This is an email advertisement for the online version of El Pais, Spain's main newspaper which belongs to the PRISA group, the pro-Socialist media organization that, together with its sister SER radio network, was behind the agit-prop campaign after the March 11 bombings.

It's also the same newspaper whose main headline on September 12th 2001, all across its cover, was "The world, awaiting expectantly for Bush's reaction".

Yes, it was, and is, that disgusting. Shame on them.

I don't get what it's saying. Was it expecting two new sky scrapers to be built by now? Or was this in response to the bombings; implying that you could blow up two buildings in three months? Tasteless and stupid either way. How is that news?

I could be translating horribly, but doesn't that flyer say "One day can give so much...Imagine what can happen in three months"?

The difference between that and what you have in the title is quite a large one.

edit: The translation of "da" to "give" doesn't make much sense, but I'm not really aware of any other meanings for the verb dar. Essentially, I'm reading it as saying "One day's (newspaper) can give so much (important information)"...take our newspaper for three months. It's using a big news story to sell newspapers. It may seem wrong, but it's surely better than using horoscopes and coupons to sell them, no?

I wouldn't say it is a bad example. It's almost inarguably the biggest news story of the nearly half done decade. The president is using it to try and be reelected, the presidential hopeful is using it to get the president out of office, this newspaper is saying "Hey, goober, read the news. It matters."

I think they are most in the right here, at least when compared with the other two.

what it really says is this:: Direct translation:: "One day for so much, imagine what could happen in three months"

now the explanation:: they want you to subscribe to the newspaper.. Look how much can happen in one day.. much less thee months.. Dont miss out.. Subscribe today .. etc. etc.
