You know what Soul Calibur 3 needs?!

POWER METAL!

Who cares about the game play. :P

Yeah, there's a reason why people still talk about and remember the Soul Edge intro - not the lame Soul Calibur, or Soul Calibur 2 intros; and that reason is because it was f'ing awesome! You can have the most gorgeously rendered 3D Ivy boobies in the world of 3D graphics and it will all be for naught without the awesome power of rocking out.

My picks for bands to provide a SC3 intro tune would be. . .

Galloglass (Official band MP3 sample)

or

Rhapsody (Sample of Unholy Warcry in RealcrappyMedia format)

Galloglass gets the nod, even though I <3 Rhapsody more, because of their gratuitous use of violins; which reminds me quite a bit of the awesomeness of the Soul Edge intro.

If you must have the Chixxors - then I guess Nightwish or some metal band w/ X chromosomes.

Either way - Namco, bring back the rock!

HERESY! BLASPHEMER!

Technically, the SC2 intro was much nicer looking - but so far as getting me incredibly pumped to play the game: MISERABLE FAILURE!

It lacked compelling music, which is what I suggest Namco put back.

Y'know it's sort of like DOA2 and Bomb Factory, and DOA3 and AeroBARRRRRRRFsmith.

That's like going from Amon Amarth to Yanni.

Damn it, I need to make time to play Contra: Shattered Soldier - that game had a rockin' soundtrack too.

NO Online with SC3, very disapointing.

Imagine the ping you need for this game! :lol

Sc2 intro was great and better than SC1. SE had the best for its time. SC3 we'll see.

Bah I've done this like twice before but I can only find one place where I detailed WHY EXACTLY SCII has one damn nice intro.

On mute it sure is. :)
I don't quite like the rock music on the 2nd part of the PS2 intro (I think that's what ur refering to) but I love the music on the arcade/1st part of the PS2 intro and the choreography is nice.

EDIT: And in response to this thread, I'm not sure if rock music matches the SC atmosphere like the Tekken 5 intro does... I always thought orchestra-type of music matches SC better. But did Soul Blade's intro uses rock music? I haven't seen that...

Tekken 5 loses points for having crappy whine-rock, and being Tekken.

Just look at Feng Wei's face man. WTF IS GOING ON THERE?! Namco has been slowly moving away from the Tekken Fugly since Tekken 4, but as much as I appreciate Feng Wei's design - jesus that's a Mortal Kombat / Killer Instinct / Tekken 1 looking character.

I noticed Namco always modelled their characters based on real-life personalities. Feng Wei looks a lot like Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa. Also see Raven (Wesley Snipes), Christie (J.Lo), Mitsurugi (Toshiro Mifune), and Asuka looks like a certain Japanese actress/idol or something (Chiaki Kuriyama?).

Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa

Uh - his face doesn't look like he just swallowed an industrial sized container of Sour Patch Kids and can't get it unstuck.

The problem is very simple - a lot of video game characters are designed by folks with no formal art training, as a result they're not as familiar with human bone structure and anatomy as they should be.

I like who Namco has doing the actual drawn art for Tekken / Soul Calibur - but jesus christ man.

In order to look like that a person needs to have some severe deformities.

Saying he looks like this:

Is a stretch.

I second the Rhapsody recommendation. Truly an awesome awesome band and yeah, using power metal in a game like Soul Calibur would be cool indeed.

That's a great idea, but comes after...

1. Extended test period in worldwide arcades
2. On-line play
3. Fuckin' Metal

I humbly suggest Savatage and Racer X.

rhapsody? come on - savage circus (the new band from ex-blind guardian drummer t.stauch) would be my choice. they sound like guardian at their best times with "imaginations from the other side" and "somewhere far beyond" - thats POWER METAL

btw.

and of course: manowar - thats the perfect fit for medival fighting games, because ist fucking TRUE METAL!

Haha. I've got a friend that would splooge if Ivy's theme was Demon's Whip.

This thread is useless without audio samples!

Put up, or shut up - butt nugget.

Oh and - a heavy metal curse on any who speak ill of Rhapsody. May your ears be filled with nothing but Godsmack and Evanescence for all eternity, and your mouth with dongs. Unless you like dongs - then it's razorblade filled pig intestines!
