YouTube ads will become unskippable

I hate Big Tech. Every fucking product Big Tech creates is start off by offering a free or super cheap version with full features, and then once it gets popular, instead of creating a better version that is the pay version, they make the version you already have worse by making it unusable unless you start paying or get rid of the free version altogether.

And every several years they will keep adding tiers and keep making the paid versions more insufferable. Once you start paying they hope/know that over time if they keep increasing the price by 2 bucks a month you won't think of it of enough as an increase to care, but eventually you realize that you're now paying $10/month more than you did 3 years prior.

Fuck Big Tech and their bullshit. Eventually there has to be diminishing returns.

Fortunately, Brave+Ublock Origin still works flawlessly here.
I use Brave without Ublock and it still works flawlessly.

SmartTube for Android TV. 🙌

This also works if you want the in-video intro, outro, sponsorship, etc.. blocked like SmartTube does.

YouTube premium is raising their prices.

YouTube: makes ads even shittier
Internet: lol just use premium it's so good
YouTube: raises premium price.

Youtube creates the problem, just so they can then sell the solution.
What a piece of shit of a company.

Jokes on YouTube, because I've never been served ads on Edge + an ad blocker. I've never even seen a popup or video slowdown.

Brave is great for when I'm on my laptop but I prefer to watch YouTube on my couch and larger screen at the end of the day, which I do with my PS5 as it's pretty easy to navigate throug. Ads have pretty much reduced my couch Youtube to just videos that I'm anticipating/interested in and I no longer really browse Youtube because the ads are just too much to bare. The hide ad trick used to work like magic and I was able to stop the ad within a second or 2 but that no longer works on PS5.

I did recently discover, backing out once the ad starts, and then opening the video again, backing out if ad, then back in, works now, It usually takes at least 5 tries but the video will eventually start and only takes about 5 seconds to do. The ad in the middle will eventually play but you can do the back out/in trick again and it will bypass the ad. It may start the video at the beginning again but you can skip to where you were and ads will not play until the next one. If that makes sense.

I'm looking for a comparable solution to couch surfing Youtube as PS5 is preferred. Connecting my laptop to my TV is not a good option. Honestly, the dualsense controller is perfect. I have Unifi hardware which apparently supports network adblocking but I think there are adverse affects from that.

Reminds me of that Black Mirror episode where
her brain chip that keeps her alive has too many ads, the standard subscription doesn't have any value anymore and they are forced to go full premium, the most expensive one.

After 9 hours at work, 1 in the bus, ending up late at home, tired, and you spending time watching more ads on Youtube instead of actually viewing something you intend to see with the time you have left on that day? Duck that. I'm already enjoying Freetube on my PC.

I wonder how long before they put the whole Youtube behind a wall like Netflix. I might have been okay with paying for Premium if the Lite version was still available. Until then I'll continue with Brave on my Android.

The original service was released "without ads"...it also released without content creator compensation and the ability to stream content to nearly any capable device on the planet.

It is rather juvenile to think the business owner for this product shouldn't be able to monetize it or to demonize the folks that pay for the service.

Currently youtube premium is $135.18 USD CHEAPER than my old cable subscription was.

This is very true. Do people really think they're going to run the whole company for free just as a service to humanity? How are they going to pay everyone's wages?

If you have WebOS (LG television) you can put your TV in dev mode and install a YT version that doesn't has ads and also has options to skip in-video promotions. Been using that for a while now.
Decent option, will have to try! Typing in the search could be difficult although possibly voice typing could work. Typing on the PS5 is surprisingly intuitive.

Yes, the billions they make on ad revenue each quarter are obviosuly not enough, they must make ads longer and more intrusive. I don't think people are against ads, it's what it's turned into. There are too many ads. You see ads in the video on top of youtube ads. You end up watching more ads than content.

I don't mind the concept of YouTube Premium at all. I watch videos and I'd like the people who make them to get paid. The act of joining every individual's membership/Patreon/OnlyDongs accounts just isn't tenable, so having a platform based transaction system is a low friction setup.

True, it's also a centralized one, and I'd love to see an Internet less based on centralization who decide just how I can interact with a video maker (and what they're allowed to do and say). But for now there isn't any solution for that which offers a low friction path.

I don't like this price hike, maybe if every Youtuber I watched started saying how they're getting bigger payouts so that they can do fewer sponsored segments (SponsorBlock helps) then I'd be happier, but I'm doubting that is going to happen. But combined videos and Youtube music is basically most of my day as I have something playing in the background. So I'm getting my pennies worth right now.

If they want to make Youtube a paid service, they can do that if they want. But they know paying customers and serving them a honest service isn't where the money is.

Because they know most of their revenue is generated by normies who can't be bothered about their ad infested, bloated phones and computers. People who grew up in the constant background noise of ads and endless notifications and other annoyances. If people actually respected their own time and quality of servives they consume, Google and every mainstream and social media companies would't be the giants they are now.

Once again I say hail to the alternatives and motherfuck YouTube.
YouTube is shit, but I don't see ads. I stopped seeing them and instead a short loading display and the video starts in about 2-5 seconds. I am more and more, finding myself needing less; bullshit that just exists to occupy my time. Time is the most important "currency" we have. I just wished I had realized it in the way I do, now...sooner.

So far I have found two solutions on both Chrome and my phone.

For Chrome I use Adguard Adblocker.

For my phone I use Brave Browser.

Hopefully these both continue to block ads and don't get removed by Google.

still quite happy with my youtube premium and don't plan to cancel it. i expect we'll get a price hike too but i use youtube so much it's totally worth it. also it's my music streaming service too. currently same price as Spotify. if it were to go up to £15/month then i'm still basically only paying the price i would for Spotify and £2 for no ads.

Using an adblock on PC, but the TV ones are fucking unbearable. 8min video, 1 min add before. 20min video and there's only a small section you want to watch? Fast forward, immediate 60sec ad after just watching the pre-video ad. Absolutely infuriating.

I just HAD to "hack" my LG C2 'cause of it, it was THAT bad...

...and it still is when I "dare" to watch a YT video on my other TV or my PS5, it's literally impossible to do so

thats cool on my imac but im fucked on ipad air, android phone and my samsung qled tv app.

i got a habit of restarting videos until it starts without ad already on my tv lol.

Android phone ?

I've been using Vanced and now Revanced for 8 years straight now with no problems whatsoever.
There's an Add-on that you have to download first that's spoofs your Google Id/account (microG/GmS Core)

Imagine watching ads on YouTube no matter what platform you use.

Revanced for Android (should work on android tv too)
Tube PIP for iOS it's in the App Store (Or use app from third party store if in EU region)
Tizenbrew & Tizentube for Samsung smart TV's
One of the thousands of blockers on desktop.

Use the Tv Bro Web browser, you can skip the ads normally pretty quickly or you can use the inbuilt ad blocker which doesn't work properly but when you press it once from the pop up menu the ad goes away, the browser is really good too.

Looks like the price is going up a bit for premium users.
Before renewing my Premium I tried it for one day without.

What a truly unpleasant horrible experience.

Of course ads galore.
Constant interruptions with shitty survey requests.

I am literally forced back into Premium.

If you watch mainly on PC, just use Brave browser. Removes all YouTube ads out of the box with no add-ons. Hulu and other sites like Tubi, too. Also most internet radio ads.

I hate the idea of paying YouTube for making itself near unusable unless you pay up.

Unfortunately I don't have a PC.

I'm on my phone or XSX PS5.
