Half of 2025 has gone by. Many great games have released and there are still many more to come. What title has been your favorite so far?

*Try to keep it to new games or remakes and not simply games you've gotten around to playing (although you can share that too).

Q1 Thread: https://www.neogaf.com/threads/your-goty-so-far-q1-2025.1682319/
Top 5 Titles were carried over from the last poll.

Leaving it at 10 options plus Other. There's too many titles to list them all and I wanted to list the bigger titles as those are most likely titles that the majority have played. If voting Other please state which game.

Q1 Results:
1) Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (26.2%)
2) Assassin's Creed: Shadows (12.9%)
3) Monster Hunter Wilds (12.5%)
4) Split Fiction (10.4%)
5) Avowed (10%)

My vote so far goes to Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon. I haven't finished it yet, but it's been a blast to play with different builds.

Death Stranding 2 is much too early to decide.

I also haven't played KCD2 or Clair Obscur yet.

KCD2 and it's not even close. A total improvement over the first game and one of the better written stories I've experienced in game.

For me, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. I don't see anything beating it.
Ghost might come close, the first one was my GOTY when it came out, beating TLoU2. We'll see.

I don't do GOTY anymore. My short list of stuff I really enjoyed so far:

Citizen Sleeper 2
Eternal Strands
Avowed
Clair Obscur
Doom: The Dark Ages
Rematch

I played more than that, and a lot of it was pretty solid. Mario Kart, South of Midnight. Still need to play Blue Prince and Blades of Fire. Looking forward to Donkey Kong soon. Ninja Gaiden and Shinobi are going to be awesome as well.

Death Stranding 2

Saying that, it's been a quiet year so far, 2026 looks like being the biggie for this gen.

So far:
GOTY: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition
Biggest Disappointment: Doom The Dark Ages
Biggest Surprise: Beyond Citadel

I'm not finished with it yet, but Expedition 33. It was MHWilds initially, but this game is another level entirely. Pure art.

Edit: Finished now and I can't underrate how great it is. I don't see how another game would top it for GOTY, except maybe Silksong. And even then, it's a maybe.

So far it's Doom, but they need to put Split Fiction on sale already so I can see if that will take the top spot.

The only unreleased 2025 games that look like they could change my vote would be DK Bananza and Metroid Prime 4 (if it makes it this year).

Probably Mario Kart World, but that's kind of by default. It's been a really lackluster year for me beyond MKW and Pirate Yakuza.

I didn't care for my GamePass time with Avowed or Doom The Dark Ages. I understand why people liked KCD and Expedition 33, but neither grabbed me. The Nightrein beta told me enough about the final product's pacing that it helped me avoid a purchase. Trying to get into Death Stranding again for the fifth or sixth time helped me skip DS2. I have zero interest in Assassin's Creed. Monster Hunter Wilds is my biggest disappointment of the year. I'd like to play Split Fiction eventually but my co-op buddy and I are waiting for a price drop.

Monster Hunter Wilds.

Out of that list, I've only played MH and AC Shadows.
The best gunlance in any MH game. Great game brought down by the devs need to shove the brain dead story in our face. Also, the Seikret should have been more like the palamutes, there should not have been any auto pilot function.

Damn, I've only played AC Shadows from that list and it's not GOTY material for me by a long shot.

Have DS2 to play, maybe it will be that one.

Expedition 33. I'm not expecting much competition. Let's see how the Sagat DLC turns out.

Probably going to be Death Stranding 2. Still early of course.
Havent tried 33 yet- not sure I will.

Shadows was a major surprise for me. Absolutely loved it- first one i like since maybe 2 or Black Flag.

I barely played a lot of these games. Only 3 of those. I really wanna try Split Fiction and Kingdom. 33 is an incredible production but I think I'd have more fun with some other games. I can see something like Ninja gaiden 4 being my goty if they nail it like the earlier games.

Clair Obscur. Just feels like that game has it wrapped up already. That's how good it is. Maybe another will come along and give it some competition, which would be awesome for us, but probably not.

My second choice would be Avowed

Currently half way-ish through EX33 but nothing will top KCD2 for me this year. Maybe things will change but I can't see it.

Both top tier games mind you.

KCD2 is a masterpiece of a game that completely blew me away, I don't foresee anything topping it for me.

I'm sure I'll get a lot of hate for this, but I couldn't even finish Expedition 33. Whatever it is about that game that has captivated literally everyone else missed the mark for me. I'm happy to see a new IP getting so much positive recognition though.

There's a few like you and me. Got to the start of Act 2 but just had no desire to keep going, game was doing nothing for me.

Agree that it's cool seeing a new studio experiencing such success, wonder how their next game will be.

I think The Alters is really good.

EXP 33 is amazing.

Doom was fun, but not GOTY material.

Split fiction deserves recognition.

Avowed I thought was pretty weak.

Doom Dark Ages was great but had a real lull in the middle that I can't say it's a GOTY.

Fantasy Life was decent. The post-game grinding for grinding sake seems pointless. If you get more than 30 hours out of that game then I envy your ability to be entertained. The story though is fun and the mechanics are used well enough but it starts to drag at the 20 hour mark.

Mario Kart World no chance.

I hated that Expedition 33 game. The parrying of overly animated enemies didn't do it for me, and then reading the spoilers of the story it feels like the ending of St. Elsewhere with the kid looking into a snow globe.

At this point I guess Dark Ages? I believe Donkey Kong, Metroid Prime 4, and Mafia will clear that bar easily. We'll see.

Currently enjoying Death Stranding 2, and E33 was awesome too, but honestly KCD2 blows everything out of the water. One of the finest games ever made, let alone GOTY this year imo.

So far definitely it's Expedition 33.

But also have Donkey Kong Bananza and Silent Hill f to look forward to.

Monster Train 2 is so addictive and keeps pulling me back in. I would give it GOTY from the ones I've played even if KCD2 and Expedition 33 are great as well and probably greater accomplishments. Stellar Blade PC is good as well. Pretty strong year so far.
