Im only vaguely familiar with this series. So how do they fight when in action scenes, and how can we expect that to be portrayed in the film?

Team will have a different backstory in the film [Starlord assembling the team from the group of prisoners I guess], but the fighting stules should be the unchanged. Starlord with his gun, Racoon with ranged weapons [lazers] and explosives, Drax and Gamora meele specialists.

They're like the Avengers of space, the roster is a total mismatch of powers and personalities that have no business being together. Of the characters that look to be front and center in this film:

Star-Lord is the leader and probably the least powerful of the bunch, he's half human and functionally no different than the rest of us. He uses guns and cunning to get by.

Drax was created for the sole purpose of killing Thanos and has super strength, durability, martial training, and is smarter than he looks.

Gamora is the adopted daughter of Thanos, she has super strength and regeneration and a big sword.

Rocket Raccoon is genetically engineered and a tactical genius. He was the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy for a couple issues. He has a fetish for big guns and explosives.

Groot is a plant based life form who can grow to massive sizes and regrow himself from cuttings. He's basically the tank, so the latter ability is often useful.

Not sure if I'm following your question right, but here's my stab at it.

Star-Lord - Mostly wields pistols.
Rocket Raccoon - Is always carrying a BFG.
Drax - Brawler, uses knives, but also carries standard guns. Reputation as the deadliest man in the galaxy.
(He killed Thanos once.)
Gamora - Brawler, uses a sword, but also carries standard guns.
Groot - Mostly a brute force brawler, but I'm pretty sure he's carried a gun from time to time.
Cosmo - Psychic powers.

There are some other members of GotG, but I don't know that any of them have been hinted at or confirmed for the movie.

EDIT: And I should probably clarify, Cosmo isn't technically a member of GotG, but he has accompanied them on occasion. We'll have to see what they do with Cosmo in the movie.

They've got to have Mantis, she's probably just not in the group concept art because she doesn't usually take an active combat role. I wish they'd fit Quasar in but that might be too much to ask.

Quasar's probably just too far of a stretch, what with cosmic powers and all.

Yeah, I'd probably expect Mantis as well, but I could see them going with a smaller roster and omitting her.

Ahh thanks guys. Marvel will need a serious tough baddie to challenge these guys, they seem overpowered.

Remember this guy from the end of The Avengers?

That's Thanos. There's your man. Guardians of the Galaxy is meant to introduce him properly to audiences before he goes to earth for The Avengers 2.

Awesome.

Edit. Who do you think Thanos will send after them in the film? They could go nuts when it comes to Marvels alien line up.

Watch them build up GotG as the ultimate universe badasses in the GotG movie, then he shows up at the very end and curbstomps them to get us prepped for Avengers 2.

What's that got to do with anything? How does that benefit Saldana? Being in Trek didn't exactly open many doors for her. You realise that the only cast member of a Marvel produced film with any 'back end' deal or creative control is Robert Downey Jnr.

I'm sure being in a low paid ensemble picture with a seven picture deal attached to it is exactly what she's looking for. After that action movie that Luc Besson made bombed everyone knew she couldn't carry a film herself so she's back to doing this.

AHAHA WTF? This explains why she is starring in the Nina Simone bio pic?

And how many Actors or Actresses can still sell a movie by themselves?

Also Trek opened doors... not her role in AVATAR?

Actually it would make sense that the Guardians would lose in their movie, or at least be unable to stop Thanos. Maybe this will be more Episode V than Episode IV of Star Wars.

Is Rocket Raccoon supposed to have a British accent? I love his voice in Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3.

If he didn't have it "originally", he's definitely supposed to have it by now.

According to Chris Baker (guy at Marvel who oversaw MVC3s production and served as liaison between Capcom and Marvel), it was Alan Fine's idea to give Rocket the cockney accent and he's one of the big guys involved with the MCU.

First off Saldana can't open a movie herself. That's why she's stuck in ensemble pieces like Trek and GOTG.

I'm not saying that she isn't getting work but it's not like she's headlining big studio movies is it? IIRC this Nina Simone biopic doesn't even have a US distributor locked in so it yet may go VOD. And even if it did/does she won't be getting big money for it. Just like her role in GOTG.

How many people actually know she was in Avatar let alone starring in it? It certainly would have put her on many industry people's 'radar' but it certainly doesn't make her a name able to open a movie on her own.

Balls to the walls

Honestly these guys are gnats compared who they go up against. And this is one of the weaker incarnations of the team.

Universal Church of Truth
Magnus
Cancerverse
The Annihilation Wave
The Phalanx

These guys win, laws of realty get changed.
