Per character.
Added to my wishlist. I've promised myself that I won't buy this until I've finished Oath. I can do this! (._.)
Go the Max Payne thread, they're the ones who decided to start pre-loads at 9 AM PDT.It tells me Steam is too busy!
Stop all the downloading.
I don't know what's going on, but my settings in the config utility are somehow not making it to the game. Neither resolution nor control settings. But if I go back into the config utility, everything's still set as it should be.
Boo, you disappoint me.
Just bought and downloading now!
I disappoint myself. I haven't even played Oath yet. I must prove myself worthy before I indulge in more Ys! (._.)
You should be ashamed. At least buy this now to pay for some of your sins.
I'm glad install sizes are small, it says only 30 mins left to download. Makes me happy.
If it goes on sale, I won't have the will to resist. I think that it's $20 is the only thing deterring me right now, but...wait, no! This is true self-restraint! I have learned! I am strong! (._.)
So sometime in the year 3000 when I have finished my backlog, should I play Oath first or just play this?
You're dead to me.
Edit: Have you played Ys before or would be your first time?
First Ys game, yeah. Also have Trails in the Sky to play on Vita. Have to see what this XSEED thing is all about.
How long does a playthrough with one character take, approximately? Might just plow through this sonbitch in one sitting tonight. Provided enough alcohol, of course.
Ys 1 is beatable in that timeframe even for a first-timer!
Man, true widescreen is truly amazing. That was reason enough to buy this version.
There's no way to akip the intros, is there? I accidentaly exited the game after a couple of minutes into the videos and have to sit throgh them again now.
Hm... I want to pick this up now, but I am only an hour or two away from finishing Oath. Time to do that first.
Also, is it 5-6 hours total (which is about where I'll end up when Oath is said and done) or is it 5-6 hours per character?
Actually, I'd say it does matter in this case. This entire game is like a celebration of Ys 1, its story is all about Ys 1, and will be a lot more interesting to someone who'se played through that one. They aren't really connected, so it wouldn't matter which order you play them in.
Only games in the series where order really matters is 1 and 2.
I've been playing through Ys book I & II completely virgin, knowing nothing of the game on Wii virtual console ever since it first dropped on that service.
And in my opinion Darm Tower is a complete and utter show-stopping buzz-kill; all those dead ends and teleports and I've gone up like 16 or 17 levels, got completely stuck and lost. Which is sad, because the Ys book I and II was a game I lusted after as a child and was very stoked to play.

Maybe it's obtuse in comparison to a modern RPG where you'd have a minimap with a quest icon and an arrow pointing your way, but I think everything you need to do is told to you in-game by one of the three important NPCs.Also, I don't know which version of Ys I & II you're playing, but if it's the PSP version on UMD, check the back of the instruction manual. Ys I can be pretty obtuse, so I wrote up a full walkthrough for it, anticipating these sorts of reactions.
Don't let Ys I get you down -- Ys II will live up to your expectations, and then some! It's one of my personal favorite games in the series, and is absolutely *amazing* when you consider it was originally made in 1989. It's an improvement over Ys I in absolutely every regard.

(Though personally, I quite like Darm Tower! But I can totally see why others wouldn't. And consequently, despite Ys Origin taking place in the same tower, the level designs and gameplay couldn't be more different between the two, so don't let Darm Tower discourage you from playing Ys Origin!)

Oh God I want this but still need to buy and play Oath. UGH.
I would say so, the PSP version is really, really good.Ah, it was the Wii emulation of the Turbo CD version. I own the PSP version, should I just drop this one and just play the PSP version?
The biggest problem is when you have to go quite a ways back down the tower, which is unintuitive.Maybe it's obtuse in comparison to a modern RPG where you'd have a minimap with a quest icon and an arrow pointing your way, but I think everything you need to do is told to you in-game by one of the three important NPCs.
The walkthrough was a nice touch, and it is appreciated, but it's not like the game is indecipherable.
