Your opinion of Animatrix.

Never saw it, but I watched Second Renaissance just now based on the comments here. Yeah, that was striking, effective, and useful in explicating the lore that was mostly only alluded to in the movies.

Did you find it scary, in a sense that's basically what's coming in reality?
In a way...I think there are going to be arguments on the rights & sentience of AI-powered humanoid robots, with sympathizers/detractors, and probably high-profile cases of them "malfunctioning" and causing harm.

Beyond that (the robots being put on trial, the riots, blotting out the sun with nanites, the human-machine war, using humans as power banks and creating a simulated reality to keep us complacent) is too far down the road to see as probable at this point. It's one of many possible futures.

Also, it's my understanding that the humanoid robots in Second Renaissance were imbued with the minds of man (could be wrong). While I think tech companies are eager to upload map human minds and upload consciousnesses, I wonder if the fate of that type of humanoid robot would be to make them mindless drone workers. If there's any hope for humanity, there'd be lower-level worker bots that are programmed for tasks versus higher-level bots for rich people who want to duplicate themselves.
