Your Abandoned PC Games

Have you ever had a game that was installed on your PC so long, that you played so much, that you thought you'd never not have installed?

I can only think of one in my case right now, and that is Starcraft. I played the hell out of that game in undergrad school, especially since the neighbors all played too, so the lameness of a crappy public game wasn't quite as prevalent. Now, a few years and a few formats of my hard drives later, I haven't had it installed for a long time, and I don't really feel like it either.

Right now, I'm thinking that BF1942 is in the position that Starcraft once held. Sure, the mods are great, and many are still works in progress, but eventually they will stop working on them. BF2 will possibly replace it for me, assuming I've got a better PC by then, and then it will occupy that spot of ubiquity for me.

Rogue Spear (+Urban Ops mission pack). I played the fuck out of the multiplayer in that game in early-mid college.

Joking aside, those were some damn fine games. KQ6 is actually the first real PC game I owned, back when my only PC was a crap 386 hand-me-down from my brother. The music seemed rather good for its time, and I actually found an mp3 of the entire soundtrack of the game....in one single, continuous file. Needless to say, letting the entire things play would take a couple hours. It's too bad the series apparently went downhill after that one.

Yeah, I never played 7, and 8 was pretty crummy.

Though it did contain the best "NONOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!" of all time.

Wasteland.. must have finished it at least half a dozen times, but havent reached supreme jerk yet. cant find my floppies now :(

Team Fortress (quake).. killing 56k'ers deep into the night in the dorms with my hallmate, and then going back home to LAN it up on the weekends

Starcraft of course

Counter-Strike.. me and my LAN friends were pretty decent individually, but we had no team tactics. still we played the shit outta it (and some of my friends still do..)

BF1942 gets very rare play, if any from me of late.

Probably the most underplayed though is KOTOR...I just can't get into the game as I hate the controls.

Holy crap this is an old thread. I came in to say KQ6, then realize that I ALREADY said that 3 months ago.

To expand my previous posts, when I installed that game into my 450MHz, Alexander would literally ZOOM across the screen while walking. It was hilariuos. I'd love to see it play on my 2GHz computer, but I don't know if it'll even play on XP. Though it has a soft spot in my heart. It literally is my first PC game, it came with my first computer back when the average PC costed $3000 but came with millions of programs.

Complete Ultima 7 resided YEARS in my PC.

Man, it took me FOREVER (and many start overs) to finally manage to beat Part I, Part II, and both of their (not insignificant) expansions.

I had backups of those saves stored away until a few years ago. I was so proud.

If I could get it working at 100% on my current rig, I wouldn't even hesitate to reinstall that CD.

And no, I refuse to play a dumbed down version of the game using the Exult Engine/Loader.

I'm not sure if this qualify, but Civ 3 would be the game. Civ3 and its various expansions have been in my computer since 2001, albiet I had to reinstall it several times after reformats.

I love that game.

Yeesh, where do I begin?...

Diablo 2
Enclave
Worms Triple Pack
KOTOR 1
Simpson's Hit & Run
Midnight Club 2
Balder's Gate 2 with Shadows of Arn
Undying
Unreal 2
Neverwinter Nights Gold
GTA3 and Vice City
I Was An Atomic Mutant
NOLF GOTY Ed
Half Life GOTY with Opposing Force
Judge Dredd Pinball (this one I'm actually upset about, because it just won't work right with XP, even in emu mode)
Call Of Duty
Q3 Team Arena

Y'know, with this and the pile of console games I haven't even opened yet, I got this great VG graveyard going here....

I honestly enjoyed KQ8 quite a bit...

It was quite a departure from the previous titles, but the atmosphere drew me in and I really enjoyed the adventure. I don't understand why people were so harsh on the game...
