YouTube ads will become unskippable

YouTube viewers watching on TVs may soon have to sit through even longer ads, with Google rolling out new 30-second unskippable spots on its television app.

The change means some ads that previously allowed users to skip after a few seconds will instead run the full half-minute with no option to bypass them except for subscribing to YouTube Premium.

According to Google, the update is aimed specifically at YouTube's TV experience, where viewing habits more closely resemble traditional television. Google says the longer ad format is designed to help advertisers reach audiences who are watching content in a more relaxed, living-room setting.

thank God for YouTube premium best $139 a year ever.

I watch enough YouTube that it makes sense for me to pay. Lots of instructional video consumption convinced me to subscribe.

Me too, lots to learn to the point I actually can fix problems from LED backlight repair to cooking great meals. Watching restoration videos can be quite therapeutic to me as I'm addicted to watching amazing repairs.

I would rather spent time watching videos such as this than paying Netflix (which I already stop long ago).

sorry to say but some of those are fake

YouTube doesn't even create the content they host. They demonetize channels for literally no reason. They already run excessive ads. YouTube and Google need to be humbled. It's happened before to bigger and better companies, and it will happen to them.

That's all you'll ever need, and if you're on desktop, Brave, or just any competent ad block.

Family has almost stopped watching YouTube on a TV, there are quite a lot apps in France with kids programming, ad free. Fuck Google.

These ads actually make me resent whatever the product is that is being advertised.
Especially after seeing the same ad for the 30th time.
Yeah, and anyway, who the heck buys stuff based on ads anyway. I don't remember any TV ad influencing my buying choices in decades. Random pop-ups or forced ads on the internet I barely pay any attention to, especially since everyone started using cheesy "inspirational" music in their ads.

YouTube Music as a music streaming app is terrible.
As an app, for sure. But content is another level - it's not fair to compare, but hey, I did this change way back in the day and never left. Hearing Megaman muusic on the gym is amazing

I already limited my time with youtube, ublock works well but the fuckers still manage to downgrade the performance on Firefox.

I'll watch an embedded video here and there, but not a lot.

It's only ever going to get worse. Youtube needs to continually make more and more money, and they can't do that by growing their base since it reached saturation. If you thought unskipable adds every 7-8 minutes were bad, wait for the update where you need to keep your front camera on while you watch the video, logging every eye movement and emotion.

Guess I've been in some kind of trial/test program for this? I've had unskippable 30+ second ads for like half a year at this point. It's an unskippable full 30 second one, followed by another 30 seconds of ads it makes you watch 5 or 10 seconds of then unlocks the skip button. So in total it forces you to watch at least 45 seconds of ads.

I was using a combo of Adguard and Sponsorblock, but past bunch of days ads started popping up before the video starts. I installed Ublock Origin Lite and so far working well.

I'm still able to skip ads, but I've noticed on Chrome only(so far) I have ublock origin lite installed and before every video it takes like 10 seconds for the video to load and I get that "Experiencing interruptions?" message at the bottom. I'm 99% sure it's related to ublock origin skipping the ads.

I'm using Brave and Ublock Origin 1.7.1b and it works flawlessly.
Try changing browser.

I have this issue on Firefox + uBlock for many months now. I use a filter to remove the interruptions message because it would pop all the time.

How did you update to 1.7.1b? I'm on 1.7.0 and Firefox says there are no updates for my addons.
