and DK64. If anything, I hope this game does well enough to do a sequel, where I'm sure will be even better!
Just found the last four quills I was missing and again I got a hunter alert..
Do you start get hunter alerts on quills, when you're just missing a few? Would be damn nice if it was implemented that way and I have a feeling that it is, because the last ones I was missing, didn't seem that hidden.
Anyway, what a lovely game. I need a sequel Playtonic, so get on it
Maybe after playing the same trivia game 10 times because I keep mashing A to get through the painfully slow dialog and accidentally answering 1 for every question, I'm going to get annoyed when there's slang I don't understand in a game in my native language.
How was I supposed to know one of these wasn't buried in the swamp somewhere?
There's no need to use British slang in a trivia game. I don't really care if they use it in the game, but not in a trivia game.
This had never happened before in their previous games.

If the Harry Potter books can be localized, so can this word in this game. I imagine most Americans do not know associate trolley with the British definition.
Has anyone else who backed for a physical copy still not received theirs yet? I was led to believe it would arrive by release day, but I still haven't gotten it yet, and no note has been left on my door.
Trolley is used in America as well, except usually used by older folks, same thing with buggy. Yeah, 'cart' is the most dominant term by far but I don't think recognizing synonyms is asking too much.
The minecart thing is such hot garbage. These are some of the worst bits of game design I've experienced in a game in the past two generations. The world 4 ride in particular is just fucking offensive. Playtonic is a bunch of talentless hacks who haven't got a clue of what proper game design is. Not talking just about the minecart either, most pagie challenges are lazy, uninspired and unpolished. This is definitely not "THE CREATIVE TALENT BEHIND DKC AND BANJO" like Playtonic enjoy selling themselves. Gregg Mayles is. And it shows. The only talent displayed in this game comes from the composers and the character designer. Everything else is amateur hour when you compare it directly to its inspiration. It just feels like a fan-made tribute. And I speak as the one of the biggest Banjo fans on this forum, if not the biggest.
It's not as bad as MN9, but the 72 MC was actually generous.
About to finish up World 2 tonight, just expanded and got to the boss battle. For people who are complaining about not being able to locate stuff, clear as much as you can before expanding the world. That way it's super easy for you to backtrack where you need to go. Works for me.
Also, Rampo is crazy simple I don't know why that was even a big issue in here earlier. Any tips on where to find arcade coins? Didn't fully clear world one yet and haven't seen anything in world two so far either.

Hooo boy, someone ate sour grapes I'm a huge Banjo fan, too and I love the game.
Disagree completely!
I haven't beaten world 4's minekart but I came very close on my first try. Have to try again later. I'm busy enjoying the heck out of world 5 right now. It's beautiful, the music makes me feel like a hero, haha.
Btw, can someone help me with a riddle in world 5? There a riddle that makes you use almost every ability. There's
a plate with a lightning symbol on it. Can I create electricity?
. I thought I got the solution multiple times but nothing worked.

When I first saw Kartos, I was worried that his Pagies would basically be proxies of the DK64 minecart stages where Squawks gives you a Golden Banana if you manage to collect enough Coins on the track but some of the later ones get very frustrating because there's stuff everywhere that knocks your coins out of you and it's practically impossible to avoid everything. I remember some of the earlier ones being fine, but the later ones in DK64 having stupid coin requirements so I was scared they might try something similar here. Just a shame that they apparently didn't learn from what made those levels in DK64 so terrible and tried to make them more like the minecart levels in the original DKC trilogy or Tropical Freeze instead as just a more fun change of pace from the norm instead of a frustrating one.

you can get Trowser to teach the flying move? I went into the Casino level to grab the moves then went back out and he isn't in the spot to teach the flying one. I guess I have to beat a section of the Casino first?

Pretty certain that I got hit with a bug in World 4 where you might not receive some pagies after turning in tokens. I have zero tokens on me but am somehow missing three pagies. That would mean I'm missing 30 tokens. Checked out a walkthrough and I've done everything mentioned. I've seen reports of this on the Yooka-Laylee sub-Reddit so unfortunately I'm not alone.
Well some things:
1. It is more important not to get hit, than it is to collect feathers - the threshold is very easy to reach, but you lose a lot upon getting hit
2. Don't roll, unless you are almost out of the screen, the camera will catch up fast and you don't gain anything permanent out of it
3. You can change planes while jumping - very important in my eyes
4. Only briefly look forward, keep your eyes close to Yooka most of the time, some of the lane shifts are very tight
EDIT: I like the minecart sections (and I didn't ind the first four very difficult, I don't know the fifth yet), but I would have preferred the DK64 style or the DKCTF style.
Yea, those three had me scouring the final level for a good hour. They were the only three I had left before the platinum! Thankfully I heard the subtle soundbyte hinting they were close by when near my wits end.

I concur with those tips. You need to really focus on not losing feathers by getting hit and it will come naturally. Not an easy task, but with practice each run improves, just don't get greedy. Only ever use the speed roll on a safe straightaway, and even then ease up long in advance as there is a slight delay to resume normal speed where control is lost. (Ideally you should never bother with the triggers though unless a get knocked close to the edge of the screen but haven't lost feathers)
5. I will also add that at the final stretch with multiple rows of silver quills, you can mash left and right moving back and forth to gather most all of them in those simultaneously clumped rows. An easy 2-3k added to your total right before the finish line.

I mean, I disagree with just about everything that guy said, but the minecart sections in YL are pretty wonky. Honestly can't say I enjoyed any of them.
I actually feel that the minigames and Kartos minecarts are the weakest parts of the game. Overall I've found the platforming to be great, though.
I don't even feel the levels are all that huge, although I've only done two so far. Once I've played around in a world for an hour, I've got the basic layout memorised.
As someone said above, I think getting as many pagies as you can before expanding helps you know the layout of the world much better.

You've played the game all the way up to World 4 despite considering it hot garbage made by talentless hacks, so they must be doing something right. Most people would stop playing a game they claim to hate so much.
I actually enjoy the cart rides. They can be a little frustrating, but I never see myself as being unable to finish them.
The arcade games are mostly hot garbage to ok. Nothing I'd particularly want to play again, but nothing insurmountable either. But I have yet to play the RC one. Hurdles is the hardest so far.
The whole trolley debate seems foolish. The character names rhyme. I knew pre-release, but I don't think it would require too much thought to realize Ollie, Wally, and Jolly rhyme with Trolley? Not once do Yooka or Laylee play a ukulele, but I don't hold it against them.
Also Art, Bart, and Fart the Shopping Cart just don't have the same ring to them.
Well, he's right. (That vehicle from world 3 and some of Rextro's vehicle-based minigames are the exception). The controls are tight and responsive. Platforming is so easy in Yooka-Laylee!
