If you're going to get both, I would suggest Oath first, then. I think of the two it's a little bit a better "First Ys Game" over Origin. Plus it's a tad cheaper. Thanks wyrdwad, now I want both of them.

So, what's up with the resolution for this game?
Even though it's set to run at 1920*1080 on the configuration screen, the Steam overlay and my screenshots are 800*600?
The configuration is iffy and doesn't work sometimes for whatever reason.
You have to hit "OK" button on the config screen and then let Steam Cloud do its sync thing before starting the game proper. So, what's up with the resolution for this game?

It may be using a different non-Cloud save folder than the Groupon version did. (Note that even with the Cloud enabled it falls back on that folder.) On XP the saves are in %AppData%/FALCOM/yso_win/ and it's probably somewhere in My Documents or AppData/Roaming on Vista and 7. I... forget the exact path there to be honest.
I copied the entire Groupon save folder (named "yso_win) over to Users\<username>\Saved Games\FALCOM\ folder (which is also where I found an empty folder for Felghana named "ysf_win"), and the Steam version read the saves just fine.
That worked perfectly. My eyes feel way better now. And yes, that play button is detrimental if it prevents the settings from taking. You have to hit "OK" button on the config screen and then let Steam Cloud do its sync thing before starting the game proper.
I think they're going to remove the "PLAY" button from the config screen because of this.
Is this opening text supposed to be voiced in French?
Yes. It was "Flench" in the original Japanese version but was redubbed in more accurate French for the English version.
This has probably been asked already, but about how long is this game? I played Ys Seven in March and just finished Ys Oath this morning, and one of the things I loved about both games is that they aren't overly long and don't waste your time.
Uhh I admit I feel like a complete idiot, but I just started the game and was given the first two items. This statue looks like a save point, (I'm assuming it is) but I cannot find the save button for the life of me. Could someone tell me how to access the save menu so I don't have to rewatch the cut scenes because I want to adjust the resolution some more.
Oh, an additional question... Is there a quick way to hook up a 360 or a PS3 controller so I can use those buttons instead of a keyboard?

I just talked to the statue for a save option.
I'm using a wireless 360 controller with the default gamepad configuration
Yeah this is what I want! Is a quick way to set this up through Windows 7? Or somewhere you know that could start me off in the right direction? I haven't bothered to research this at all because I've literally had no computer worthy of running anything since early 2002 and finally bought this baby for Diablo 3 and Apparently YS steam releases =D
I also have no clue where the adapter for the controller is either, and I assume that will probably not be a good thing for trying to get it installed.
Also @ Sara and Wyrd... thanks for the quick response on the Save thing, I dunno what happened. Perhaps I just wasn't close enough but I definitely went across the keyboard near the statue and nothing happened. Bad operator error apparently.
You heard it here first, guys. Trails in the Sky coming to Steam.
...if you buy this game.
DO IT.
7) Origin is definitely tougher than Oath on the normal difficulty.
I hate you people so much right now. I'm sitting at work being gnawed on by small children while you guys play Ys: Origin.
What do you do? Micheal Jackson impersonator?

I really wish they'd gone with a different font than MS Gothic. Nothing screams "low budget translation of a Japanese game" like that font.
Close. English teaching in Japan. They're more alike than you think.
So, question:the first time you fight Kishgal on Yunica's route, is it meant to be an unwinnable boss fight? Obviously it doesn't let you retry, but it seems like he could be beatable with flawless play?
That's the truth, and I teach at the high school level.

You can win, but it doesn't really matter, honestly.
I peronsally prefer the adventure and exploration elements like going back to town and going from place to place on the map. Origin was definitely fun, but I much prefer Felghana. Especially its music.
Oh, so you don't get anything special for beating him? If that's true, I'll just let him pound me and come back for the achievement later
