Read Anthony Burgess' "The Wanting Seed" -- it does a very good job of illustrating a future where people are encouraged to be homosexual to keep the population down.

I don't see how it is necessarily sad, or true -- there is no reason why true homosexuality should increase, save for a situation like the one in The Wanting Seed where people are encouraged to "switch teams".
