Who actually writes lines that include "if my calculations are correct" (in every scene), without it being a joke? Not even a dairy has enough cheese to contend with this show!

It's not the concept, it's the production. I dunno, I saw one episode and I really like David Krumholtz so I was into it at first but after it was over I just felt embarassed for everyone involved.

Perhaps my recollection was tainted by the painfully awful end-of-the-show-joke that I can't recall.
