Matlock said:Yeah. In one of the best pieces of dialogue ever written, Animal Contra says that he's going to let his own ship go down to kill the two main characters. Bill says "YOU DOG!" as an insulting expletive.
Then they grab torpedos and carry them like surfboards so they can chase after this elite general/talking dog.

c'mon konami, make more neo contras!
ArcadeStickMonk said:It's no sequel to Shattered Soldier and Neo Contra is no Contra at all.
The controls are completely wrong for this game. Neo Contra is, in essence, SMASH TV 2; which in turn was Robotron 3. However, unlike the great 360 degree shooters that came before it, Neo Contra does not use 4 axis of control. I let this go on Cannon Spike, because the DC didn't have dual analog sticks; but when you develop a 360 degree shooter for a system that has dual sticks as a default, and you don't use them, you are retarded.
What do we get instead? Two types of lock on buttons. At least these buttons can be called Contra staples, unlike the majority of the game.
Also, we get three weapons right? And the lock-on weapon get's it's own button. So why not give both you standard and power weapons each their own button? Instead, Neo Contra set Square as a fire button and then makes you toggle between weapons with a trigger while Circle remains empty. I got two weapons, two free face buttons, but I can only use one of them, WTF?
And before any shithead tried to argue that Circle is too far from Square for the "frentic" gameplay, I would remind said shithead that Square and Circle were both in use for your weapon modes in Shattered Soldier. A weapon toggle when you only have two weapons is stupid.
The controls should have been:
Left stick to move; click to evade
Right stick to aim
R2 to fire normal weapon
L2 to fire power weapon
Lock-On fire on L1. R1, and right stick click
Instead we get a botched implementation of a dumb idea anyway.
Why is this game so easy? It is a step way the fuck back from Shattered Soldier and Hardcore before it. SS may not have been as long as Hardcore, but by Christ it was about as rough. None of the bosses or scenarios are challenging, and every enemy goes down laughably quick under the might that is Weapon Set D.
Did you know that you can achieve an S-Rank in a Neo Contra level, even if you have died multiple times? That is an insult to what S-Rank stands for. That's like getting a Great in Metal Slug with two hostages.
And why in the hell is the first unlocked weapon set so powerful that it not only overshadows the weapon sets gained through completion of levels 6 and 7, but actually negates the use of any other weapon set in the game. Really, unless you are purposely trying to artificially increase the difficulty of this Life-Losing-yet-S-Ranking joke, it's either set D or Katana D fo' life. There's no benefit in using anything else whatsoever.
Set E shouldn't be a joke, and set D should have been the final reward. Instead, you beat level 5 with a pitiful C-Rank and the game just hands over the keys.
Neo Contra was certainly not worth my fifty bucks, like SS was.
Those curious can have some fun with a rental and a buddy but
real Contra fans need not waste their time.

And indeed it's not, but if you're looking for a fun shooter that's $15-$20, it's good enough.
That time I saw you try and play Shattered Soldier was hilarious.dark10x said:[ASM]I'm looking for a f*cking Contra game, not a "fun shooter" that I shelled out $50 for.[/ASM]
Oh yeah, you gotta go s-rank man. There is no time for fun here. No sir. Gotta WORK when you play this game. Oh, you finished the game normally? That's bullshit, sir, you need to s-rank it in order to finish it.ArcadeStickMonk said:That time I saw you try and play Shattered Soldier was hilarious.
